That switch is the PTO safety lockout switch. It usually mounts on the inside right wall of the rear compartment. The button is usually held down firmly by the PTO lever when the PTO is fully disengaged, allowing the engine to crank up and run. Normally, once the PTO lever is engaged the switch is released. When it is released it will kill the engine if the seat is not occupied (when the PTO is engaged, blade injury to fallen riders must be prevented). Since that particular switch was broken free of its mounting, that switch will always be fully released, and the engine will neither crank, nor run. Holding the switch down manually will allow the engine to crank (provided the brake is held down) and to run (provided the seat is occupied) regardless of whether the blades are activated or not.....a dangerous situation. That PTO switch is usually fastened with two screws but was probably broken off by branches during mowing....a bad situation which needs fixing.

Mr. Ken, got a question: I have the same mower and my blades won't spin! Changed the belt after it broke and the PTO Cable and nothing! I've put the PTO in the on position the deck down to three and no blade action! I've even looked the front pulling spinning and nothing. Do you have any other suggestions?

This was my problem! You’re a life saver! My PTO cable broke...like a dummy, I got off and looked under and when I got back on, it wouldn’t start. The handle was loose and not sitting on the pto switch. I could hear it set it, but clicking, because the handle had so much slack! It’s now dark and the yard is half mowed, but I’m happy I just need a 15 dollar cable, not a new mower! Thanks again!

First things first - THANK YOU, THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I've been looking for that kill switch all day and your video put me right on it BUT . . . that's not the brake safety switch. That switch is directly under the brake peddle up front (found that one!). This kill switch is the mower deck\PTO kill switch. In my case it's not the switch that's bad. There's a small spring that keeps the PTO lever on the switch with tension. Looks like the spring has come undone from the bottom . . . now I need to figure out where it connects at the bottom!

This is a very sturdy and well built mower. I thought I wouldn't like the foot operated speed control but after one use th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTZSPVwJFBv2hORqhQamtxi-tAe5K2EtC , I can't believe I ever had one without it. It drives like a car with an automatic transmission. Easy to adjust mowing speed according to grass depth/thickness. I have yet to get used to the long throw of the blade engagement lever but kind of get why it is that way. It allows you to hold mowing for short moments if you need. The engine seems very substantial and the frame has very little flex, both adding up to an impressive package. All my previous tractors were 18 to21 hp with 42in decks. This one is 23/46. I mow about 1.5 acres about every 5 days here in Alaska and that mowing time has been reduced by about 20%, partly due to the very tight turning radius. No loop arounds lol. Hour meter, cruise control, reverse mowing capability, deck cleanout and easy assembly all add up to a very well thought out tractor.

That is the switch that is engaged by the lever that engages the blades. Blades off means switch is depressed and blades on means the switch is not depressed. Mounts to the inside wall to the right of the battery (if you are facing forward)

After spending over an hour looking for solution why my mower would not start after running for a hour, this video solved my problem. An electrical connector under the right side of the seat in the battery compartment came undone. Once I reconnected it, the engine started. Thanks for the suggestion where to look. Tried to find a wiring diagram on line, but to no avail.

Dear Friends. Please, help. My left (Driver side. The one with the adjustment gear) of the deck is high. The right side (passenger side. grass outlet side) is low. When lever is on position 4, i.e. the second highest, the right side of the deck scrapes the grass! The gear is all the way up. I.e "Driver side" of the deck is all the way down, but still too high. Do I need a new deck? New tractor? Thanks in advance.
