Right then, what can we learn from this?
-Take each day one step at a time. It's all good and well to make plans for the future, but if that seems too overwhelming, just focus on the here and now. Learn from the past, but don't dwell on it. You only get this day once.
-Don't ignore your body's signals when you need something. It might seem socially unacceptable to some to prioritize your needs, even in a desperate situation, but it's better to look after yourself immediately than become overwhelmed by all the needs you've ignored. Listen to your hunger, your exhaustion, and follow it to the best of your ability.
-In a similar vein, if you think you hate everyone, try eating something.
-Reflect on your own choices in habits. If you've had one bad interview, one bad relationship, anything of the sort, then you've just had a bad experience. It happens sometimes. But if "all your exes were crazy," you need to reflect on yourself, because you are the common denominator.
-Just because you or anyone else looks like they have their life together doesn't mean they do. People have layers, and you mostly only ever see the outside. Don't judge your inner layers based on someone's outer layers, and when it comes down to it, prioritize nurturing your inner layers over your outer layers, because you layers grow around each other. What's outside can thrive if it grows around something healthy.
-Don't set yourself up for failure. Even if you think "I don't deserve dry socks," even if you think "I'll probably step in a puddle anyways," don't cause yourself trouble before it finds you. Invest in yourself.
-Just because you were raised in a certain environment, or just because you're used to a certain setting, does not mean it's right for you. If you hate something that's everywhere in your current environment, you're allowed to leave. Yes, it might be difficult, but there's no reason to stay in a place that does not let you thrive.
-If a task seems overwhelming, break it down into smaller steps. Don't spend the whole time trying to look at the big picture, don't jump ahead to your next task, just focus on the here and now. Move quickly, cut sloppily if you must. Something really worth doing is also worth being done half-assed.
-A lot of advertising goes into what you're told you're supposed to do. That 12-step skincare routine, that 8-step program to reinventing your life... sometimes, it's best to break down these things into their essential components and decide what you truly need to keep.
-Again, in a similar vein, you're going to receive a few bullshit answers here and there when you're looking for help. People like to complicate things; it makes them look like they know what they're talking about. But don't be afraid to ask for help anyway when you need it, because there are also people who will gladly show you the way.
-This last one doesn't really need any explanation, I don't think. Make time for what really matters.
