This brings back great memories. I still have my original wheel rally case filled with 2 original cars, chassis to chassis in each slot. I had not thought about them for years until I became a parent and discovered the art of collecting while bringing my young son to a toy train exhibit. After I saw the value of some of the cars, I phoned my Mom and asked if she still had it. Of course being the sentimental lady she was, she did. It sent me on a wild hiatus, and in the 90's, I decided I would begin collecting again for my son. I now have cases on shelves in my garage filled with over a thousand cars in their original blister packs. It's gotten out of hand!.
Wow. That is excellent.....Wish I still had some of mine.... Great you are sharing and doing it with your son as well......Yes, it is a deeeeeeeep hole once you start down...LOL Thanks for watching
lol, about 20 years ago I went searching on ebay for toys I had as a kid just to see what they really looked like. It took me to look at Hot Wheels, and I stumbled upon some auctions for a salesman sample case break where the guy was selling them one by one out of the cases. I said to myself if I were to buy one of them this would be what I would buy for it to really be worth anything. First two nights I bid on one and in the morning I got an email that I was outbid so the last night I bid on 2 and in the morning I got an email that I had won both bids. lol. So I got a blue and an olive original Firebird. That led me on a collecting spree for a few years and I got about 100 of them. Put them in a box wrapped up in the correct type of tissue.
When I was a kid in the early 70's I had Hotwheels and Matchbox, and always preferred Matchbox because those were more a replica of cars you'd see on the road. Fast forward to about 2010, when I made a 4-lane wooden ramp to race cars down the hallway in our house. My son, daughter and I would take every Matchbox/Hotwheel in the house (my old ones that were very well-loved, and my kids' new ones) and run them down the ramp to crown the champion fastest car in the house. It would take us an hour or more to get all the cars through their heats. What a blast! Superbirds won a lot.

They need to bring back the 4 car series models where all the cars in the series have the same paint scheme but different models. I use to collect Hotwheels and at one time I had over 400 cars. This is one of the most informative videos I've seen yet! I collect hot wheels 😍. And never seen a inside look at how they're made? Thank you for this great video.
This is a very interesting video - thank you so much. I was about 10 when Hot Wheels were released for the first time. My grandmother bought me my first playset. I love them. As others have said, they are no longer just a dollar, but that is to be expected. They ARE still quite inexpensive. And since they are inexpensive but with quite a few steps involved in making them, one thing I wonder about is what kind of wage those who made and assembled Hot Wheels were/are paid. Thank you again for the informative video.
Thank you very much. It has always amazed me that they were able to keep them below a dollar for the longest time. But at some sacrifice. First thing to go was the metal engines.....Then the Opening hoods......then the metal bases.......They still do an excellent job but if those cars were built here they would be easily $10 or more because of lots of things including wages. Sadly I am certain they are no where near what we make here.....Thanks for watching
Nice behind-the-scenes video. It's fascinating and educational, plus you get to see the dedication involved in the whole process. Thank you. I do have one question though. What happens to the test/battered cars?
It WAS a dollar. Now thanks to this administration it has went up. It was the only thing that keep the same price my entire life mostly. Til now 😢. As an adult I would always buy hotwheels. Because if I had a few dollars in my pocket. I could always count on HOTWHEELS TRADITION BEINGA DOLLAR. I know to most a dollar is nothing. But to a kid it’s like having a million dollars.I never thought I would’ve seen the day. I thought yea they will change the price after I’m gone. It was a tradition and still is that the kids always got some hotwheels for Xmas. I know why they changed the price. But Hats off to you Hotwheels for standing your ground for most of my life ❤ Thank you 🙏
I agree 100%. With that stated when they went up on the factory 500 set I felt they were testing the waters for a price increase then. Just like I need a battery for one of my cars. I bought one 3 years ago for $75. Now it is $200...Just stupid. Thanks for watching
Every kid's obsession starts at .99 cents. Well, in '68 I think it was .35 cents. I have collected Hot Wheels since they were released in '68, and I have more Hot Wheels than any 10 year old! I still have some of the originals too. I still get a little shudder when I think about hiw many times my mom used the track sections as a weapon...

