As someone who works pretty deep in the manufacturing parts world, Chinesium poses a big problem. Chinese Manufacturing is getting VERY good, I'm willing to bet you can find covers from a different manufacturing place in china that is just as good as the GB ones. I know this because my company wanted to make a video just like this, but some of the Chinese products ended up being good enough that we thought it might actually encourage others to buy the knock-off. GB is making this video because as someone who constantly scans the alibaba/taobao/aliexpress markets, I have come across a lot of GB branded stuff. I enforce the trademarks of my company (or at least try) on these Chinese markets and every time I successfully take down one manufacturer, 2 more pop up. Funnily enough, my buddy with a 23' R1 just bought the Aliexpress GB Covers, and my other friends with a 23' R1 as well bought the real ones. We could not tell the difference, we did the bend test and everything. Outside of very slight design differences, it was impossible to tell. China can manufacture what other countries can for a small fraction of the cost. If they haven't perfected the product yet, they will. The worst part is, google is allowing companies like Aliexpress to bids. Customers who search for GB Racing Engine Covers are now seeing the Aliexpress ones because Aliexpress is paying to be there. Hopefully, countries will start imposing very harsh tariffs on Chinese goods so help stateside companies stay in business. My buddy purchased a full titanium exhaust for $400 shipped from Aliexpress and it was spot on flawless. Fitment was perfect, welded were fantastic, bends were perfect. Titanium was high grade. An exhaust that would easily be sold for $1700-2000 here in the states.
I wanted to make this video and asked GB for some support to make sure the information shared was accurate. They supplied the lab results and the Chinesium cover set which they purchased. Having searched on some market place sites it is clear there are several manufacturers offering these counterfeit covers manufactured from stolen designs. My expectations would be there could be a variance in quality of the counterfeits. For the consumer that decides to support the trolls who stole from someone they are rolling the dice as they are not guaranteed to receive the same level of protection they would get from Genuine GB Covers. If you are installing these on a new R1, ZX-10R, S1000RR, etc... that is a whole lot of risk to save a couple hundred bucks. Taking the quality of the counterfeit out of the conversation by purchasing from someone who stole the design you are supporting a thief. - Van
Buy cheap, buy twice. I got my bike used, previous owner had a chinesium exhaust. Exhaust was obnoxiously loud and the "carbon fiber" coat rubbed off on the can. I replaced it with a full yoshi exhaust. Not loud at idle, but loud in the right parts (WOT). The bike runs smoother since the can is longer an larger in diameter (better air flow and backflow pressures). Also was not as smelly (fueling was not overly rich). Additionally, there were chinesium CRG bar end mirrors that were not curved. The mirrors rattled lose after riding half a year after ownership. It seems like they used some shitty binding glue to glue the mirror to the mount. I replaced them with real CRGs and had no issues since then (going on 2+ years, and I put double the miles compared to the original owner). The mirrors are also curved (better coverage)and the adjustability is much better. I got ASV levers. Being a dumbass, I dropped my bike and broke my adjuster knob. I sent in the broken lever and ASV sent me a whole new replacement free of charge. They even let change my lever color. The levers are anodized and CNC'd out of block aluminum. It will never snap in half. When you support the good companies, the cost goes towards research towards a good product, warranty to cover defects, and funds to have real customer service when things don't work out. You won't get that with these copied products and you only hurt the businesses.
When you have the opportunity to compare the genuine article to the counterfeit the difference is pretty clear. The counterfeit cracked pretty easy and the GB just flexed a bit. - Van
This is solid. Would be relatively easy to run a basic slide test with each. Some chain. A weight. Cover side down. Run both at the same time with the same weight and let them slide for the same duration/distance and then check the wear. If you do a thing like this in the future … that may work for you.
