    Friends
Apathy without action does not bring change. Lets become the change we want to see.
We need action to ensure the survival of our tribe. Our tribe of handloom handcrafted and khadi of India has to come together to help each other let’s become we instead of me. We have Gandhijis vision to guide us.
How do we help our tribe. Of Course we need to increase the demand.
    How?
As suggested in my earlier video to wear natural fiber only. Why? The ergonomics of these textiles is ideal for all weather. It is slow fashion and has very little carbon footprint with optimum level of employment possibility. It’s a win win situation.
Yes markets are strapped with resources. So instead of buying 10 outfits buy only 3 outfits. Instead of buying 3 bedsheets they may buy only 1. But let's not only buy Made in India but handmade in India.
Even 15% of Indian population makes this change will be able to support the precious karigar and their skills.
We need more people to adopt this lifestyle. Make it more glamorous to wear clothes made by hand. I remember the time when Smita Patil Shabana Azmi Rekha spend wearing beautiful Handloom handcrafted sarees. Amitabh Bacchan, Rajnikant, Anil Kapoor wearing dhoti, kurta pajama and looked dashing.
I challenge Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranbir Kapoor Ranveer Singh, Aayshman Khurana, Varun Dhawan. The whole film industry to start wearing handmade and flaunt it on social media and support our karigars.
Why just that? Suits, shirts, blouses and bedsheets, home furnishings are exported in large numbers from India today.
Our past has been glamorous and glorious. There are tales in history that handmade textiles made in India created trends all over the world and were traded all over the world as precious goods.
We are always going to be talking of our glory of the past our we satisfied?
What about today? What's the contribution of our generation? How are we going forward with the skills.
What about the existing skills which no other country has or had. Are we just going to let it all go in the name of modernization. History also shows whatever was considered as unfashionable in India has come back from the west as fashionable.
Let's take the example of yoga. Now it is fashionable to practice yoga. The thinking is based upon the education system left behind by the British. We lack confidence to be who we are and do what is good for us until the west says so. Look at our Vedic systems. We don't even know our way of live and we negate it.
Even after 73 years of British gone we still have a hangover with of West being better than us and our politicians actually believe that. We need to change that. We need to learn to take pride in what is our heritage, which of course is world heritage.
I addressed a UNESCO conference on brocade in Laos. People will all over the world had come with one maybe one and half techniques. I had 36 different brocade techniques and still I felt I had not represented India enough. Brocade is just one technique. We have more than 373 different techniques with existing skill sets.
Even today many kings and queens from all over the world wear Indian Textiles for their royal occasions. Vienna Museum is filled with an amazing collection of Indian Textiles. We became Sone Ki Chidiya due to our handicraft and handloom textile and our agricultural heritage.
Let us all appreciate our heritage and wear handloom handcrafted and khadi and bring back the appreciation of our skills from the world and becomes Sone Ki Chidiya again
Let us show the world ways to wear eco-friendly textile. Wear handloom, handcrafted and khadi all over the world on social media platform with pride with #handloom, #handcrafted, #khadi and #india
