Hanumatodi/Todi is 'Janatodi' in Dikshitar school of Music. The equivalent of this Carnatic Todi in Hindustani is called as Bhairavi-Thaat.( Pls. note that Todi-Thatt of Hindustani Music is entirely different, which is actually the ' SubhaPanthuvaraali'/45th Melakarta ) . Todi is the shuddha madhyamam equivalent of Bhavapriya which is the 44th melakarta scale. A peculiarity of this raga is that it is sung in all lower notes. Dasettan's rendition right from Aalapana is excellent while Thodi gives ample chance for him to reach at high octave incorporating wonderful gamakas on maneuvering variations to ornament and present an excellent and kalpanaswarom! Its rightly proliferated n well connected with phrases matching the rhythmic thala cycle. Should have presented a class niraval with Pallavi/'koluvamare gada ..' itself or at Charanam----@Aakaludii rapaa laaragimpanu jese'. Vry good rendition.
Very nice explanation in comparison with Hindustani music system. Dr KJY is god’s own blessed musician from God’s own country. No doubt. But unfortunately Sri KJY never worked on his pronunciation of the krithis from other languages. For those that enjoy a rendition along with dipping into the meaning, his singing is a very irksome bummer ..! Mispronunciation becomes a big put off despite all the flamboyant handling of the high precision mechanics of the Carnatic Raga system. Many are even hurt and offended. Jus sayin. Surprisingly unlike Tamil, Malayalam contains a great mix of Sanskrit and any complex pronunciation can easily be wireframed for the discerning aspirant. However, Dr KJY is what he is. And remains a greatest treasure, Carnatic music and wider film music could have ever wanted. Immense respects.