End of the day I feel like the bases were covered pretty well here. While I could see some benefit to the slide test you are still not answering the question of how well they will manage impact energy. The global message here is simple, if you want to save some money there are better ways to do that than installing Chinesium knock off parts on a two wheeled vehicle with the hope they will perform like the genuine article. In this case if they do not perform as well it has the potential to cost you thousands more. That risk is 100% not worth saving $100. With GB you are getting a quality product manufactured in the UK that is backed by a ton of research and development. This is clear in this video where the counterfeit covers lack all the evolution and improvements seen with the genuine covers. Also important to note the lab tests find subpar materials not up to the task are used in the counterfeit. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear I think the suggestion is that for an effective ad you don't just need to TELL the customer that its better, SHOWING them is more effective. A test of hitting each with a hammer from a set distance on a donor/dead bike or just flat on the table, and then showing how the abrade differently would sell many more than telling me that its got the potential to act incorrectly. From a materials science perspective, if they are both injection molded glass reinforced nylon I want to see what the actual difference is. I NEVER advocate for counterfeit products, but what I'm saying is to at least stand on each of em so we can watch the shit one break or something. I'm like that annoying English teacher. Don't tell us - show us.
@@potatotr33 I showed you 2 GB Racing covers crashed on our own bikes. This isn’t an attempt to sell anything. The goal here is to articulate the fact there is a difference between the counterfeit and genuine. We personally participate in the sport in a way others in the space do not and share what we learn along the way. If you don’t see value in it then don’t watch it.
@@sportbiketrackgear I'm on your side. I want to watch the video. I like STG and have always been treated well and with respect. I wanted to give tips as someone who works professionally in media/entertainment who also rides at the track. I think you make a more compelling video would be if you can find crashed fake covers that show that they are inferior. I'm not saying you did a bad job, in fact the opposite, I'm saying here's how it could be even better. On the topic of it not selling anything: Frankly, this is a video on the STG channel, with named products. It may not be actively trying to sell these products, but it is promoting them and garnering goodwill about STG. I LOVE stg, yall have taken care of me for years, but don't tell me you're not promoting this product in a video telling me that you put (the same cases i have on my bike) on all of your personal race bikes. Its a great endorsement, but its still an endorsement on the STG page.
@@potatotr33ohh don’t give any feedback to Van. It’s ridiculous. Guy is a sleez ball. Every chance I come back to one of these videos after a long break I see him doing the same shit in the comments. Let’s just say there’s a reason he has a high turnaround for employees lmaoo.
Was awesome seeing you guys at Laguna again this year! I was the fat guy that walked up and simply said "You Can't Make This Shit Up" (Saturday Morning) after saying hi to max and wish you all the best of luck! Always great to see you guys!
i fully agree with everything here but the $70 for a cheap one is better than not buying anything at all because the real one is $500 (cad). great video!
For sure the counterfeit is better than nothing. Then all you are left with is by purchasing the counterfeit you are supporting a thief. If this happens to all of the brands that make our sport better and we choose to support them over the brands that invested in all the research and development eventually could be left with only the sub par counterfeits. Having been in this industry for a few decades now I can tell you I have not met anyone who is getting rich in it like we see in other industries where the margins are massive. This industry is full of passionate, hard working people who love what they do. If money is your primary motivation this is the wrong industry to be working in. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgearwell maybe they did not get rich, but definitely they do a good profit. $420 CAD for 4 peaces of nylon parts for my xsr900, seems a bit crazy.
Brian, thanks for this video. First, I wasn’t aware there are knockoffs like this on the market. Second, I’ve considered GB covers but never pulled the trigger on a purchase. This video is very helpful. Finally, your videos have helped inform many of my purchase decisions, which I appreciate, and they can be quite entertaining, too (like your “You can’t make this shit up”). Top-notch through and through.
The counterfeit are inferior, you just got lucky. Having seen all of the shit I have seen over the past few decades there is a 0.0% chance I would bolt any Chinesium shit to one of my bikes. - Van
Great info and perspective Van. Was thinking of getting knock off covers to save money on my budget track bike build but I will definitely be going genuine now.
I will and always have bought from you because of how much you care, and it shows. I’ve watched you over the years as your son grew up and you got older 😆. We were at Laguna a few years back when he crashed at the corkscrew and man you were PISSED. lol. I came with the fam to say hi to you and get my free shirt, realized the mood you were in and let you be. You were gracious enough to thank me for my business. Even though you just had to spend god knows how many hours repairing the bike. I’m a small time contractor been around for 22 years. I get you. There will always be some who know and want quality, and some who don’t. It’s in every trade and every business these days. Don’t let that get to you. I think the real problem is you’re realizing your son is getting faster and taller than you , and so now you’re taking it out on China 🤣🤣🤣 ps. Kills me when people dont understand that it’s not just freaking plastic, like actually understand what tensile strength means and abrasion resistance in materials. 🤦🏽 did I mention that your son is faster than you?
