I gave up drinking a number of years ago and it has changed my life massively for the better. Who knew there was a life without booze? Well there is and it's bloody brilliant! All the best with sobriety and I hope your jaw heals soon.
What do you drink instead of alcohol? I'm just about to give the lager up, and other fizzy drinks as they're not good for the stomach. So is it drinks like barley water, fruit juice?
PSA: To those seeking to drastically change their alcohol consumption (ie reduce a lot or quit entirely), CONSULT A DOCTOR! Seizures can be just as deadly as liver damage, make sure you do it safely.
This is incredibly important advice. Alcohol can be a bitch to withdraw from. You might literally not be able to do it on your own. That's not weakness, that's being smart about it. Work with professionals
Absolutely. I had to go to detox when I quit, i was drinking a liter of vodka a day. It's been 11 months and I don't want it at all! It is totally possible to quit
If all of my friends were just like yourgoodself i'd be one extremely happy man. Theres no doubt that you are indeed a lovely man Gareth. My best to you and yours.😊😊
Be strong bud, we learn from our mistakes...yeah, right, My thoughts are with you, my grand daughter watches you on my laptop, she is 12 and she says to tell you..."we love your show, you are a superstar. You did not deserve this. Wish I could be there to give you a hug"...her words and not mine!

@skracing_1805 I could tell you all the horrors of the hospital in my town in america, your story sounds like it could happen here too. Glad you won't need surgical interventions. Im an RN. I never had any physical jackpots but I was just sick and tired of what I had become. I stopped on 3/4/91. I was a beer drinker also. I've never drank alcohol since then. I kept myself close to the program and surrounded myself with AA friends. I've been sober 12,157 days a day at a time. My body is healing as well as my relationship with my family and friends. Im not the 40yo guy I was back then. Im 74 and life presents other challenges but I can meet them head on. If you haven't done it already today is the day to reach out to AA and just say I need help. AA exist for one reason to carry the message to sick and suffering alcoholics. Joe Nature Coast Florida.
My husband fractured his face in 4 places back in November. It was very painful but fortunately he didn’t need any surgery. Fingers crossed yours heals well and quickly. Stay strong and use painkillers when needed!

Hello again, Gareth, In 2004, I quit drinking alcohol due to the damage that it had done to my liver, the alcohol had reduced my liver's function by two thirds. I had been a heavy drinker for thirty years up to 2003 and it's affect crept up on me over time. My doctor nformed me that if I carried on drinking as I was, I would be dead within four years. I was drinking 120 pints of premium lager a week, that works out at an average of 17 pints a day, it's little wonder that my liver was damaged as badly as it was. In 2004, I dodn't have one alcoholic drink, I was taking milk thistle capsules to help my liver to recover quickly. My liver did repair the damage and I am now a very moderate drinker at four to eight cans a week. Best Regards, Gareth.
An alcoholic cannot cut his alcohol down ,you must be just an heavy drinker of which there are many ,I've never heard of a single alcoholic who can cut his drinking down once he has stepped over the line and became an alcoholic, Not a single one and I'm 74 whose been sober for over 20 years and not a single alcoholic who I know of has ever heard of one who has been able to cut down I'm not saying this nice man is an alcoholic ,he might just have been a heavy drinker but if he is ,the idea that one day he will be able to drink successfully ,has to be thrown out of the window once and for all
@@MARKETMAN6789 What works for one doesn't always work for all, some people can successfully cut down their drinking to sociable levels while others can't, it's all down to personality. All the best.
@@HealingpoppyAgree, some can get it under control and carry on drinking but others can’t. Didn’t ever consider myself an alcoholic as I could go without but often went for weeks when I drank every night. I fell and faceplanted a concrete pavement on a cold wet night while jogging 6 months ago. I got a condyle fracture aka Guardsman's fracture - upper jaw and had to have it repaired. 6 weeks no chewing. I eat soup, scrambled eggs, pot noodles, porridge, protein shakes. It's quite hard trying to take in a lot of liquid calories, so I ended up losing quite a lot of weight. It doesn't take very long to heal. Good that you don't need surgery for it. Good luck with your recovery. It's a warm feeling isn't it when a medical professional tells you your ailments are 'unique'! I know it always makes me feel special as I am leaving a hospital 😁.
A while ago I had a lung issue which was serious for a while. When I went for another scan , it had cleared up completely all on it's own. The doctors were stumped as it's not supposed to be possible. I definitely had that warm feeling as I left , and ever since.
@@Doug791Great news for you. The more time I spend with Dr's' (sadly a lot at the minute) the more I realise that they are just mere mortal humans like us all. They know some stuff from training and experience, don't know other stuff and get it right sometimes and are wrong sometimes. To go back to the subject of Gareth and alcohol, I will never forget being asked by a NHS department head consultant how many units of alcohol I drank each week. I said I didn't know exactly but it was a fair bit less than the government published recommended maximum. The consultant replied condescendingly that he didn't know how much that recommendation was! 😲. Which I found truly astonishing for such a high level person.... I'm thinking how can this person know if I am drinking too much if he does not know the mens/womens max weekly units! I could tell him 50 a week and he would have just jotted it down oblivious to the fact I would have been near 4 x over the limit!

