saw a guy on Craigslist trying to sell one of these Chinese dirtbikes just like this one. only thing is he tried saying it was a 2001 Honda crf250f. it was 3500$ so I went to go check it out, soon as I get there, first thing I noticed was it had plastic grips and a plastic throttle, a odd looking kickstarter for a crf, and a small seat, like on the bike in this video. I told him that it was a piece of shit and not worth anywhere near $3500.

ok, i have a Chinese dirt bike, i have been riding it regularly for over a year now, the bike works absolutely fine, the only thing that i had to replace so far was the clutch lever. i know that they are not the best of quality but if you look after it will maintain, the carburettor is the only thing that fails from time to time but after it is cleaned its working fine.

These bikes are meant to teach kids the fundamentals of riding so your not buying a bike for 3800 to 5900 (depending on producer)
now that you know how to ride save up and buy you an actual dirtbike to go have some fun on...they intentionally make the stand tall so you learn to be aware of gravity.....they make them not have torque so you dont go out and try to go full blown motocross,as an untrained rider ! This bike has done its job WELL taught you to be aware of your equipment, keep an eye on all your bolts...do a quality/safety check before each ride
take it as a learning experience and the next bike respect it make mental notes of what went wrong with this bike and check for those issue and how to prevent it...best of luck and ride safe!!!

Some parts for japanese bikes are made in china but for the most part it's made in japan.
One example is aftermarket parts. If it isn't OEM, you can always count on that its made in china.
I mean plastic bushings for the swingarm....What the hell? I knew chinese bikes were shit in the first place, but even that chocked me.

  • @roythearcher

The first thing you should understand about this particular bike, it is clearly not designed to be ridden off road, it's just styled to look like it should, I mean, how many Chinese off-roaders do you know??
This is designed to be ridden on the road and it has the smaller rear sprocket rather than the 52+ tooth item more commonly found on dirt bikes. The lack of frame reinforcement also says this was never meant for serious dirt riding.
This video is also a bit misleading as not all Chinese built bikes are the piles of kak this one clearly is and those made under licence, whilst not quite up to Japanese standards, are perfectly acceptable for those on a budget if you don't mind inferior build quality and cheap alloy engine castings which are prone to brittleness and can crack when the machine is dropped, (Just don't drop it! Simple!)
If you want to ride off road, then buy a bike that's designed for it and if you are on a budget, you're far better off going for a second hand Japanese or KTM or
Whatever, or at least something with a bit of pedigree behind it , not thrown together with a lawn mower engine and frame members made of noodles in a chicken shed by a bunch of unskilled peasants just to make a cheap knock-off!
As always, You only get what you pay for and beware of anything that seems too good to be true. If the price is cheap as chips, you can bet the materials, build quality, components and welding is too...

Only probelem ive had with mine is the cluch lever broke when i hit a tree, and the clip at the back panel which you said, came off, but a quick weld and it was fine. Clearly looking at your bike you bought from a competetor or a older version. I took mine down to black duck, nothing wrong happened so im pretty happy with mine. If your bike sounds like it is botteming out, clean the carberetor and replace the air filter. COST about $50 AU.

Been living and working in China for 2 yrs and been riding one of these for those 2 years. Only spent about RMB500 on getting things fixed (mainly due to abuse from me) over the 2 years. Definately not like my RMX250 at home but..... well worth the money. You need to compare them to XR250 etc (not a full motocross bike). In my opinion much better than an 5-10 yr old XR250 for the same price. I am more than happy with mine and would buy another one with no hesitation.

For anyone watching this video, with these bikes you get what you pay for. But if you go over the bike and change the oil that comes with it, change the bolts with a higher standard and use lock-tight, spray it down with a protection spray for rust and keep it clean. it will run much longer. Also, change all the seals and the chain and tires,,they tend to crack after a few weeks.

If you absolutely have to have one of these, you better remove all of the bolts, apply thread locker, and torque them down good. Even better, replace all of the motor mount bolts with grade 8 steel bolts from a hardware store. These bikes also come with recycled oil when shipped, drain the oil/gear oil and replace with gear oil. It is also a good idea to replace clutch/brake levers with name brand ones. One fall and the shit metal will break. You can make one of these work, but I wouldn't recommend getting on an mx track.

