Wife and I literally were talking about the exact same scene yesterday m we crack up everytime at just the thought. I wondered if anyone else ever noticed
Kinda reminds me of Scott (Ant Man) in Avengers Endgame when kids get a picture with Hulk. I mean do I have to remind Scott he doesn’t become an official Avenger yet?
Totally agree. It’s is such a funny movie on behind the scenes of Hollywood. The scene with the Hollywood director looking like he needs a vacation is the funniest scene, while giving a good perspective. The songs are so memorable.
Everyone can use a little feel good entertainment! Even me. I’m always up for entertainment that lifts the spirit. As well as a bit of romance and excitement
*Jimmy Thompson* (b. *December 9, 1923),* who famously sang *"Beautiful Girl"* in the film, recently turned *100.* He was uncredited, though, which surprised me, because his scene is very memorable. *Rita Moreno* (b. *December 11, 1931)* was a cipher in that movie.
Talking pictures burst suddenly upon Hollywood in the late ' 20s , causing pandemonium . M - G - M seized upon the tide by creating the first all - singing , all - talking , all - dancing musical , The Broadway Melody . The studio quickly followed up with another musical , this one featuring cameo appearances by every star on the Metro lot except Garbo . The Hollywood Revue Of 1929 included a new Arthur Freed / Nacio Herb Brown tune that became a huge hit Originally introduced by Cliff " Ukulele Ike " Edwards , the song " Singin ' In The Rain " and the period from which it derived later inspired what most folks consider the greatest musical film of all time . Gene Kelly costarred with Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor in an original Betty Comden and Adolph Green screenplay spoofing the onslaught of talkies on Hollywood . The signature moment in the picture was a simple song and dance to the title song , which defined Gene Kelly's screen persona forever . The now legendary sequence where Gene danced in the rain was not only a testament to his genius as star , cochoreographer , and codirector , but also to his undeniable fortitude ; he performed the number soaking wet and with a fever of 103 degrees ! After all , the show must go on !
I’ve seen this wonderful picture three times in the last six years! The only Hollywood movie palace I ever stepped inside was the El Capitan. I never been inside the Chinese Theater but one day I will. It’s any movie buffs dream to see the next big Tinseltown classic in a gorgeous movie palace. I even want to attend a movie premiere too!
3:06 It's the feeling that you're appreciated, that you have something to offer, and others know it. It's a very important feeling, Littlefoot. - Grandpa Longneck, The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze (2001)
the movie takes place around 1928 (the dying age of silent films and the birth of sound pictures) but even crazier is that the gap the year the film takes place and the release year of the movie were only about 25 years apart from each other,
Me too! Seeing his face after the audience's reaction and Don being always the protagonist made me think he was going to be jealous or something like that! But he actually took the show!!
Haru Shizun ugh sry for crazy late response. she doesn't really sing expect in full cast songs. shes mostly speaking parts and is basically Lina's wingman haha
Leslie Caron is in 00:22, 01:38 and she faints in 01:52. She was Gene Kelly's opposite in his previous movie "An American in Paris" and this was a joke to put her to receive his flying kiss right at the beginning of his next movie. There is a picture of "Leslie Caron visits Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor on the set of Singin’ in the Rain (1952)". She was one of those who were considered for the role of Kathy Selden.
Seems like no matter how talented you were, nobody cared about you unless were a star of a moving picture. Nobody cared about Don being musically gifted. They only saw him as a good-looking movie star
Everybody always knows Lina's the main antagonist, but let's not forget Zelda who ratted Don and Kathy out merely because she didn't like the idea of Kathy being cast as her younger sister in another movie
Madge Blake as columnist Dora Bailey- she was a favorite of Gene and he always found parts for her. Later she would become Aunt Harriet Cooper on Batman
A little help - I would swear that the girl in the crowd at 0:20-0:25 was Mariette Hartley but after some research she would have been 12. Does anyone know who this is?
These actors are great but do you know who is greater? Jesus. He is selfless and loving. He died for everyone's sins, past, present, and future. Be careful when watching these films. We mustn't make these people our idols. Exodus 20:3-5 says "You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens on earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods." Not only that, but the end times are here. 2 Timothy 4:1-5 states "You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. People will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!" This is merely to inform people, not to attack them. God bless.