It was saddening to see your video, telling us of your injuries and how they occurred. I wish you all the best in your endeavours to rid yourself of this addiction.
I don't watch you too often, but I do enjoy your food videos. I've watched your past few videos, and as a guy who struggles with alcohol moderation and someone whose entire immediate family (parents+sibling) are alcoholics/ex-alcoholics, I find it great how open you've been on your journey so far! Always a bit scary those phone calls. My mate got bloods taken at the GPs on a Wednesday and told phone back in a week. He got a call on Thursday afternoon "At your earliest convenience, and by that we mean before noon tomorrow, come to Station 14 and you'll be staying the weekend". When he got there it was oncology and within the hour he was on the ward.
Have you talked to your drinking buddies? They might be having similar thoughts. They can also be your boozing 'enablers' and you theirs. You might be able to come to some sort of mutually-beneficial understanding. If not you'll at least know where support is to be found, and where such support is absent. Thing is this faceplant of yours has inadvertently revealed more of yourself to us, so we know you better, and so you have become even more important to us. I'm 75 and all my pals have been flawed, as I am flawed, just as all humans are flawed. It's part of the package - rough with the smooth 'n all that. Wishing you well, Gaz. Be good to your fam and to yourself :)
Well done young man ,if you are going to face plant the ground then do it splendidly, most facial fractures only show after a few when bruising and swelling subsides, but I’m sure your healing will not require any thing other than time and pain relief. I saw loads of this when I worked in A&E.xx
Had my jaw broken in two places once, it was wired up and had liquidized foods for a month through a straw ...... no fun, and I have damage to my lower dental nerves for life! Let's all pray for your full recovery, and a lesson learned ....no more boozing please!
Well I admitted to a few personal things on your video.. to just get a response of just cheers is a little bit disappointing but we learn from each other.. I wish you well on your recovery and I will will get help with my issues.. just get yourself sorted out and don’t do it again

Keep positive Gareth… it’s “very easy” to slip back…if you feel you want a drink either talk with someone close or get back on here and tell us.. you need to keep talking and not drinking…keep busy to take your mind off old habits ( been there)…👍🏻🏴
Just subscribed, we are all on a journey to learn how to increase our capacity to love and be loved. We all have our struggles, thank you for your honesty and sincerity.
Glad you're recovering... but I'll bet about a thousand like me are thinking "You call that bad news? Bad news is cancer. Bad news is COPD. Bad news is kidney failure." I have all three going on. Count your blessings.
And people all blame alcohol when in reality it’s the person to blame, I’m not really a drinker myself but I sometimes have 4 pints on a weekend never caused me any arm. I exercise daily and eat healthy 80% of the time. The food you eat Gaz will be more unhealthy for you than having a few drinks on a weekend. All the best and speedy recovery you a good man👍
Glad you didn’t need surgery because it would be such stress and wait would too long for one Just keep your head down Gaz and you’ll get better and I guess it’s soup for the next couple of weeks All the best wishes Gaz stay safe and when your better hopefully not long get back to business no pressure if there’s no videos I’m sure everyone here knows how much you have been through Gaz so stay safe and best of luck

