When the male announcer questioned Carlos D about what surprised him and corners him because he does not answer something authentic, it is impossible not to observe Paul's smile: pure gold.

@@davidlawrence6464 Correct, Paul has been doing bass since Carlos left. I love their newer stuff too. Have you listened to A Fine Mess yet? It's their EP they released after Marauder.
Pretty evident from this interview that Carlos was very unhappy in being in the band at this time. Carlos was never like this during Antics and TOTBL. Hope he's doing ok.
It seems like a lot of people think Carlos is being a jerk here, but I don’t know. When he asked for the glass of water near the beginning I think he was just being a little dramatic, sure he can seem like a pre-Madonna but I don’t see any harm in it, I don’t think he was genuinely trying to be rude to the interview. Him and Paul seem to smiling together afterwards too, so I think it’s just a bit of fun. Anyway, pretty good interview, I like when they were talking about weird places Interpol songs appear.
I realize I don't know Carlos, but I feel like a lot of the time he is misunderstood for being pompous or whatever. In general, I've noticed that he's really articulate and seems to enjoy his speaking skills and discussing a variety of topics; he really is quite suave and interesting. Sometimes when people are like this, people think they're a snob. I find him very polite, honest, and intelligent.
Whenever Carlos is saying something, look at Paul's face. :D I think it's a clue on how to deal with Carlos being a asshat in this interview. Note how the interviewers are serious about the superficial stuff they're saying while Carlos is being sarcastic, if not cynic. I hate overload of sarcasm and cynicism but anyway... Paul sorta guides you through this embarrassing vid.
That line carlos said about him wanting a drink of water was so unnecessary smarmy and rude. Even the way he said it sounds so pretentious “without my having drunk a glass of water 🤓” like he could have just said excuse me could i have a drink please
Well it's the fact that these are just human beings just like everyone else and for artist to act this way just because they've had some songs played on the radio and have been treated with so much attention, some people are used to that and expect that all the damn time. Be respectful because it doesn't last forever Carlos.
@entertainer106 OH, and I absolutely LOVE Carlos' speaking voice. It's so smooth and yet has this commanding presence. I sound like such a Carlos fangirl. I'm actually smitten with Paul, though.
@UltraSandwich24 they did, and some one who makes keyboard arrangements like he did on the last two albums, they're not gonna be the same without Carlos D.
I guess Carlos was bored of all these interviews and repetitive stuff and have to spice it up a little, some drama, some something besides I think he's totally able to give his honest opinion about anything even if that makes him a douche... Anyway I think he just got bored of this whole rockstar thing, which is so sad because now I love Interpol with a bittersweet feeling.
1) the girl asked if they would like some water at the beginning, but she never brought it. Carlos, although I don't know him so I can't be 100% sure, reminded her in a douche-y way. As much as i admire Carlos has a bassist his kind of a wanker but hey his still a sick ass Bassist who probably got me into the instrument. Also is it me or does Carlos look like a fucking vampire from Twilight :(
No, he was not. He was sick of touring and going sober. He was not rude at all, just stern. You can see him in many other interviews playing around and smiling even here, he's just doing it to be funny.
