A brief reminder for those who never saw it, Isaac Hayes son came out saying that he never quit south Park, someone from the cult of scientology quit for him while he wasn't able to speak for himself due to failing health. Never forget, never forgive.

Let me tell you something, despite how racist Cartman can be, he LOVED Chef. I think that really speaks a lot about what makes Cartman such a sad, tragic villain character... His hatred is often defined by these ridiculous overreactionary irrational fears that he has, and losing that one person that he could love in spite of that and still believing in him in spite of that is genuinely beautiful. Chef was the person that he would turn to when he had these little catastrophizing moments but now he's gone and it's little wonder that his bigotry got progressively more extreme as the series continued. Cartman is sad because of his potential to be good, it's shown plenty of times in the series, I could write for hours about what makes him so fascinating. He's popular for a reason.

Here's the (actual) context: Isaac was never a hypocrite and it wasn't his call to leave the show. The Scientology episode aired in November 2005. Isaac told them that they got some things wrong but he understood that it was their mojo. Meanwhile Scientology was pissed at the airing of the episode. Fast forward to January 2006. He had a stroke and lost most cognitive abilities, which included thinking rationally and his ability to speak. In March 2006 while he was relearning how to speak, a spokesperson quit, and claimed it was on Isaac's behalf. But Matt and Trey didn't know this, and just assumed he was being a hypocrite. That's why they killed him off in a very gruesome episode. It's also why at the funeral, Kyle says "that fruity little club (Scientology) scrambled Chef's (Isaac's) brains." What most likely happened here is that while he was recovering Scientology told him to either pick them or the show, and he picked them...either that or Scientology basically forced/convinced Isaac to believe that Matt and Trey were dicks. Meanwhile he returned to his music career and still performed songs, but according to Roger Friedman, a reporter who knew Isaac, he wasn't the same as he was before his stroke, it looked like he was phoning in his performances. In an interview he had in a podcast he stated that he wasn't on good terms with Matt and Trey, which is what Scientology made him think. A few months after that he died. I don't think he was a hypocrite at all. It sucks that Scientology got in his head. It's not a religion it's a cult and the only reason it is classed as a religion is because they blackmailed the IRS after they gained access to classified documents. 10 years after the episode aired, Matt and Trey sat down with Isaac's son who basically confirmed that Isaac didn't quit on his own, and Matt and Trey knew something was up because it just didn't add up. Isaac's life was good, but when things in his life got bad, it got BAD. And that's why I think his end sucks. He deserved a happier one. tl;dr Scientology exploited Isaac's thinking after he had a stroke and quit for him.
That last line of "Get the HELL outta here, children!" was so real and genuine it almost felt like Issac Hayes was really voicing his final line for South Park. Edit: I understand that these are all recycled lines, I'm just pointing out how genuine this moment felt. RIP Isaac Hayes.
When I honestly first saw this I didn't realize his dialogue was archived. I thought they actually brought him back for a final episode as I hadn't seen all the episodes in order of their proper release at the time. so I didn't realize the lines from past episodes

Every time they go to school, or every time they’re in the cafeteria, a part of me still wants to see Chef interact with them, but I know that will never happen, and that’s sad. Shame what happened between Isaac Hayes and Stone and Parker. Who knows what would’ve happened with the character if that conflict had never happened. R.I.P Isaac Hayes
The best thing about this is its back-story; just in case you didn't know, Isaac Hayes "received orders from Scientology" to stop doing Chef's voice-over, because of South Park repeatedly calling out Scientology as a freaky cult. So the team just lifted random soundbites from Hayes' prior recording sessions and dropped them awkwardly into new material, which is why Chef sounds so disoriented throughout the episode. Then they gave Hayes a proper "finish," to put it lightly...
He didn't even quit himself, he never wanted to. His son said in an interview that after Isaac had gotten ill someone from Scientology contacted the people at South Park studios and quit in his name without Isaac's knowledge. Horrible thing to happen to such a great man.

Can you imagine the pain Isaac Hayes must have felt being unable to speak or function properly after recently suffering a stroke just to watch Trey and Matt masacre him off because the Church of Scientology “spoke on his behalf” without his fam or anyone elses knowledge claiming “he was offended and wanted out.” That’s straight up depressing and tragic as hell. He prob never wanted to leave and spent his final years feeling like a prisoner while Matt and Trey had no idea until recently that he didn’t mean it all this time! It’s so crazy to think that it almost sounds like a crazy ass plot from a movie or something.
I’m way late to the party, and as sad as it is, the silver lining if any is that, fortunately, it would seem he wasn’t in any state of mind to even comprehend there was an issue with Matt and Trey at all. He had to relearn a lot of things after the stroke, and Scientology censors negativity about them to their members as it is.