Cosmo is the best character in the movie!
He sure is the big funny guy! No wonder Cats Don’t Dance imagined Pudge as Cosmo with Danny as Don and Sawyer as Kathy
Gotta love Cosmo 😁💜
Donald O'connor is the best, funniest actor in musical films ever!
Everyone should have a Cosmo as a friend.
Yeah right!
"ZELDA!!! WOHHOO!!! ZELDA!!! Cracks me up every time!

"Zelda's had so much unhappiness I hope this time its really love!" as she strikes that wild pose for the camera. Love that too! 😂
Wife and I literally were talking about the exact same scene yesterday m we crack up everytime at just the thought. I wondered if anyone else ever noticed
I just realised, this is the Zelda that gets upstaged by Kathy Selden.
@@stainlesssteelfox1 Played by the lovely Rita Moreno!
The fact that this is such a fun movie yet satire of Hollywood but still fells wholesome and innocent... just amazes me.
I need to see this again! It's been a whole two months or so.
This is one of the greatest musicals ever made, no question about it
1:59 His smile while pushing the man killed me 🤣🤣
Poor Cosmo he always left out and the 3rd wheel😂
Kinda reminds me of Scott (Ant Man) in Avengers Endgame when kids get a picture with Hulk. I mean do I have to remind Scott he doesn’t become an official Avenger yet?
Don always keeps including him though.
That's Rita Moreno as Zelda. She's the last of the main credited cast.
All other cast is dead except her
@TheBrabon1 yup
I’ve only seen this movie three times and Bam! I didn’t recognize her for a second. I have also seen her in the King & I and of course West Side Story
Wow. Great fun fact!
Jean rocked in that platinum hair in this film.
Zelda's had so much unhappiness.. then Zelda turns round and gives everyone huge grins & movie star poses LOL
It’s a shame not everyone has seen this movie. It’s still so funny! The part that always gets me is Gene Kelly being a stunt double 😅
Totally agree. It’s is such a funny movie on behind the scenes of Hollywood. The scene with the Hollywood director looking like he needs a vacation is the funniest scene, while giving a good perspective. The songs are so memorable.
I love this movie so much! One of my favorites 😍
Same. I’m 20.
Once I read a critic describe this movie as being "wide awake and alive" I can see what they meant
Everyone can use a little feel good entertainment! Even me. I’m always up for entertainment that lifts the spirit. As well as a bit of romance and excitement
Am I the only one who likes Cosmo😂?
No
Heck no!!! But then, I've always liked Lina also. LOL!
Nope
He ranks just as highly as Kelly and Astaire!!
Cosmo is my favorite character in this movie. He's awesome!
Judy Landon who played Olga Mara is still alive. She was uncredited though. Rita Moreno as Zelda Zanders is the last living credited cast member.
I recently saw Rita in the new West Side Story. As beautiful for her age as ever
Wikipedia says Judy Landon died in 2021. Note sure if that’s true.

0:38 When the new Zelda game comes out
Aww man poor Cosmo.
Oh my god as a child all the jokes just flew over my head and now I feel like I have to watch the film again to actually get it
I’ve seen this wonderful picture three times in the last six years! The only Hollywood movie palace I ever stepped inside was the El Capitan. Audience when the celebrities arrived
Zelda: 😄😄😃😃
Olga mara: 😲🙂
Cosmo brown: 🤨🤨
Don Lockwood & Lina Lamont: 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😭😭😭😭
"They've been married for two months but still as happy as newlyweds" says Dora as the couple looks awfully pissed.
I love when they’re dancing at the party, it’s so funny!
The first English word I learned in this movie was 'dignity'🤣
the movie takes place around 1928 (the dying age of silent films and the birth of sound pictures) but even crazier is that the gap the year the film takes place and the release year of the movie were only about 25 years apart from each other,
3:07 Cosmo looks so done with Don’s sh*t 😂
Olga looks amazing.
0:39 The Man: ZELDA!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! ZELDA!!!!!
Dora is played by Madge Blake who later became famous as Aunt Harriet Cooper on " Batman."