I've used GB racing sliders for almost 5 years, I had been covered in some minor and major slides. The original pieces are the best, protected the engine, pump and whatnot. I will keep using them, pretty reliable!
And here I thought this was going to be another edition of "You can't make this **** Up". Very Informative. I don't have GB racing on my Daytona, but I do have genuine Triumph Covers.
It makes me wonder about mine now. I have a 2018 Triumph Street Triple 765 and I went with the factory Triumph ones. They look and feel identical to the GB and the description says they’re made from long fiber nylon but they’re MUCH cheaper ($130 vs $250) than the GB racing. I’ve seen guys on the Triumph forums have good results after a crash with them so I went that route. They’re not knock offs either because I got them from a Triumph dealer, not some shady site like Amazon, eBay or temu.
There's are levels of fakes including some that you couldn't tell the difference and will likely perform identically. You probably got the good ones. This video demonstrated the worst ones.
Triumph has their own accessory line that include some excellent parts. I did a quick Google search for "2018 triumph street triple 765 engine covers" and found the Triumph set being sold for $230-132 for what appears to be the same set. Looking at the images they appear a little less robust than the GB Racing set for the same bike. - Van
Brian’s videos are so much fun to watch…always spot on factual and super funny at the same time…I buy everything at SBTG….I wish I could buy the blue polo shirts they wear at the track…super cool
Thank you for watching and for your business! We do have some of the team shirts on the site. Here is a link: www.sportbiketrackgear.com/stg-originals/
Cheers Brian. good vid as always - a perhaps obvious point to note is that it pays to buy from a reputable store. Certain on-line marketplaces, as you say, can sell rip oiffs for similar prices, passing tthem off as genuine... leaving the buyer with an unintentional sub par purchase / product... its one thing buying crap on purpose, its another thing buying junk thinking its the rea ldeal. Take care man.
I'd never support counterfeit, but that said, given the extreme price difference for technically such a simple (and like inexpensive to produce) component, I'd be tempted to try and see if there is a middle ground, at least for street riding. I also think part of the problem is both the fact that there are cheap knock offs that don't do much, but also that the real ones are pricing themselves nearly out of the market (eg. at $500 that could end up being essentially 10% the cost of an entire bike).
A typical full set of GB Racing covers (3-4 in the set) run between $300 - $400. Pricing for parts like this as well as most of the other items we sell are set by the manufacturer based on a formula they have developed factoring in costs and R&D etc... IMO if they could remain profitable while selling them for less they would do so. I have been doing this for a long time and have not met any brands operating in the aftermarket that have a house in the Hamptons. - Van
I hope you have some crash examples with the Chinese version... Otherwise it is just speculation. It can be the same material as GB racing and would provide the same coverage. While I am not saying to buy the cheaper version.
As stated in the video the counterfeit covers were sent to a lab to be analyzed, they are not produced from the same materials which are necessary for them to do their job. If you like I would be happy to order some Chinesium covers for your bike an crash test them on your bike to see how they hold up. - Van
To be fair we have had good results with Woodcraft aluminum and GB. Over the years I have used (and Max has crashed) primarily GB Racing on our bikes. There are two reasons for this: 1) GB covers more of the OEM cover than the aluminum protectors so there is less rash on the engine when the bike slides into a gravel trap. 2) The GB covers have some additives in their mix to increase elasticity which I feel manages impact better than a full aluminum could. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! - Van
Sup Van , i follow your channel for a long time, but in this case i think its missing a durability test... For example, last time someone compared aliexpress lock vs quad lock, aliexpress lock won.... We are talking about a 250€ diference here, i would like to see a durability test on both
As you likely understand quite well but many others won't... aliexpress isn't ebay nor amazon. Aliexpress is basically the only place to get quality stuff from China. The example shown in this video was obvious crap and lacked the "meat" around the wear indicator holes that the original has. All the knockoff's I've seen (from aliexpress) are night and day better in construction than the one here and are basically indistinguishable to the original. I mentioned these in another video that there is a need for an intermediate level of product for non-track use. The aliexpress ones nicely fill the gap that GB racing leave in the market. The only problem is that the chinese put the GB racing name on them... If they left them unbranded...