Wishing you a speedy recovery Gareth
Best wishes and congratulations on giving up drinking
Health and family are more important
Wishing you all the best xx
Great message, couldn’t agree more.
Everything happens for a reason, and perhaps this is the wake up call you needed. Wishing you nothing but the very best for you and your family, please keep us all posted. We’re all supporting you.😊
I wish you well sir. This actually made me happy to see as I have been waiting for my own diagnosis of relapse of cancer and have been getting a lot of video recommendations about people dying. It could be worse. I’ll check on your progress.
I can’t wait for Gareth’s soup reviews. It’s going to be brilliant! 😂
I know this never goes down well,,
"It could have been worse"!!!!.
Be thankful.
Hearts with you brother.
You are amazing person Gareth. With your families love and support and all your TH-cam followers too. Everything will turn out awesome for you. You're an inspiration to so many x
Good for you - keep on going. My father aged 82 beat an addiction to alcohol last year that he had had for decades. It is never too late./ Regular support of AA important - so proud of him and am willing you on., You've got this x
Keep putting one foot forward. Take every hour of every day as it comes. If I can do it, you can too mate. If you want it bad enough, it will happen. You know very few of us personally, but I can guarantee you have the support of everyone on this channel. 💪🏼👊🏻👍🏻

I cannot say how Doctors and Nurses do Great Amazing Work It would take too long Amazing careing people They Really are
There are good ones and bad ones like in any profession.
I fervently disagree with your comment
Soup is food, too. Now you can compare cheap to premium, shop to big brand and any other non solid food stuffs. You've just been handed lemons. We know what our American friends do when that happens. Lemonade, anyone?
This is a great idea which I would like to see happen when Gareth feels up to it.
Been following this guy since the start, fantastic good reviews there been fun and there saved me money too, so get yourself better and I follow you for the next 3 years too 🎉🎉🎉
I'm so glad that youtube let me know about you! Im following now and cheering you on! I'm in recovery myself and know how tough those beginning days are. Going to keep following and prayers for quick healing
Thank you
So sorry Gareth , stay strong.sending my best wishes on a good recovery. These things take time but you will get there .👍❤️🤞🏼
What a bummer - here's to a swift recovery 👍
Great news Gareth. Onward and upwards.

We are all with Gareth, stay strong!!!❤
It was saddening to see your video, telling us of your injuries and how they occurred. I wish you all the best in your endeavours to rid yourself of this addiction.
Keep up the struggle it will be worth it. Your family deserves your success.
Good luck on your journey You are lucky not to have surgery Stay strong and you will smash it
My friend you have 100% supporters on your channel. Good people like to be with good decent people . All good wishes . 😊
I hope you have a speedy recovery Gareth. Take care and onward and upward 👍
Thank you, I will
I don't watch you too often, but I do enjoy your food videos. I've watched your past few videos, and as a guy who struggles with alcohol moderation and someone whose entire immediate family (parents+sibling) are alcoholics/ex-alcoholics, I find it great how open you've been on your journey so far! I wish you the best of luck going forward 🥰🥰
Best of luck in your journey! Please please please don't ever give up and just know alcohol can and will control you if you let it -- so never give up this fight. You can do it
Get well soon mate. We are all with you
Sorry to hear this mate. Good to hear you quit drinking, I quit 7 years ago, changed my life. Wishing you all the best.
I admire you for being so honest with your demons good luck
Keep going mate 👍. You are a total legend. All the best mate. Andy in Felixstowe. 👍♥️🇬🇧💯🙏
When drunken mistakes carry on punishing are just the worst
Yeah, like when I proposed to the wife...
@topquark6919 Yep, that always leaves deep scars.
@@topquark6919I proposedb to my boyfriend and he told me to piss off, I wasn't drunk
@@topquark6919🤣🤣🤣
@@derek-press ftw!🤣
Keep your chin up, Gareth, and I hope your fractures heal quickly. We are all sending you healing vibes.
So lovely of Darren John to send best wishes to you because, like you, he is a 100% genuine guy. Get well soon Gareth. x
Had my jaw broken in two places once, it was wired up and had liquidized foods for a month through a straw ...... no fun, and I have damage to my lower dental nerves for life! Let's all pray for your full recovery, and a lesson learned ....no more boozing please!
Had mine broke but wasn't to bad never bothered getting surgery on it.when I eat can hear we crack all time lol.our even when I just move it around.
Well I admitted to a few personal things on your video.. to just get a response of just cheers is a little bit disappointing but we learn from each other.. I wish you well on your recovery and I will will get help with my issues.. just get yourself sorted out and don’t do it again
We are all thinking of you lad
I quit October 26, 2019 after the 2nd ER visit p@king up blood. You have our support brother. It's a B1tch but worth it. You have such strength .. you CAN do this. Keep us updated. Best Regards and Best Wishes!