"Like bacon and eggs" lmao
If only that was true! I love bacon and eggs
Cosmo brings the insecurity we all feel, including Don, Leana, and Kathy.
Nobody could ham it up like Kelly.
Was Maleficent modeled after the lady with the spiderweb?
TheBrabon1 Thank you for letting me know 🙂
TheBrabon1 Theda Bara
The columnist Dora Bailey was the model for the good fairy Meriwether. Seriously
Lol.
I’ll be honest when I saw this show for the first time I thought Cosmo was gonna be the villain
Me too! Seeing his face after the audience's reaction and Don being always the protagonist made me think he was going to be jealous or something like that! But he actually took the show!!
I was not fooled one bit
0:41 damn I'm playing Zelda in my school musical
Does she sing at all? Because I'm thinking of auditioning for her part
Haru Shizun ugh sry for crazy late response. she doesn't really sing expect in full cast songs. shes mostly speaking parts and is basically Lina's wingman haha
Me too xD
BROOOO SAME
😂 when he let it slip “we were struggling “😂😂😂
a good preview of Beatle-mania...
HITESH PALIWAL nice try to get people IP address
I feel for the girl who passes out when Gene Kelly blows her a kiss. I would have done the same thing. 😍
Am I the only one who thinks that girl 01:52 is Leslie Caron? Not a single mention on this anywhere.
The commentator lady always reminds me of Mrs Puff from spongebob 😂😂😂
Somebody had to point out to me that she's "Aunt Harriet" from "Batman!"
Oh yeah she does, she even looks kinda like Mrs Puff.
apparently rita moreno had a wonderful time filming this movie because she wasnt cast as a stereotypical latina role
0:39 me when they show new footage for Breath of the Wild 2
Stopped too short. Give us more please.
"Dignity always dignity" and Cosmo thinks back.
Leslie Caron is in 00:22, 01:38 and she faints in 01:52. 1:37 The moment you want to see
I think you mean 0:39 ...
Everybody always knows Lina's the main antagonist, but let's not forget Zelda who ratted Don and Kathy out merely because she didn't like the idea of Kathy being cast as her younger sister in another movie
Yeah, and i thought she snitched on them because she was jealous, since Kathy was becoming famous and nearly stole the movie from her
who else is watching these little clips for film studies??
Doing my exam in 2 hours😭😭
rita moreno. how marvelous
Madge Blake as columnist Dora Bailey- she was a favorite of Gene and he always found parts for her.
Later she would become Aunt Harriet Cooper on Batman
We were stranded ugh staying 😂 good catch
I love Gene Kelly's eyes ... like dark chocolate
I play Cosmo in my school musical
Lucky! Though considering O'connor's feet were bleeding after make em laugh, maybe not so lucky.
Look at Rita Moreno as Zelda...
I didn’t recognize her at first
She’s the last remaining remaining living actor of this film
Zelda - Rita Moreno
Sad you couldn't include the whole Dignity speech segment.
What DVD was this captured from ??
the only cast still alive
At 1:12 Olga flashes a look at the same time the car horn. Like she's saying "Go f*@# yourself"!
Is that Debbie Reynolds in the front at 0:24?
Leslie Caron is in 00:22
Ok, thanks. 😊
A little help - I would swear that the girl in the crowd at 0:20-0:25 was Mariette Hartley but after some research she would have been 12. Does anyone know who this is?
I still think the girl in the audience is Eve Arden. (She has no lines, her friend says; "She's so refined, I think I'll kill myself!")
Leslie Caron
RITA MORENOOOOO
Someone will have to record the number of takes Donald O'Connor does on this movie and feed them into the computers at the Large Hadron Collider.
hello Donald Lockwood and Lina Lamont 👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Zelda reminds me of the flapper girl version of Miley Cyrus.
The teeq was the Wweeeeeeeew1
25 cents for a glossy magazine.
Ridiculous no one gave Cosmo props.
Gene sure looks like Ben Affleck don't he.
💜🌟
oooooooooo
Sinatra alert. Daddy.😮🎉🎉🎉 WGNJMNFAS
Zelda fake smiley and miserable.
Olga no fake but happiness.
but wait here's Cosmo !
Judging by the crowd even Lina Lamont can't Top Mary Pickford.