0.0% chance I am putting these on my bike for Max to crash. I have offered to crash someone else's bike with the Chinesium covers on, but no one has accepted to date. In this video we do share the independent lab results that show the covers are made from sub par materials as compared to the GB and also share our personal "real world" experience with the product. I give them my endorsement because they have worked very well for us so they earned it. (Full disclosure I paid for the crashed covers on the table and replaced the ones that came on the bike when it was built) Thanks for watching! - Van
The only Chinesium part I always buy…radiator protectors…every single one fit perfectly for 1/2 the cost. Brian is correct, about 95% of the stuff is junk
I did buy this counterfeit product Engine Covers for my Ducati Monster 1100 (2009). My apologies to GB Racing, but I did not have other choice as they don't produce engine covers for my model anymore. I looked on R&G and they don't produce alternator case cover which I needed the most. Unfortunately I did not have other choice, as my bike was already low sided. So better having Chinese ones than nothing. But for sure it is better to change bots for quality one. My second motorcycle GSX-R 1000 K1, also don't support anyone, so I have to find at least some covers.
The real thing is a bullet resistant vest, the cheap one is a turkey pan painted VEST. Think of it as a brick house vs a mobile home as a tornado shelter, which do you want?
They use long fibers for strength with a plastic resin that offers some flexibility. For sure it is more technical than that brief description but I can tell you we have used these on several bikes (many of which have been crashed while racing) and feel these work very well. - Van
So what would be some advantages of gb covers over say woodcraft covers? I guess weight? but wouldn’t the aluminum with the stainless bolt on plate hold up better than a composite cover? I go back and forth on which to buy so was curious your pros and cons. Thanks Brian for another great video!
We have also had good results with the Woodcraft engine covers and protectors. The Woodcraft is for sure harder to wear through (metal v composite) and the GB will do a bit better job managing impact, transferring less to the case. Both are good products IMO. - Van
Morals and ethics aside they are also not the same as the genuine article. It is interesting how comfortable some are with purchasing something manufactured from stolen designs that is also shit. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear if it's just an engine cover that protects against scratches why does it matter if it's high quality? I don't think people should support fake shit but cheap chinese stuff that isn't a direct fake is good for people who can't get anything else. It's not like they were gonna buy the real one at first 😂, if the prices are anything like I'm assuming.
Thanks for this Video Brian, I was wondering how big of a quality difference is and safe to say my bike is worth more than 40 bucks for a cheap Chinese chase that may or may not protect.
What brand of down force winglets would you recommend for a turbocharged Vespa 125 ? Also, should I fit a 200 section rear slick tyre for improved handling ?

And what could the implications of using Chinese levers guards cause me as well if you know the answer to that thanks a lot in advance
Knock off lever guards are not as critical as control levers IMO. I would leave the OEM levers in place and buy a quality set like Lightech (or any other good brand you see of reputable websites) if you want aftermarket. - Van
If I know my suite size and I can fit a 48 and it's a hair loose what do you suggest on getting it a little tighter not much but just a fraction of size like how the rider in the start of your videos suit fits? Sorry I know it's completely unrelated but I'd like a professional opinion and you seem very knowledgeable and I'm not wearing any pads under my suit think that would tighten it up just that hair
@@sportbiketrackgear one other thing since I see you are actually involved with your channel and it seems I'll get a reply where's the best place to get track parts for a 2013 ninja 300 and will 400 parts cross over to some degree?
When you buy the genuine GB Racing product you get a a better product and support a quality brand. If everyone buys knock off shit all we will be left with is knock off shit. - Van
You're paying for the difference in quality control across the board. With the GB unit, there may be a 99.9% chance of no catastrophic failure during a crash. The Chinese unit may be at 95%. Pay your money and take your chances.
