Gary is such a sweet and talented man. He’s a major influence on my own music. I could have watched this interview for hours. I have so many more questions.
Good interview: The guy appears to be a fan of all these people and has no negative agenda, just wants to have a chat about their careers and especially the music.
Terry Brereton He's a great interviewer and genuinely into these artist's music BUT for God sake man do up your bottom shirt button. It's very off putting seeing his pale white gut hanging out, particularly when trying to conduct a serious interview.
+theselector yeah me three noticed. Not to judge a book by its cover...especially these day,s but he looks like someone who would be very happy at a Led zeppelin concert, much less an interest in electronic music
I have never met gorgeous Gary would love to though I saw him for the very first time so amazing I bought his album intruder and fortunately he had signed it he is so worth going to see in concert wow
No wonder I've had a crush on him for 40 years. What an incredible man! The first music that ever got me through depressing times as well as good times and he still inspires me to be my most creative! Lovely interview! Lovely man!
In 79 maybe 80, was the 1st time I saw Gary on SNL (back when SNL took chances with new artist) his performance made an impact, inspiring, new, fresh, original, a true artist, thanks Gary!!!
Replicas. Legendary and seminal LP for me back in 79 as a 17 year old. Still play it from time to time. And it’s still Tubeway Army for me over Gary Numan.
Gary put on the best live show I've ever seen, even in a tiny student union. Totally blew my mind. This was a fantastic interview and credit to John for setting a really relaxed tone.
Mr. Doran, Hands down this is the best interview of Gary Numan I have ever seen! I loved him and his music before but now, because of this interview, I appreciate him 1000x more! Your questions were thought provoking and well thought out, they even seemed to surprise Mr.Numan from time to time. I would also like to add that I have twin sons that are Autistic that relate quite well to this type of music including GNs music. perhaps that comes from my love of this music but it is intriguing.
I like the interviewer john doran. Ive seen him get a lot of stick in comments for the way he looks or talks. Hes one of my favourite music writers. And hes a Manchester lad!!! :)
Saw Tubeway Army in late 78 as a punk band in a place called Bones in Reading [ it was a mad house ] supporting 999 and I was 15 , Also met Gary a few years ago at a air show , He Flys a old Harvad ww2 plane .
Gary Numans keeping dark UK music well and truly alive. Hes a true pioneer. Also feeling other Brits like Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, Atoms For Peace, Unkle, Portishead, Burial, Kosheen, Allflaws
I’ve never saw an interview with Gary Numan but fortunately this was the first because it was a very good one. This guy is the equivalent of an indie interviewer in the sense of his format and questions and being able to keep it as a conversation more so than questions written down on an index card. He riffs!!
Great video great interviewer was so fucking happy when i saw just the name gary human pop up in my subscription, can't wait to see who else you do really hope to get to see Vince Clarke.
Many of the lyrics on Tubeway Army and Replicas were lifted straight from "Naked Lunch" by William S. Burroughs. I've never heard anyone mention this fact ever anywhere. I seem to be the only person in the world who has noticed.
I have read ' Naked Lunch ' its a good book, and highly amusing. I very much doubt Gary Numan has. He made some good tunes though. Could you give some examples?
Gary is nothing. Short of awesome. He has no ego at all. Poetic ubergenius, awesome musician, he says things in an ungodly perfect and human way. God love him for being able to lyric what we all feel... Proof that poetry is the highest art.
OMG, how the hell does Numan know about a brazillian TV show? I am brazilian, a fan of that program`s presenter (as most brazilians are) and also a Numan fan! No way!
Now speaking of ghosts my precious mum and myself saw a ghost years ago we were at a cafe called old mother Hubbards. My mum and myself suddenly saw a white skirt go past us while we were sat at the table when I actually saw the ghost it looked like an old woman she was dressed in a long white dress her hair was piled up into a bun she smiled at me went up a staircase and suddenly disappeared
Not quite sure where you're coming from with this line of questioning. If you are suggesting that the hair for his original transplant, came from his own arse, meaning that technically speaking it was all "his own" hair then let me remind you that this transplant was a failure, hence the need for his later and presumably still current weave. Sorry if I've offended anyone but if you're so shallow that you can't begin to contemplate your musical heroes without a full head of "hair", then that's hardly my problem now is it?!
I saw Gary Numan once, years ago, in a small dance hall. IT WAS AMAZING.
Gary is such a sweet and talented man. He’s a major influence on my own music. I could have watched this interview for hours. I have so many more questions.
I just LOVE Gary Numan so much! Changed my life back in 1979...
Came here from the Mark E Smith interview, such a good interviewer and always liked Gary, what a nice bloke. Going to watch more of these
good to see an interviewer actually have a genuine interest in the person hes interviewing. don't come across that too often.
John Doran is an excellent journalist

+theselector I agree. He does do good interviews though and his approach to the artists wins me over :)

Aden Blackman and he’s picking all of my absolute favourite artists to interview!!!
i like gary, he's one of life's good guys
He said some very nasty things about the late, great Mick Karn. Haven't decided if I should forgive him for that.
+MisAnnThorpe Like what?
+Gat Decor I'm guessing he read Mick Karns' book "Japan & Self Existence"
The ghost story was really great Gary seems s nice genuine guy Good interview
what an absolutely lovely bloke!
really good interview, gary numan seems a great guy [:
I remember buying "Cars" 45 at target! Still a great song!!!
Those early records are brilliant! I miss that period of music.
Gary is an absolute gentleman. Once a Numaniod always a Numanoid ❤️🖤❤️🖤
Saw Tubeway Army in late 78 as a punk band in a place called Bones in Reading [ it was a mad house ] supporting 999 and I was 15 , Also met Gary a few years ago at a air show , He Flys a old Harvad ww2 plane .

Ballard also, everyone from the late late 70's were also "lifting" from him
TT L that's cause everyone has heard of Gary numan
Not naked lunch
I have read ' Naked Lunch ' its a good book, and highly amusing. I very much doubt Gary Numan has. He made some good tunes though. Could you give some examples?

Oh yes speaking of caravans I used to go for holidays in my grandad caravan years ago
That syrup is something else
Gary Numan, Adam Ant and Bryan Ferry are all very well, but what about Kate Bush, Alison Moyet etc? There are British Mistresses as well!

Fair play gents 👍
Who is the actor at 4.10? On the tip of my tongue.

are friend electric one of need for speed carbons best songs
Dogey Doge Doge Are Friends Electric is one of the best songs ever.
Numan comes across as being so natural that you almost forget that his hair isn't all his own. I think I'd like him.
Ann Thorpe How do u know??
Numan's hair transplant/weave is common knowledge.
Not quite sure where you're coming from with this line of questioning. If you are suggesting that the hair for his original transplant, came from his own arse, meaning that technically speaking it was all "his own" hair then let me remind you that this transplant was a failure, hence the need for his later and presumably still current weave. John Doran sounds so high. Either that or really depressed
The 9 dislikes are from colonists