Good old NHS always there when you really need them, glad you got it sorted Gareth, take care luv, xxx
You're welcome updates coming ☺️
It may be hard to give up the booze but just think of all the cash you’ll save!
We are all with you 🙏
Here here
I have plenty of pint glass bottles for sale mate if you need a few extra, gonna need them for this extended milking session. Dirt cheap. 😂
Hats off though nearly at the 100k. I do wish you well underneath the sarcasm. Good luck
We are behind you Gareth. ❤🇿🇼
Glad you're recovering... but I'll bet about a thousand like me are thinking "You call that bad news? Bad news is cancer. Bad news is COPD. Bad news is kidney failure." I have all three going on. Count your blessings.
Pointless going to the hospital there is no cure for stuipity.😍 we have all been there. 🤣
Did you fall over or were you in a fight?
Fall over
@@BaldFoodieGuy After being punched?
And people all blame alcohol when in reality it’s the person to blame, I’m not really a drinker myself but I sometimes have 4 pints on a weekend never caused me any arm. I exercise daily and eat healthy 80% of the time. The food you eat Gaz will be more unhealthy for you than having a few drinks on a weekend. All the best and speedy recovery you a good man👍
Yes true mate, it's me who puts in down my throat. Well said. One to think about. Wish I could stop at 4 pints.
Praying for you brother, you can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens you ❤️✝️🙏
Glad you didn’t need surgery because it would be such stress and wait would too long for one
Just keep your head down Gaz and you’ll get better and I guess it’s soup for the next couple of weeks
All the best wishes Gaz stay safe and when your better hopefully not long get back to business no pressure if there’s no videos I’m sure everyone here knows how much you have been through Gaz so stay safe and best of luck
Look on the bright side, good content and subs going up quickly!😘
Hi you're looking better than the rest of the weekend and the upcoming week 🎉
Oh thank you!
Nothing wrong with a drink once n awhile, the problem in this country /society is binge drinking
You're a very very brave man to come out with your problems to the world. I have similar issues and can't deal with them the way you deal with your problem. Absolutely amazing that you are strong enough to pass the word on to the likes of me. On the good side I've followed your recipes a few times and they're absolutely delicious… Especially the devilled kidneys LOL. Keep on the route my friend and all will be well. You seem a nice guy, even if you do come from Barrow!! You're a very brave gentleman and a very honest one too. Keep fighting keep focused on that goal that you're wanting will be achieved. Every faith in you. Keep up the good work, Kev in North Yorkshire.
You've got this! The Big Man upstairs is on your side. Blessings and prayers...
Yes! Thank you!
We're with you

Good afternoon m8
You're a very lucky man, the injuries could've been much worse or even fatal, I'm glad you're not putting the family thru anymore trauma, sending strength n luv from glasgow❤
No surgery required, that's a bonus, enjoy your soup Gareth and keep us all posted on your daily progress, I would drink to your future success, but maybe a coffee for luck would be more appropriate, keep strong lad and carry on, best wishes for the future