The best is when someone bolts the Chinesium covers to their 20k bike. IMO most believe the knock offs are 100% the same as the genuine article. They are not and that is the reason we shared this. - Van
Personally I had the GB racing protections for my 1290 super duke, frankly very disappointed with the fit finish, how the screws take into support to cover ! Their qualities... apparently there are two versions for my bike, the ones in your video are the higher end! S2 version I contacted gbracing regarding my problem, they sent me a complete kit from England!
I do not believe they have a second tier line for the engine covers. End of the day it sounds like there was an issue and they made it right. Good luck getting the Chinesium counterfeit dudes to do that. Thanks for watching and for sharing. - Van
My issue is the hardware that came with the Chinese set. 1 bolt broke and it wasn't even tourqued. I took them off and said NOPE. Took me 2 hours to get broken bolt out of bolt hole
I’d only be interested in the difference of material used. Otherwise, it’s the same injection mold, regardless of where it’s made. But in order to be convinced of your argument, I would need to see you actually demonstrate this on camera with some actual testing. For instance, break them both in the same manner and show us the broken surface of both without editing the video. Subject them both to the same repeatable abrasive testing. I wouldn’t be surprised if GB sold their old tooling to China themselves.
I would be interested to know if any of my own assumptions are true or false, if you care to investigate further. I was very interested in this topic, but feel that I wasn’t shown any useful information.
As stated in the video the counterfeit covers were sent to an independent lab. The knock offs use a PA6 base vs. the PA66 base which offers greater tensile strength, greater dimensional stability, greater abrasion resistance, higher intermittent temperature resistance. Genuine covers use 60% long glass fiber which gives the products its strength against abrasion on the track. Counterfeits contain only 35% of SHORT glass fiber. This means the counterfeits are extremely weak, nothing special or strong about them. The genuine covers also have additives which provide elasticity to help manage impact the counterfeit do not. 0.0% chance GB is selling their old tooling to a Chinese manufacturer. GB manufacturers in the UK. If this does not convince you I would like to offer crashing your bike with some counterfeit covers in it to see how well they work. Willing to do this for you at no charge. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear Of course I zoned out for the important part of the video. Thank you for directing me back to review. That’s what I was curious about and why I was excited to see this video. I am still curious how they get their hands on the tooling to manufacture them. But I agree, and would expect the cheaper knock offs to be made of inferior materials.
@@sportbiketrackgear I'm going to try this one last time since it seems you don't understand the original question. I'm asking why are you heavy on the Asian references? Chinesium whatever it's kind of funny but when you respond to other people and using noodles or soy sauce it makes me think you got a problem with asians. Do you understand?
@@skyentistcowboy Once again, this is real simple. In the case of these GB covers the counterfeit covers are produced in China by Chinese people who stole the design. Love your clips man. As a fellow motorcycle parts retailer I too see some right con jobs. Over the pond here in the UK the likes of Alipizzaexpress is killing things. Nearly every month I have someone saying look at this Brembo copy I've bought for a 10th of the cost of genuine. I always say you don't see anyone going down Bray Hill at the TT using cheap Chinese knock offs. We in the UK are being hit hard by scammers with stolen cards at the moment. Never had it so bad. That video is a solid piece of work. The goal with our videos is to show you what we have learned over decades of working in the space, participating in the sport and racing at the highest level in the US. To shoot product testing videos like that for this industry would require more time and effort than it would be able to support. (There are a lot more chainsaws sold annually than sportbikes) I feel our video is a good piece of work that includes someone who knows his shit, parts we crashed our bikes while racing and lab testing results. Thanks for watching. - Van
Usually I agree with you get what you pay for, however, my chineseium gb covers not only look great I was impressed with how sturdy they felt. Haven’t had to test how good they are thankfully I am confident they will work just fine. I definitely would buy them again for my next bike
Having the opportunity to compare them and review the results from the lab tests it is clear these are not the same. I applied some pressure to the Chinesium cover and it cracked where all the GB did was flex a bit (to be fair I have applied more pressure to the GB now and done it several times with no failure). You are not getting the same level of performance or quality with the counterfeit with these covers. The savings is 100% not worth the risk in this case. - Van
