To be fair to the Brandt line, it's obviously looking at GDP per capita, not overall GDP. India's and China's GDP per capita are still fairly low because of how many people live there and Singapore and South Korea really were poor in the 1980s. What's really missing are the Gulf states which were already extremely rich in the 1980s.

@@BurntCookiesYT This is exactly what happens. China and India are good examples of extremely unequal growth of the economy. A small share of population got really rich, enriching the entire country but the average person is just getting by. It's still a big step from starving but nowhere near to be called "developed nation"...also, China is clinging to that category because of trade being in their favour if they are classified as developing. For the same reason, countries like Poland played themselves by going for the "developed" too early, basically throwing away any help for the sake of "prestige".

It's also made in that way to look simpler and clearer
I don't know who would treat this even in the times back then as sth inforamative - it's just a massive oversimplifiaction
And obviously we aren't talking about the whole GDP's of those countries only GDP per capita. The good example for that is China and India - both hava about the same amount of people but the difference in wealth and technological development is massive. Many people consider China today as a global center of innovation and high-tech development while we all know from most of us know India from.
We are talking about the wealth of the people/nation not about the wealth of government that takes money from hundred milions of people. We are talking about the productivity of the individual and use of modern technology in order to maximize the efficiency and make the work of that individual healthier, safer and better

    • @simulacrumpilot2777

Even on a per capita basis the map is still inaccurate.
The global South in that map includes countries like South Korea, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait, Malaysia, Chile, Cyprus etc who are all pretty rich countries. Meanwhile the North includes countries like Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Albania, Belarus etc who are all pretty poor.
So Drew is right. That map really REALLY didn't age well.

@4ireboss164 I think Strömkarlen and Näcken are the same creature but named differently in different parts of Sweden. It is depicted as a man playing the violin naked in a river to lure people close and then drowning them.
Bäckahästen is probably a Swedish variant of that horse creature you mentioned from Norway.

More interesting, though, is that the "Coca" was taken to South America by us and the spanish but the only place I know that has something similar to that in the Iberian Peninsula is the "Festa da Coca" in the extreme North of Portugal and the "Coca" is a dragon that, according to the pagan tradition, was slayed in a battle against St. George (São Jorge).
