Aww... Klaroline, they were the pairing that broke everyone's heart. They had this undeniable bond that kept bringing them back to each other. But Klaus never could get out of his own way. He could have ended up with Caroline, the woman of his dreams, if only he could let go of his manipulative ways and constant need for power. Klaus' problem was that he couldn't let go of his lust for power and need for control. And because of that, he's relationship with Caroline suffered. By the time Klaus finally grew up and learned to be less controlling and more compassionate towards other it was too late. In the end he sacrificed himself to save the life of his daughter. And he never got the happy ending that he always wanted with Caroline.
Lol, I see it other way. While in Mystic Falls, Klaus went out of his ways pretty much (compared to what he was capable of) but Caroline felt loyalty towards Tyler and her friends (yeah, loyalty). That indeed was greedy to leave for NOLA but he was preparing kingdom for his daughter (or we can say outright: he got his own show). And this way Caroline could live the way she wanted, like being with Tyler, going to college, simply figure out what she wanted in life. This way she wasn't groomed and could make her own decisions - and that was a huge sacrifice for overprotective Klaus! They met once and he made promise to never come back but she was always welcome to join him. I think that if not for events, she would come to NOLA after graduating. There was this epic phone call, she also once came to him for help but he was nowhere to be found so she started thinking she was just a fling to him and tried to move on. They met ~10 years later for a brief moment and soon he died.
They weren't the main couple. They never actually dated. They both met in The vampire diaries, Klaus had a thing for Caroline but she was dating another guy, then Klaus moved from the vampire diaries to the originals while Caroline stayed in the vampire diaries. In the originals they reunited but they still didn't date

They are my favorite couple in the whole tv universe, even after all these years they still remain the most popular and loving ship. I do love Caroline and Stefan, but it’s totally different. They became one of the most anticipated and wished for couples... but the timing was so bad. One loved the other to early and one loved the other too late... but they were an amazing match. The opening line happens at the end of The Originals when Klaus chooses to sacrifise himself to save his daughter from The Hollow. She was the only one to really break through the Klaus´loving and true side... even though there was also a character in The Orignals, I dont think anyone ever doubted that his love was always there.

I think to fully love this couple you have to watch VPD and TO's. Caroline and klaus's character develop a lot throughout. Caroline was the only one who really understood him, even when he was busy being the big bad wolf. He would listen to her whereas anyone else, he'd kill them there and then. He had a soft spot for her. Alway polite, like a puppy around her.
Yes, he always put her first and she always felt safe around him! I know that statement might seem unimportant for someone who didn't watch the show, but Caroline was always everyone's second choice. And Klaus was the biggest villain of the TVD so far, so bad that Damon (Caroline said that calling Damon Satan was an insult for Satan) stated he's the most evil person he met. People need to change their pants just after hearing his name... ...and then Caroline walks into a bar an says she would rather die of thirst than have a drink with him. Then he almost get hit by a car while chasing her. She would barge into his house like it was her own and call it a life threat situation because she lost her prom dress. These lines sound cheesy on paper but Candice and Joseph made them magical!

From season 1 yes I think The Vampire Diaries is kinda for teenagers cuz some of the characters are still in high school but then I don't think it is for teenagers as a whole series, eventho the chemistry between characters are so contras but don't worry it's not only focus on drama. A lot of things happened in this show not just love and heartbreaks. The Originals more focus on family eventho there's still chemistry between characters but when they started the show non of the characters are still in high school so maybe that's why people see it as more mature. Both are good in their own way. I suggest to watch TVD first then you can watch both at the same time when The Originals characters move to their own show it'll be fun.
Please watch klaus&caroline - on top of the world (humor) , because Klaroline is incomplete without roast. Or you can just watch all their scenes because they had together about 30 minutes of screentime plus the ones in The Originals, which would be another 30 minutes. Don't listen to kids about TVD or TO. It's not true, TVD is a giant of a show, kids understand only the romance part, and don't have the tools to understand all the other huge part of it that is there for adults to get. They think TO is more adult because there little romance and is more concentrated on battles, power straggle, family value, but the point is that TO is plain and simple there is nothing to understand, you just sit and passively watch and when you finish you are done. TVD has an entirely different complexity requires for you to be active in deciphering what is going on, and has a circular structure that gives you piece by piece all information about the characters and you get the full picture only at the very end, information with which you can re-watch the show and every action and character motivation has an entire another meaning, TVD is complex, layered, beautifully written like very rarely I have seen and in very deep, is about what love means in a person life journey, is about community and for the new generation to move on from the legacy of hatred for anything different that the old generation left to their kids (very much an allegory for racism, with references to Nazism, or homophobia too) is about the value friendship, of family, and so much more. And touch so many issues, like survivor guilt, child abuse, PTSD, codependency, etc. Kids don't have the tools to understand all of that, going on in TVD. Don't get me wrong TO is a great show too, but, just to give you an idea, TVD won 36 award and had 67 nomination, TO never won anything and has only 13 nomination, and that is not by chance, the level of artistry and cinematography is very high in TVD as professionals validated in the awards that are not due to networking because the writers of TVD and TO are the same.
