In the US,, we have a similar situation on
75/80 meters. Some of those older groovers there there act like they hold title and deed to a given frequency. They
take great umbrage to newcomers who
happen to come along. I like to pour it on
and exalt them, as though they're all my personal heroes. That usually serves to take 'em aback, and they settle down.

Don't forget you got to park your net 3khz down from another net, and then 2 or 3 of the 6 guys have to have their linear splattering 7 or 8 khz wide into the adjacent net.
Cal, that video is hilarious! You are a natural born comedian in addition to being an outstanding instructor. On 75 meters in the States, you would need to utter at least three words of profanity for each regular word. And of course you would have to be drunk, run 3000 watts and have your Yaesu SSB transmit bandwidth wide open. I am still laughing to myself about this video. Please do more of them as the world needs to lighten up!

I remember as an SWL, way back in 1972 to 73, listening to the shavers net on top band every day around 8am. I was only 13 or 14 and I can still remember some of their conversations about 50 years later. The core members were G3JVZ, G3VUN and G3KGU, with some extra stations calling in from time to time. They would chat about everything from ham topics like propagation and electronics to what was on the telly the previous night. They were more above board and serious back then though as they were all old-school hams. I might check out top band now to see how much it has changed.

Hate to say, but I've had similar experiences on 80m... especially being told they can't hear me. "Get a better antenna!" Of course, they're all running 3kW to boot... "You need more power!"
I talked to a guy in the USA and he was using 1.5kW. When he asked mine I just said 30W. You could hear his jaw drop over the pond here. He did not believe me. Told him license was 50W output for UK intermediates. I think I showed him up in front of his friends on the radio from the UK.

80m anywhere in the US it seems. Sometimes worse with the jammers.
My two favorite frequencies in the HF spectrum: 7200 LSB, and, 27.385 LSB!

This is one of my favorites. And true! I one time put up a 530 foot loop at 100 feet fed with 600 ohm line and ran 500 watts. Lots of stations said sorry can't hear you, I don't like your radio, sounds off (7610), better put up a better antenna etc.... I think us normals should just bomb the 160 meter band with big signals and make it more friendly. 73s

I bloody loved that Callum, so funny and tounge in cheek. I don't participate in nets, I can't be doing with trying to remember what everyone has said and being beholden to a "controller". Don't have the space for a top band antenna and I've never had a qso on 160m, in fact where I live, I've never heard anyone up there.

Haha I remember when you posted this the first time and had forgotten how true and funning it was. I recall listening to the 1939 fuddy duddy net one night when a few of them had clearly been drinking the next thing they were going to fight each other regarding a disagreement over homemade and bought radios.. Consequently a hilarious Zimmer frame fight ensued over the airwaves. Don’t hear them anymore probably all silent key from blunt troumer ingeries.