I made a comment yesterday that youtube never posted. Probably because I mentioned the 2 retailers that you mentioned in the video and the quality of products from those 2 platforms. I expect that they're well paying advertisers to get that level of protection. Regardless I have commented about the clone covers previously as an example of where the fakes fill a gap in the market that the manufacturer of the genuine product refuses to fill... That is providing a reasonably priced product for the average street rider who really just needs tip over and low speed slide protection. They can call is GB Street by GB racing. Do they do it? No. Thankfully your video stuck to the issue of the products being for track use so no one can question the fakes you showed being unsuitable although lets face it. The ones you have there are not suitable for street either. I will admit that I was surprised by the poor quality of the fake you displayed. I've seen the fake covers from aliexpress and they're indistinguishable from the originals so the fakes from the 2 retailers you mentioned must be an especially low level on the quality scale. There's a good chance that the quality copies from aliexpress would actually provide the appropriate level of protection needed for track use. It would need a test that no one is willing to do though. The real shame though is that those clones are falsely branded. If they were unbranded then there wouldn't be an issue. When it comes to buying stuff from China there are levels of quality. Your iPhone for example is made there. I expect that most of your viewers when they think of buying from China are shopping on the 2 retail platforms you mention and also maybe the third new one starting with "T". The reality is that those platforms scrape the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality. Aliexpress generally has better quality stuff but you have to read the reviews to make sure you're not buying stuff that belongs on the other stores. IMO with any product that screws into your engine block you should inspect the bolts carefully and replace any that have flaws in the threads or in the finish. That includes the bolts that came with the genuine covers. Those threaded bolt holes in the engine block should be treated like the irreplaceable things they are and only quality bolts should be screwed into them. Personally I will buy half again as many bolts as I need on the basis that I will discard a few. My garbage bin has seen plenty of $2+ high tensile bolts sitting in it due to surface finish flaws or a dented thread.
Some of the best products in the world are manufactured in China, these counterfeit covers are not on that list. This is a stolen design with stolen branding manufactured from sub par materials. - Van
These covers are a whole lot more than just some molded plastic. As compared to aluminum these are able to manage impact energy better while manage abrasion. While the aluminum will for sure outperform in a slide they do not do much with impact. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear that definitely makes sense. I'm sure that's all true. I'm just curious what you're paying for. Like they're more expensive than some rearsets. Machining takes so much more time and effort.
GB sent them to an independent lab for testing and I share those results. If you would like to see the Chinesium counterfeit covers crash tested buy some or your bike and I will crash it for you at no charge. Hope they hold up good... - Van
I just don't understand some people who spend a lot on the bike then cheap out with the counterfeit stuff. Plenty of videos people buying BMW GS or brand new Street Triple then they order accessories from AliExpress. Doesn't add up. I mean why would you, for real? Spending 10k+ on the bike then want to save a hundred. Seriously. Making a video of it on TH-cam is just the cherry on top. If you cannot afford the 100-500 extra on a 10k bike, you cannot afford the 10k bike.
With all of the counterfeit products you lose all of the research, development, engineering and product liability you get when you purchase the genuine article. The last place anyone should look to save money is counterfeit parts for their two wheeled vehicle. Buying this shit is like asking your heart surgeon to install a knock off pace maker. - Van
I checked myself, legit GB Racing covers for my bike are $373 on STG, and $41 on Ali. Anyone should know they are going to get a cheap knock-off with that price difference. I'll also bet people that buy this junk try to get support from GB Racing when they don't perform as expected.
Bingo! Someone that realises that both knockoff's and clones exist in the current market place. Referring to the higher quality knockoffs as clones is a nice way to distinguish them from the lower quality knockoff's
Manufacturing is the cheapest part of the process. There is a ton of cost in the R&D of a quality product that has to be covered by sales of said product over time after it has went to market. A spot on copy is the worst case scenario for any company for sure. In the case of these covers the Chinesium are using sub par materials that are less effective than the genuine article. If too many people choose to purchase the counterfeit products over those produced by the brand who developed them we will lose those brands. Once that happens we will need someone new to come in to fill the void as the Chinesium will need someone else to steal from. The right way to combat this is to not feed the counterfeiters. - Van
Your bike, your choice. End of the day by purchasing the counterfeit Chinesium covers you are supporting someone who stole from someone else and is using sub par materials. IMO there are better ways to save money. - Van
Nothing wrong with making a mistake on buying Chinese crap. Your cash your choice …. Everything is wrong however with supporting companies who sell products pretending they are someone else. Some younger unaware riders waste their cash on fake exhausts or other random higher price parts. There’s a slip on that closely mimics akra and he’ll I almost made a mistake on private sale. Research your parts if they are a deal too good to be true. I never buy fake anything. Them Chinamon should sell covers but don’t put someone’s name on it.