I have an Apollo 250 RX and love it..it seems built a little better than this, but still not up to a brand name quality (but neither was the price 1700 NEW 2009)..the RX is simple to work on and has been more durable than expected...I would buy another one, mine seems to have been a good one. (No issues with loose hardware, no battery or calipers falling off. No loose are damaged bushings.) Parts are plenty available for the RX and cheap.
Some of the points, you mentioned, I have had the same experience with the RX (must be common with Chinese bikes)..tires wear a little quicker than name brand..(replaceable w/NB)..kickstand a hair too long (sawzall, mig welder, and 10 minutes) ...gas cap not sealing well until really tight and shops will not touch them (ALMOST simple enough to wonder why you would need a shop)...other than that, I would recommend an Apollo RX all day long for common trail riding, for motocross or other racing ..of course not.

I did proper maintenance on. Clean the air filter after every ride, check the valves, change oil every 4hrs of ride time, adjust the chain, etc... On that bike I PUT OVER 100hrs OF RIDE TIME, bike still ran great. I ended up selling it for $500 and i payed $400 with a dirty carb. hey make great trail bikes NOT JUMPERS!

I bought a Chinese bike from wall-mart and omfg it had problems. Maybe the buyers beware no returns allowed papers should have given me an idea. For starters the brake cable needed to be cut down to length because it was a sharp piece of metal wire that would rub up against your legs. I'd be pleased if this was the only problem. On-top of that the front brake was very weak so essentially all your stopping power was confined to the back breaks which wasn't enough to do a real stop if you needed it. The handle bars weren't secured to the handle bar holder AND the axel for the handlebars was loose. So after 2 weeks of riding I had almost no breaks or steering. After I repaired those items the gears ended up getting ground down which eventually lead to me snapping the derailed which those two pieces make up the core of the bike. The problem with china is they are taking advantage of Americas presumption that if it is carried in an American store such as wall-mart or amazon there will be guarantees about quality. They will literally make everything as cheap as possible and probably forgo proper product testing.

This is why if you only have $2000 to spend, you buy a QUALITY Japanese or European used bike. For $2000, you can get a kickass mid 2000s Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, or KTM bike that will run for another 10-20 years and all you'll have to do is change the oil, brake pads, tires, and bearings.

We bought our son a version of this bike a couple of months ago for $1,200...an RPS 150cc Viper. We know it won't last but the last thing we wanted to do was buy a $2,000 used Suzuki/Yamaha/Kawasaki and he stops riding it after a year or 2.
Now, he's done some trail riding and actually ran through an advanced course by mistake about 2 weeks ago and the bike held up well. To get a new quality dirt bike would cost at least $2,500 and I've seen them go up to $5,000 for a race bike, so $1,200 for a bike that he learns on is good enough for me. If we can get a solid 2 years out of this bike, I will consider this a bargain. Keep in mind my son is 13 and he's grown 5 inches in the last year. If he works his way to a 250 by the time he's 14 or 15, then I will get him a quality dirt bike.
I spent almost a year looking for a used dirt bike in 150 range, and in Alabama there are none for sale. Very rare and we got put on every list we could find. People here buy them and never sell them. We did find one bike once that the guy was selling for $2,500, but it was in poor condition and it was a Yamaha. No way am I going to spend that money only to have to sink hundreds in getting it work.

Just a friendly bit of advice when you buy something cheap you have to sacrifice something. For example a good grade of aluminium lest say is $5 a lb. When you need to make the same thing but make it cheap would you make it out of expensive stuff or would you buy the low grade $2 a lb stuff. Your young we were all there too, lesson learned. Why in gods name would you take a woods bike to a motocross track? The suspension is not set up for that. Its a trail bike the kickstand is a dead give away for that. Like other people are saying though just save your pennies and do your research, buy it used and rebuild it. no prob. Good luck!

On a road bike the front brake gives you the most stopping power. Off road it causes the front tire to wash out.
All chains rust when not lubed and put away wet.
With your lack of knowledge on off road bikes (dirt bikes) you would have f'd up a Honda!

I actually feel bad for them. all they see is " wow ,look dad, I can get a brand new bike for $2000,what a deal." dad won't let him buy a used Japanese bike because dad is mechanically incompetent. we all know used dirt bikes, specially older ones need work..don't take long for repairs of used bikes to exceed the value of the bike. knew a fella who bought a Chinese bike. said he rode it so hard he actually broke the shock.I laughed at him said if that was a Japanese or Austrian bike he'd be telling that story from the hospital. first of all smaller sprocket means faster bike because people like faster bikes, scratched plastics is suppose to happen if it didnt then there is something wrong, before you take out the bike you are suppose to check eveything to make sure it is tight, the kickstand isnt to big because it goes into the ground a little so it leans, instead of having it on your kitchen floor, chain rusted casue you never oiled it, piston rings fried cause you didt let it break in, and get your parts form ebay.

