  • @HiroiSekai
    @HiroiSekai 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +119

    After a day of mostly good decisions, the Jays collapse under a mountain of bad ones. There is a serious fundamental problem with how this team operates.
    First off, can we talk about the challenges? Absolutely horrendous. Whoever is feeding Schneider the info to review these needs to go, and if it looks too close on the field, I feel like he should start saying no to them. The Jays have something like a 30% success rate on challenges, and they just get wasted on challenges that are clear as day.
    Second, the bullpen was taxed yesterday and we were down to our last legs. However, Swanson absolutely struggled tonight to even pitch a strike, and as horrendous as Mitch White is, they needed to bring him out for a change. Maybe he comes across a lucky bouncer or pop fly. The fresh arm alone could have easily changed several plays with the really unlucky bounces. Instead, Schneider just watched as Swanson absolutely burned himself out, letting in all the runs and then expecting White to get 3 outs with the ghost runner. Absolutely no foresight on it, you bring in White and go for that off-chance of closing it out on the 9th. It wasn't a 1 run lead, it was 4. If Swanson let that many guys on, it was clear he wasn't going to close them all out.
    Finally, that play by Espinal. I don't know what to even think, but that was the most egregious part of the loss. Very much like the Aaron Hicks dropping his head play. Hate Varsho all you like, but he plays hard and doesn't take most things for granted. Bases were swimming with risk, and the runner blew past the stop sign and went home. If Espinal threw home right away, he would have been out by a mile and the game would have ended. I love Espinal, but he needs to be benched for that for some accountability.
    Jays really need to give up on trying to get return on White or whatever the heck it is they're doing, and DFA him. Every day, he eats up a roster spot and is basically unplayable. When the bullpen absolutely runs dry and he's your last option, it's like throwing in the towel. If we had a guy like Bowden Francis or Pearson in there, you have a chance. I thought the bullpen management wasn't horrible minus keeping Swanson in to burn, we just had no arms after 2 nights of extra inning games. But you just cannot keep White.
    Tomorrow is another day, gotta keep playing. However, this trade deadline is going to define the rest of the season. Weak cost-saving moves, they're going to end up exactly where they did last year or the year before. They need to make some notable and well-thought moves, and go on a proper surge, especially with the division games coming up fast.

    • @bwebster6234
      @bwebster6234 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Swanson should have been fresh though..a day off and he has not allowed a run in his last 7 innings. Yet he completely falls apart. Kind of makes the trade for Hernandez even worse as the Jays brought him in so they could do better in the playoff s . Hernandez proved last year that he could work in stressful situations with 2 homers against the Mariners ( can you imagine the pressure on Swanson in a playoff situation ) One thing for sure is he can't be used as a closer ever again. I agree about Mitch White he has to go ..and Bowden Francis should be with the Jays on a permanent basis. in fact if they had him in the line up good chance the coach would have sent him in when Swanson was falling apart as Mitch White only guarantees a loss.

    • @bwebster6234
      @bwebster6234 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      . The Jays just can't admit they made a terrible trade for White..so they would rather lose than do the right thing and DFA him.

    • @HiroiSekai
      @HiroiSekai 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@bwebster6234 Sadly this likely plays a part in this. Mostly however, I think the organization is low on assets they're easily willing to part with, and are trying to retain him as long as possible to scrape him into a deal. He's got no options left, and if we DFA him, he walks for free. Coming this close to the trade deadline, every chip on the table counts, and they're probably going to try to throw him somewhere that's half-buying, half-selling that needs any starter or reliever.
      I think they'll keep White right up until next Sunday to Monday to see if he can be bundled into a trade. If not, they'll almost certainly release him on Tuesday on the deadline, when they bring in a different acquisition to take his place (or to make space for a temp like Francis/Pearson until Green returns to take his spot).

      These are the teams that if you beat, you gain substantial ground on. If they continue to play at the 7-20 pace they have been, someone like Boston could easily kick them out of the Wild Card.

    A great battle between these clubs! It had a playoff atmosphere throughout...Julio Urias? He battled after getting in trouble early but gutted it out to keep The Azul close. An important decision by Doc whether to keep him out there in the 6th with two out and two on, I think it was. Showing his trust in him could be a great confidence builder for Julio to build on for his next outing!
    A lot of exciting plays, a couple of great comebacks...
    The Jays are for real...having the pedigrees of Guerrero and Bichette can definitely help that team make a good run for the postseason. I heard that Craig Biggio's son is also on that Jay's squad? Man, that AL East is going to be a dogfight throughout the rest of the season!
