This is great! I’m over people telling me that I’d be good at copywriting, then make an alcoholic drink and not do anything about it. Currently working on my speck work. Thank for providing some specifics because I can be all over the place.

Getting started is the hardest part, but just start small and you'll pick things up quickly!

Agreed that thick skin and flexibility are a must in this industry. I think that would have scared a 20 year old version of me off, but anyone can get over the rejection piece and not take it personally.

Definitely! It can sound scary, but I would hate for someone to not be prepared for that part of the job.

I really wanted to work in creative department. Currently I am working as graphic designer in an ad agency. But don't know where to start or what things to learn and focus?

hello! as someone coming from the public accounting industry (no prior marketing/ ad experience), how do i get my foot in the door at an ad agency? i am very interested in copywriting and feel i have the right personality for it- now just trying to figure out how to make it happen! thanks!

Hi there! I would definitely start by making a portfolio. I have some stuff about this on this channel and my TikTok that you might find helpful about portfolios. You'll want to start practicing your writing skills and create spec work to put in your portfolio. Then, I'd look into internships or entry-level writing jobs at agencies/companies that interest you!

Thanks for sharing! It's inspiring to hear this but also bitter sweet. I have most of these qualities, and would be SUPER excited to be doing this kinda work but i just CAN'T seem to get in. No one will give me a chance, I've been trying for a year so I'm now applying for regular jobs which is really depressing. Do i just keep sending my portfolio to agencies? Is my portfolio not good enough, or is it just saturated? I'm so lost right now. How do you get your foot in the door?

The job market is definitely tough right now. So sorry you're dealing with that! Definitely keep beefing up your portfolio as much as you can. Ask the places that you apply to for feedback. They may not reply, but if they do, it will be super helpful to know why you weren't considered for the job. Shoot for all size and type agencies. Traditional agencies have changed a lot over the years, so there may be more opportunity at smaller or more niche places that you have to dig to find. And try to attend networking events or industry events around you (or online). Networking sucks lol, but it's so necessary for this industry and someone you meet there may be your in for a job!

@StuffAboutAdvertising Oh wow, thank you so much for replying, I really appreciate it! Do you offer portfolio reviews? I'd be happy to hire you for a quick call to see if there's something I'm missing that's holding me back. If this is something you offer where can I reach you?
