Walter Röhl said in documentary "Group B riding balls of fire" that Audi did some testing with S1 and it truly was THE BEAST..it gained 100km/h in 36 meters and 0-160 was 6,9 seconds..on gravel. This S1 on this video seems even more powerful..
This video is an amazing throwback to my childhood I was 10 when this rally happened, It was only a small rally for amateurs and that's when I saw Audi Quattro S1 in real life, it's my favourite rally car still. Specifically on 1:50 behind the camera there is a bus stop where I stayed

+James Coburn Sad thing is that the fans were to blame mostly, so FIA had to to something ... I blame FIA for the current crap (1.6 turbos, in 2020 bicycles with twin human power ...) but for Group B unfortunately it was the craziness of the people that did a lot of damage to the rally sport. So instead of putting more marshals and get control of the situation, Group B was doomed (especially after the death of Henri Toivonen that was the last drop in the cup)

S1 is among the most powerful BGroup, yeah, but it's a very special car, I think: despite the short wheelbase, it behaves like the 80s version, much longer wheelbase, and has the same "soft" setting and slow reactions. This makes it docile to drive (you can see even better in the camera car vids) and allows to dare a bit more

Group B was cool but they legit had people standing on the road, and people died. It's reasonable for the FIA to put an end to group B.
It was not mistake of cars, the mistake is in people standing near the road.
