    Always has been my favorite cover of a Beatles' song. Duane Allman (the legendary guitarist on this track) had to talk him into recording it.

    so happy Sky Dog talked Wilson into covering this as he did not want to. Duane Allman was a master vibing out these tunes to make them what they became!
    Wilson is just a powerhouse that can't be denied what a combination. Duane also was the whaling guitar on Layla With "Derek and the Dominos" Eric Clapton.

    I have always liked Wilson Pickett. He was so soulful. I appreciate the cover. It is very much like him. Certainly I like the original better but never would diss this version. When it comes to the Beatles I have very high standard. He is awesome.

    Joe Cocker was a master of covers. His renditions of With a Little Help From My Friends and She Came in Through the Bathroom Window are every bit as good as the original Beatles versions...... maybe even better. Of course, you first need to hear the Beatles versions to appreciate Joe Cocker's covers.

    Hey Hari! Watch the Muscle Shoals documentary on Netflix. They detail this song n Wicked Wilson’s stent recording there (as well as Aretha’s!)
    The players n engineer say that final guitar break from Duane Allman was the moment “Southern Rock” was born. (Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd etc)

    Thank you Harri - that was a great reaction to a wonderful version of "Hey Jude". What I liked most about the performance that Wilson and Duane Allman put in is that they tried to make the song their own, and not just do it the way The Beatles had. I always feel a cover should be at least a little different from the original, or what's the point? The four Beatles cover tunes I am going to hit you with (though in each instance you should listen to The Beatles version first) are: With A Little Help From My Friends by Joe Cocker, preferably his performance at Woodstock, And I Love Her by Nirvana, From Me To You by Walk Off The Earth and Tell Me Why by April Wine! Enjoy the journey!

    • @PastorOfMuppets74

      Duane wrote the whole arrangement. Picket had never heard the song n famously said "I ain't singing no song bout no damn Jew!" 🤣🤣🤣 Duane had to talk him into it. I'm just surprised this is the song that introduced Duane Allman to the world...not a single mention 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @Guide1089
    @Guide1089 ปีที่แล้ว

    Duane had to work on Wilson for a while before Wilson agreed to do it. Wilson thought the song was overdone because everyone covered it, it seemed to him. Eric Clapton had his manager find out who was the guitarist with the slide was on the song.
    You spoke just about 20 seconds too early about missing the background effects and I loved watching your reaction when he turned it on!

    You just heard one the greatest guitarists, Duane Allman, and the great voice of Wilson Pickett. Duane did all the arrangements on this song while everyone else in the studio went to dinner. In Muscle Shoals they didn't like long haired hippie freaks mixing with the regular people. I love this version. If you haven't done the Allman Brothers Band, I suggest you start with Whipping Post, Live at The Fillmore.

    My personal "Best-Beatles-Cover-List: 1. Joe Cocker / With a little help from my friends 2. Vanilla Fudge / Ticket to ride 3. Lucy in the sky with diamonds / The Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus, Moby 4. Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett (and there are some really good cover on youtube from hobby- or semi-professional musicians). The Pickett cover does not reach the width of the original. Yes, he could have made more of the 2nd half of the song. Only him. Other singer can only dream from such a cover. Imagine Pickett, 6, 7 minutes "on fire". I don't know why he made the second half so short. It's interesting that Pickett's "Hey Jude" LP is also only 31 minutes long. Probably a quick shot. "Guys," Hey Jude "is a huge hit," let's quickly make an album around the song. So the rest of the record was filled with average song material, except "Steppenwolf's" "Born to be wild".

    I was born n bred in Macon, GA. Home to the Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Little Richard, Zac Brown, Jason Aldean, and in the 60s n 70s was also home to Capricorn Records that signed Marshall Tucker, etc so I'm dripping with southern soul. I pass that "REMEMBER DUANE ALLMAN" every day.
    OK. My guy. I don't think you understand the implications of this song. Soul songs like this were a dime a dozen during that time. The one., and ONLY reason it's celebrated like it is, is cuz this is the first time Duane Allman was "heard" or recognized, and it was a Beatles cover. That was just released lol. Show my guy some love. Wilson has 100 other soul songs. There's thousands of soul songs w better voices. I just think you swung n missed on this one bro. No offense. He died at 24 and is STILL considered one of the top 10 players. Trust me, nuttin against Wilson, but God drives pastors. Duane Allman drove Wilson Picket in this song and he wasn't mentioned ONCE. He's the reason ppl are requesting the Song! Like I said Wilson was awesome, but this was the discovery of a virtuoso. That's why this song is so significant. Jus askin for a lil more love. I mean they showed him in the video 25 times and you mention the BASS but not that screaming guitar pushing Wilson higher n higher?? Come on bruh lol