It would be a lot less fucked up if they did not use the GB Racing logo etc... End of the day the purpose of this video is to let riders know those cheap covers on the market place sites are not the genuine article nor are they as good. If they choose to purchase them it is still a relatively free country. - Van

If supporting a company that literally stole a design and manufactured it with sub par materials seems like a good idea to you God Bless. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear exactly. I have bought the plastic ones and rhey cracked before even being in a crash just from being on the bike and vibrating. The composite materials that GB uses is freaking tough and will take a lot of abuse!
Funny that any thing from China is dangerous ( American way of thinking) .i still take the Chinese one because of the cost 😂 and don’t forget ur iPhone is made in china. Thx for the video.
The issue here is the fact this is a counterfeit product made with different materials being sold to people expecting it to be the same as the genuine article. Some of the best products in the world are manufactured in China. Tons of the apparel for some of the best moto specific brands is made in China. - Van
I need to buy one set and I'm in trouble because I don't know what to choose. Of course I have the necessity to use a top level screw for the engine to limit any damage....Concerning the polymer I'm quite sure the quality could be the same or closed... I'm wondering where GB racing manufacture the protection (england or china?)...GB racing genuine parts are very expensive...I could understand the company has the necessity to recover the cost of molds that changes for each kind of bike...but the price are too far. We need to support gb racing due to the fact without the company we will have no copy from china market and I'll be on troble if Gb racing decided to close the safety protection dept. I hope to receice a discount...but we need to support OE original equipment companies.
The main problem is they're all a lazy copy of the real GB Racing ones. They just created a mold of the real ones. The China ones couldn't even be bothered to come up with their own shapes.
So i chose the Chinese ones, yea maybe sub par but i didnt buy it to protect my engine from a crash insurance us there for that. I mainly purchased them to protect from rock an road debris. Mine also had the wear indicators on the inside. Felt pretty rugged an sturdy to me. Not all counterfeits ate the same. I would be scared to drop my bike or even a low side an be worried anything past that its a insurance write off unless its a race bike. If you have the money sure buy the expensive ones but if you dont these half to be better then nothing. An i get the supporting criminals but whos real criminals charging 500 bucks for plastics made to get destroyed anyway??
GB racing are over priced plastic imo, that shouldnt cost as much. A set cost $265 vs $40 china. Thankfully my bike came with GB covers, and I crashed the stator side. I didnt replace with GB I went with vortex aluminum bracket. I then crash tested the vortex lol the vortex absorbed better and looks like I can reuse it.
No, this is just what shit costs in todays market. Trust me when I tell you no one is getting rich making GB Racing Engine covers. A 24oz Monster is over $4 now. - Van
Negative, this guy is just sharing all the shit he has learned over decades of street riding, track riding and professional racing. Zero compensation from GB. - Van
I don't believe a word you say and it seems that you have no knowledge of what the Chinese do with Western designs... You also show us a broken end of the piece as if you had put all your effort into breaking it behind the scenes.
For sure this guy who has built several bikes that have been and are being raced at a Professional level here in America has no idea what he is talking about. I agree someone from China who is stealing designs and using others logos is far more trust worthy. Good call and thanks for sharing! - Van
Thank you for taking the time to do the research on this. I would NEVER put a knock-off product on any of my motorcycles.

- Van
@@sportbiketrackgear why do you call them Chinesium?
China is good enough and doesn’t steal like European companies
You are spot on with this! If we do not support the companies that deserve it we will be left with only Chinesium. - Van
I was expecting Brian at some point to get a sledgehammer and crush the counterfeit to show how shitty it is
When you have the opportunity to compare the genuine article to the counterfeit the difference is pretty clear. The counterfeit cracked pretty easy and the GB just flexed a bit. - Van
Thanks for looking out for us Brian! This is good stuff to know, people can easily get scammed nowadays.

