Sonia and Kazuizhi definitely seemed to get closer after the simulation at least in the anime In danganronpa 2.5 it seems to be as if Sonia might've started getting feelings for Kazuichi, they seem to have more connection than the game and future arc and despair arc. Although it was a simulation whatever happens in the simulation doesn't change once you come out of it

i would have found this ship really cute if the dynamics between the two of them had been slightly different (maybe like in Nagito’s illusion, but with further development). but i still prefer it to Sondam. some people keep claiming that Sondam is canon or very close to it but it’s obviously not. just because he blushed a few times at her compliments doesn’t mean he has feelings for her. and just because she always seemed to defend him and compliment him doesn’t mean she’s in love with him. i’d say it’s more likely that she likes the idea of him. the idea of an eccentric emo boy who desperately tries to be edgy. this ship is far from canon, the dynamics between the two of them are not really engaging imo and it feels superficial. to be honest, i would find it much more wholesome if it were purely platonic.
i agree with your point of view about gundham/sonia! it seems too shallow and too "perfect" to me, they have a lot in common, which I find tedious for me. i also don't like the way gundham always belittles others or talks in that weird way, that annoys me. I think that kazuichi and sonia had an off-screen development, they were close in the last episode of danganronpa 3, and nagito's ova sonia was there waiting for kazuichi just like peko waiting for fuyuhiko and hajime waiting for nagito, I see it as a parallel, a little detail they added that means a lot
Playing the game and going for sonia first when it came to hope fragments, this helps. I was wondering why Sonia was my fiancé but also looked like she was in love with Gundham @.@ since I later found out not all free time events end up with a love confession and looking at her availability on a guide. Welp, I like Sonia with all 3. Feels like she deserves a reverse harem anyways but I also ship them with her separately too.

I will say that he does have a weird Obsession with her (at least in the games) but I think they COULD work if she had been more open abt how his actions made her uncomfortable, and they became friends before anything else, but I do believe they defo got closer after escaping the program
