Column size can be found out easily by thumb rule. First calculate total load. Total load is no. of floors x tributary areax load/m^2 per floor say 1.5t/m^2.
If no. of floors is 4 and tributary area is 5x5m=25m^2 then total load is 4x25m^2x1.5t/m^2=150tt. Multiply 10 to get area required for column say 150x10=1500cm^2. If column width is say 30cm then depth required=1500/30=50cm. You can adopt 30x 45cm or 30x50cm column.

Madam, For G+1 we have planned to use 9" * 9" columns with 12MM Tata Tiscon 550SD. Is this safe or will this create problem in future. We don't have any plan to extend this building further. Please respond. thank you.