I LOVE stg, yall have taken care of me for years, but don't tell me you're not promoting this product in a video telling me that you put (the same cases i have on my bike) on all of your personal race bikes.
- Van

Good point and thank you for watching! - Van
- Van
Curious how you feel about the GB polymer engine case covers vs aluminum case covers like the ones made by Yoshimura?
To be fair we have had good results with Woodcraft aluminum and GB. Over the years I have used (and Max has crashed) primarily GB Racing on our bikes. There are two reasons for this:
1) GB covers more of the OEM cover than the aluminum protectors so there is less rash on the engine when the bike slides into a gravel trap.
(Full disclosure I paid for the crashed covers on the table and replaced the ones that came on the bike when it was built)

You are on point. End of the day the goal is to protect your engine and not oil the track down and lose all your friends! - Van
Are those plastic?
- Van
Will your engine run hotter with engine covers? I was interested in buying a set
No, this will not have any influence on operating temperature. - Van

- Van

- Van
Ive not even started the video..came to comment first. This oughta be good. Lol
This has for sure sparked some debate. - Van
Good and cheap don't go together.Kind of like vendors. As Van said in the way back "A good deal on piece of shit isn't a value".
A good deal on a piece of this is still a waste of money. Appreciate your support brother. - Van
Big up mr Van
Thank you for watching!
- Van
It's ridiculous that they charge 300+ dollars for some molded plastic though. Especially when the vortex is billet aluminum and cheaper.
Machining takes so much more time and effort.
why not testing them?
For sure there are people that believe they are getting the genuine article when they purchase the knock off covers. - Van
You suck Dad 😂😂😂
Thanks for the great info.
Thanks for the great Video!!!👍👍👍
Thanks for watching! - Van
ok those one are obvious fake, but what about the fake one that come in real gb racing bag ?
I am not aware of any counterfeit covers that come in the genuine packaging. - Van
I have Gb on all my bikes and would never use anything else they work
They have done the job every time for us. I took other covers off this 750 and replaced them with GB. - Van
Well I’m sold just order for my Z 650 street use, stator side will cover up my oops a week after I got it dam driveway 🤣
Sooner or later every bike hits the ground. - Van
Knock offs are bad but usually easy to spot., Economically, clones (1 to 1 copies) are worse for business.
- Van
Ngl I run Chineseium engine case covers … and 2 crashes in they aren’t bad 😂 better than nothin that’s for sure
- Van
I wouldn't put that Chinese crap on my bike even if they were free .😂😂😂
You and I are on the same page. Thanks for watching! - Van
Thank you for watching! - Van
I've been through multiple crashes with the Chinese ones and they performed just as good as the real ones and SAVED MY BIKE. So why would I spend hundreds on something that I can get the same effect for $70
If you are a real person and have actually crashed on the counterfeit shit all that has happened is you got lucky up to this point. When you purchase the genuine article you get a better product and support the brand which results in more research, development and product improvement. If supporting a company that literally stole a design and manufactured it with sub par materials seems like a good idea to you God Bless. - Van
Plastic vs Composite
Completely different materials used.
GB manufactures in the UK. Anything coming from China is counterfeit and you can not trust it will perform like the genuine product. - Van
The main problem is they're all a lazy copy of the real GB Racing ones. They just created a mold of the real ones. The China ones couldn't even be bothered to come up with their own shapes.
End of the day they stole the design and manufactured from sub par materials. - Van
Seen plenty of GB fail over the years.
We are using these on race bikes where there is no insurance coverage on anything so we need for them to work. - Van
So what you are saying is replace the ones you know work with cheaper ones that may not work? Makes perfect sense, you should run for office. - Van
@@sportbiketrackgear He said that he replaced them with cheaper ones that worked better. That does make perfect sense.
GB shill.. lol good stuff
I shill for all things deserving of said shilling. - Van
Real scam is the GB Racing price
No, this is just what shit costs in todays market. Trust me when I tell you no one is getting rich making GB Racing Engine covers. A 24oz Monster is over $4 now. - Van
This guy must been paid by GB lol keep wasting your money on GB plastic covers
- Van
