I used a gold metallic thread and put it on a green and red balls. So beautiful. Thank you for your video

Thank you for the lovely cover for ornament balls. My first was a little wonky and the last round did not have enough chains. So, when I wove the thread and pulled it tight, one of the 15 chains broke.
The one I just finished had 18 chains instead of the 15 as in my first cover. They are super easy and your instructions are perfect, not too fast, just enough to easily follow. These will make special Christmas gifts this year. Thank you again, I do love your instruction videos.

Ive made 9 so far with white thread, a mix of red shiny, dark blue glitter and dark green glitter balls-all gifted. Have 4 larger dark purple balls to cover for myself. Easy to make and they look stunning!

I just finished my fourth ornament and I made a slight change. I put the starting circle over the ball stem and drew the closing thread at the bottom of the ball. I found it was easier to tie when it's held in place by the stem and most of the crochet decoration is at the top of the ball.

Oh my that is gorgeous! I was supposed to spend the morning doing some research for my daughter's school project, but once again found myself spellbound by your tutorials! Now I'm gonna have to drag myself away, but when I'm finished I am definitely making some of these for my mom for Christmas :) You and Bob Wilson are my favorite tutors

I learned a trick to make it easier to knot things like this without an extra set of hands. Instead of just looping it once and then again for the knot, loop it twice first. It seems to make it hold better so you can get the knot tied just where you want it.

I find when you tie your first knot that you tie the knot loosely, then wrap one of the ends around again, then pull tight, it holds so it doesn't slip. I will be totally giving this a go, they're so pretty!!

Hi Mikey, I'm just working on this great pattern! I bought some much larger Christmas armaments to use and made some adjustments on mine. Using the Red Heart Holiday yarn and E/3.5 hook I made it work beautifully. Love how they're turning out! I shared a video of the ones I made!
    Thanks for another helpful video!

Thank you very much for these instructions and it's really fun to make as i've already completed two. I decided to do plain white yarn on traditional x-mas red ornaments. Really great project and I like how you explain every step clearly without being too repetative for us above beginner level ^^

I used 'Spangle' by Premier Yarns along with a size F (3.75mm) hook. every chain I pulled pretty tight in order to keep the size as close to original as possible. Thank you for the tutorial, it makes it so much easier to be able to watch with some patterns!

I like this pattern. I might try it and finish off by using a needle with the thread and pull it up that way. I think it might make it easier to to hold the end string and do a typical sewing tie off.

Great project! I do have a suggestion: when tying the top, use a surgeon's knot. Instead of passing the end through the loop once for a standard knot, pass around and through again. Once tightened down, it will hold itself for the second part of the knot much easier. Thanks for the ideas!!!

  • @conniekeen7732

I used size 10 crochet thread and size 7 (1.65mm) steel crochet hook and the resulting cover fit perfectly on a smaller Christmas ball ornament. Worked great! However, when he finished off the first time and began with a new thread end, I just slipped stitched over to the center of the ch 9 space.

She wants me to make her a doiley for Christmas with the hooks she gave me :) I think this will be a good start and a nice extra :)

Ok do I did a lot of tying together, because I like to take everyday items and make them beautiful, in this case it was feedbag thread, very strong, we have three horses that go through about 8 bags of feed a month.

  • @jaylie123

To make finishing easier set the ball in an ordinary glass (just choose the right size). That will hold the ball while you tie off the string.

Love this Christmas craft pattern! Mikey, I'm wondering where I could find your original "smiley flowers" pattern, not the Paton or Bernat flower patterns. I know you're very busy--do you have someone to answer questions for you? Thanks.

Think this would be better tied off at the bottom of the ball instead of the top and yes of course you would have to have someone to hold the ornament as you made the knot. Tied at the bottom would allow the pattern you worked so hard on to show more. The only tweek you would have to make would be to make sure the starting chain would fit down over the neck of the ornament.

I like the pattern! but had issues with where each loop row joined. I rewrote them with better way to end each loop row. (I have crocheted off and on for 50+ yrs)
    Instructions
Rnd 1: Ch 8, join wth sl st to form ring.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 19 dc in ring. Join with sl st to the top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 3: *Ch 4, skip next dc, sc in the next dc. Repeat again from * all the way around Last loop- ch 2 and hdc (half double crochet) into base of beginning loop.
Rnd 4: *Ch 5, sc in the ch-4 space, repeat from * around to the end. Finish last loop.. ch 3 and dc (equals ch 5) into base of beginning loop.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, then * 3 sc in the same spot as the ch-5 space, then ch 9. Repeat from * all the way around. Last loop.. ch 4 and tc (equals ch 9) into base of beginning loop
Rnd 6: 6 sc over the tr stitch. Then *12 sc in each loop.* repeat around In last loop 6 sc and slipstitch in first sc
Rnd 7: *Ch 15, sc to the next 6th sc of the next loop*. Repeat from * around.
(If you have a smaller ball, you will chain between 5 to 15. Less chains will make the lace thread tighter to the ball. Too tight and it will not stretch around the ball. I would suggest trying half and then try stretching it to see it it’s going to work. Just use an educated guess to best determined the perfect fit.)Fasten off and wave in ends