The place that did the castings in the 1960's was in Gardena California on Vaness ave. just south of El Segundo Bl. Eldon Toys was just around the corner on El Segundo Bl. We had fun digging in they're trash.

Been a hot wheels fanatic since i was a child. I wondered how they are made... thanks for the video.
LOL...Since you made that statement I had to look. There have been over 4,000,000,000 Hot wheels made over the years. That is more than all the automobiles made combined. It is crazy. Thanks for watching
Sweet video, nice to see how its done
Thank you very much, A lot of people have no idea how much work goes into a dollar toy. LOL.....Thanks for watching

And remember that each car has a different mold.... Imagine how many machines are there.
Probably a plant as big as Ford. LOL Thanks for watching
Bit like Lego
I would think the molds are interchangable in the machine so many machines arent needed. They make a run of one model, swap out molds and make a run of another.
@@boristheamerican2938 WOW! I actually never thought of that! Still a lot of molds though! It takes a lot of effort to make a single casting change!
@@blackbird5026 Well Im an engineer and I have the curse of the engineer. lol They would definitely run thousands. I would not think they would run different molds at the same time due to the cost of sorting.

Wonder how they're painted? If they use a electronic system that attracts the paint to the bodies?
It might just be . Like the powder coating system. Thanks for watching

I grew up watching the original VCR movie set for the Highway 35 world race and then fell in love with Hot Wheels asking my parents to buy me sets based off the movie and eventually seeing the DVD Acceleracer series collecting the Drone, Teku, Metal Maniacs, and Silencer vehicles. I also collected the cards and some race tracks but most of my stuff is gone lost to time sadly. I'll recollect them one day in the future tho.
Excellent. I understand. All of mine from my childhood are looooong gone as well. And I now find myself trying to recapture some of them..........Thanks for watching
Its amazing they can sell for $1 and still make a profit. Also the retailer is selling for $1 so you know Mattel is getting less than $1.
Exactly. That may be why they are always made outside the US. Make for pennies and then mark up over here. Thanks for watching

I was shocked to read you responded to my comments. Something went wrong, and it could be that my son (who is on the Autism Spectrum) was playing with my phone. The comments that were posted to your video were written about another video totally different video, so I deleted them. You must have thought I was on drugs. I don't know how you secured your footage of that manufacturing process, but I'm glad you did. I've read about it repeatedly but it was still fun to see it! Safety and Sanitize! Have fun with your toys!
LOL...No worries. No I did not think that. but I was like,,,,,,ok.......LOL The footage is clips from another video that was done as an "editorial" piece. They need to bring back the 4 car series models where all the cars in the series have the same paint scheme but different models. I use to collect Hotwheels and at one time I had over 400 cars. It was a lot of fun going to stores and conventions shopping for that one particular car in the series you can't find. I've paid as much as 30 bucks for one car just to complete the series.
Hotwheels ROCK!!!
I agree....They need to bring back some of their heritage type of cars.....Even if they do them as premiums..........Thanks for watching

You probably mean a certain year right? You can’t find some as they were prototype’s that were destroyed, or taken off the market before they even reached it.
Cool to c. I've collected for 24 years just prior to the dairy delivery coming out in the 98 1st editions. That's my favorite casting as its modeled after a Divco brand milk truck.
I used to have several of the first edition Dairy Deliveries. It was one of my faves as well. Thanks for watching

I collect hot wheels 😍. And never seen a inside look at how they're made?
Thank you for this great video.
Cool!!!! No sir. Thank you , for watching.
I have no idea. Probably chunked into a bin until it is full and then melted down and put back in the cycle. Thanks for watching

But Hats off to you Hotwheels for standing your ground for most of my life ❤
Thank you 🙏
I agree 100%. With that stated when they went up on the factory 500 set I felt they were testing the waters for a price increase then. Just like I need a battery for one of my cars. I bought one 3 years ago for $75. Now it is $200...Just stupid. Thanks for watching

I still have some of the originals too. I still get a little shudder when I think about hiw many times my mom used the track sections as a weapon...