What separates this moment of Kyle yelling "You bastards!" from all the other times he's yelled it before, you can actually hear and sense how furious and heartbroken he really was. Same with Stan with his phrase, "Oh my god, they killed [---]!" Instead of being shocked in a more comedic way like usual, he was genuinely shocked and just in utter disbelief that Chef was killed

As a kid I loved all the bad words, crude humor and gore. As an adult knowing the backstory and the real pain of episodes like this, really makes you appreciate how genius Matt and Trey truly are, and their ability to communicate EXACTLY what they were feeling. Still all these years later are the only people that will publicly call out Scientology.

His VA quit *(was forced to by Scientology.)* South Park couldn't keep Chef and they wanted to kill him off partially out of anger towards Scientology, and partially so they didn't have to get a new VA.

This episode was actually he most saddest one I’ve ever seen, chef actually cared about the people of South Park and was nice I wish he could just come back to the show.
My first South Park game I've played was Chef's Luv Shack and I enjoyed Chef's persona in it whenever I played it. When I saw this episode when I was a kid, it forever broke me that both Issac Hayes and Chef have passed away. I've cried hard by the end since I had loved Chef as a character and he died in a painful death, it just felt unfair for a selfless and caring character.

This was a fantastic tribute to the character of Chef and the importance that he has to the boys. Despite their differences one can say that Chef was the only adult who cared and Understand the boys. He will be missed dearly.

The fact that he was still alive(for 15 seconds) after his face was ripped off,his one arm and one leg was bitten off,his upper body was almost completely ripped apart from his bottom,and somewhere close to his heart was spiked shows how strong Chef really is.
I still remember when chef thought the boys killed ms chokesondick, and he brought them money and tickets to leave South Park and go into hiding, he was such a real one
This death is the only animated death that makes me uncomfortable, just seeing chef's face ripped off by a mountain lion is a whole another level of disturbing

The Return of Chef along with ManBearPig and Hell on Earth 2006 are one of my all time favorite South Park episodes and Season 10 was a brilliant South Park season. South Park never gets old. The first ten seasons of South Park from 1997 to 2006 are absolute gold, Isaac Hayes was great as Chef, and Chef was one of the best South Park characters. Chef joining The Super Adventure Club was terrible and Chef's death scene was very sad.
Bruh. Look at the signs. Matt and Tray ripping off Chefs face showing Issac was two faced. Them representing the bear and cougar leaving him behind. You can tell they were angry at Issac and upset that they lost a friend.
The turning point of South Park. I remember being shocked how they treated Issac's character like this. Felt terrible at skewl for a month or so since i watched this show around the second season. What a blow, man.

I’m way late to the party, and as sad as it is, the silver lining if any is that, fortunately, it would seem he wasn’t in any state of mind to even comprehend there was an issue with Matt and Trey at all. He had to relearn a lot of things after the stroke, and Scientology censors negativity about them to their members as it is.

What separates this moment of Kyle yelling "You bastards!" from all the other times he's yelled it before, you can actually hear and sense how furious and heartbroken he really was. Same with Stan with his phrase, "Oh my god, they killed [---]!" Instead of being shocked in a more comedic way like usual, he was genuinely shocked and just in utter disbelief that Chef was killed

As a kid I loved all the bad words, crude humor and gore. As an adult knowing the backstory and the real pain of episodes like this, really makes you appreciate how genius Matt and Trey truly are, and their ability to communicate EXACTLY what they were feeling. Still all these years later are the only people that will publicly call out Scientology.

My first South Park game I've played was Chef's Luv Shack and I enjoyed Chef's persona in it whenever I played it. When I saw this episode when I was a kid, it forever broke me that both Issac Hayes and Chef have passed away. I've cried hard by the end since I had loved Chef as a character and he died in a painful death, it just felt unfair for a selfless and caring character.
That final log that Chef fires out is a fucking monster.

The fact that he was still alive(for 15 seconds) after his face was ripped off,his one arm and one leg was bitten off,his upper body was almost completely ripped apart from his bottom,and somewhere close to his heart was spiked shows how strong Chef really is.

The Return of Chef along with ManBearPig and Hell on Earth 2006 are one of my all time favorite South Park episodes and Season 10 was a brilliant South Park season. South Park never gets old. The first ten seasons of South Park from 1997 to 2006 are absolute gold, Isaac Hayes was great as Chef, and Chef was one of the best South Park characters. Chef joining The Super Adventure Club was terrible and Chef's death scene was very sad.