I was searching through the internet and found a guide on ebay putting down chinese made atvs, dirtbikes, etc. I sell these machines with LITTLE or no problems whatso ever. Just because it doesn't have honda, suzuki, yamaha or whatever labeled all over it doesn't make it junk. And to be honest most of these machines are based on these manufacturers designs and made in the same factories! You will be seeing more and more of these machines in the years to come. Trust me with everything getting so expensive, people need a way to have fun without having to pay ALOT of money.
ALL CHINESE BIKES are the SAME! Except for a select few that actual do some upgrades before shipping. Some names you will see are Roketa, Sunl, Toptom, TaoTao, Kazuma, Redcat/Tank, there are alot but when it comes right down to it, they are the same with different stickers. Parts are the same across the board.
When purchasing these machines you need to look over it, make sure things are tight. Because most of these are purchased online, or via mail order they will need some assembly from the buyer. One word when doing this.. LOCTITE! If you receive missing parts that's not the manufacturers fault (Roketa, Lifan) it's the poor professionalism of the distributor you got it from. My company checks EVERYTHING before our customers get them making sure everything is in order. Unfortunetly my distributors only give me a 30 day warranty, i try to help by giving my customers discounted parts prices and i am always willing to hunt for parts whether you get the machine from me or not.
I keep hearing about parts... "i can't find parts!!" I go directly to the distributors and they have a FULL line of replacement parts! If they don't have it I keep looking and somoene does! it does require alittle work because you can't goto the nearest dealer to get the part you need. But at the same time... most of these have engines and parts from HONDA machines! so alot of honda parts will fit.. The big name dealers of course won't work on your chinese made machine,, you didn't get it from them!! I work with probably 8-9 distributors and several more companies for parts. If anyone out there needs parts for these machines Please feel free to email me and i will get the part on ebay to sell!!
Learning to ride is great, but you really need to learn to fix the things you ride. and learn to maintain them properly. Take a look at the prices they are getting for repair and service at the shops.. OUTRAGEOUS prices because people are getting more and more LAZY. Things break, parts fail if you learn to fix them yourself you will save thousands by doing that alone! PRE-VENTIVE maintainance is the key.. Learn to diagnose problems before it elevates to something more serious. EVERY type of motorcycle, dirt bike, atv has it's own little problems, and if you don't learn to take care of these problems you are just asking for trouble.. And remember fix it right the first time to prevent bigger problems in the future.
Chinese machines are a great way to get youngster into riding, they are inexpensive so you won't be out thousands of dollars if your son/daughter decide they don't like riding! Most kids machines come with several safety features geared towards children.. Remote kill, kill strap on the back, automatic transmissions, floor boards instead of pegs, etc.
If you do decide to order one of these machines online, via ebay or online business, remember chances are they will be shipped directly to your home from the distributor.. It will arrive in a crate and will need some parts assembled on them.. alot of times they comes with handlebars removed and tires off so they will need to be bolted on.. Make sure your check over the WHOLE thing. Use loc-tite on bolts , if your aren't mechanically inclined i would goto a shop and see if they will assemble it for you, or if you want to take on the challenge yourself have someone look over it with you.. Some smaller shops will do it no problem the bigger dealerships may not.

If you live by these words, It will save a lot of time, and money. (I'm not rich enough to buy cheap shit twice) I once had a 72 impala and the fuel pump went. So I went to the parts store and had three choices, 1st one was $28 bucks, new, made in China. 2nd was $78 bucks, rebuilt, made in Mexico. And the 3rd was new, life time warranty, made in USA, for $175 dollars! fuck that! I said. and bought the 28 dollar one, after all, it's just a fuel pump. It lasted 8 months and it died at my house, and then I bought the Mexico one, and WOW! I got a year out of that one and had to pay for a tow, (120 dollars) So now I'm into this for $226 and a lot of time and aggravation (and missed a days work too) and I still have to buy a another one. So I buy the best, and that one lasted 12 years till the car rotted out and was sold as parts.(still running great) So I say this to myself when faced with a choice.(Even if it takes twice as long to save up to buy something, If you buy the best, you'll never be disappointed.
