Monogamy is not normal in the animal kingdom for mammals. It's the opposite. Just running through a list in my mind of mammals that do not practice monogamy: Bears, every member of the "deer and elk" kind, all rodents, all wolverines and other weasels, apes...I can't think of any mammals off the top of my head that DO practice monogamy.
It's birds that are really into that. Almost all birds of prey mate for life. Ducks and geese. Many songbirds. Birds are really the main monogamy creatures on our planet.
