I ATTEND A CLASSIC CAR AUCTION IN HERTFORDSHIRE! LETCHWORTH MOTOR AUCTIONS

- Welcome back all,
In this video I attend Letchworth Motor Auctions, classic car auction! I often pop across to this auction as it's fairly local to me and they always have a great selection of lots going under the hammer. I found this sale (30th Sept) very interesting as I challenged myself to look around different makes and models as in the past I've been very ford biased!
I enjoyed looking around the sunbeam Tiger which was a rare find, although it had no paperwork or keys to come with the sale, it still fetched over £10,000!
I also really liked the VW Corrado that was in excellent condition with some stunning Dimond cut alloys. The hammer price surprised me too, the Corrado only made £5,625 which was well in the lower estimate bracket.
The last car that I really liked was the little Mk3 fiesta, with only one former keeper from new and still with the original dealer sticker in the rear window I thought that was a great buy!
Please do share your thoughts and opinions on the cars covered. Also do let me know if you'd like to see a perticular make or model of classic and I will try and track some down at the upcoming auctions I attend.

Corsair estate is a beauty
Wasn’t it just! 😍
That Corsair estate is a total beast what a survivor
A true survivor indeed!
I drove that Corsair 15 - 20 years ago. It belonged to a guy from somewhere in Herts, cannot recall where. It was exactly as it is now with the (incorrect) seventies Cortina/Capri wheels.
Your parents did an excellent job at the auction in your absence, no wobbly camera shots, with clear viewing angles, and overall a slick production by them. Well done.
Thank you, they certainly did do a great job 😎 I like to show the auction footage as it ties the video together well 👌🏻
Anyone else getting a wee bit addicted to this?? 😊😊🏴
That Tiger was a rare beast!
But the Corsair GT Estate?! A proper one off with the sunroof & it just looked untouched
I agree the Corsair was a incredibly clean example & I’m glad the hammer price reflected that!
Lovely Bedford, thanks, great episode
Glad you enjoyed 😎
Corsair was the car of the event for me, followed by the mini. Although my love of Fords isn't just restricted to cars and vans, Ford trucks are a really big love of mine, having had at work the D series, cargo and even played around with a Transcontinental tractor unit but it was still good to see the D series's competitor the Bedford tk. Seems a bit young to be a petrol powered version as i'dve thought they'd be all diesel by then.
Thank You Mitch I enjoyed your video, I did have Corsair 2000E in the late 1960s, so it brought back some great memories.
Very cool, they’re just so rare now! 😎
Cracking video thanks for sharing again Mitch! That Mini was so nice 😎
Your welcome Nick, thank you for watching 😎
The mini was mint 👌🏻
It certainly was mate 👌🏻
I love the Corsair! What a rare car…
The hammer price of the tiger tells you all you need to know 😂 hell of a weapon once done and rare 40-60 k and beyond all done
I’ve since done some research and am shocked at the price they fetch once restored 😎
Hi mitch iv been a car enthusiast since i started driving in 1978 .Iv owned a lot of cars since then ,

I switched to vauxhall in 1994 with my first early Calibra, and loved it ,so i bought my current one 2 litre 16v in 2017 as a bit of nostalgia ( they are becoming very rare now
For me , I loved the Corsair and the Mini !!
I'm addictied to these auction vids, luv the walk around description and the hammer sold price, keep up the good work👍
Glad you enjoy the videos! 😁
Great work as always matey. Really enjoy your content. Well done on roping the folks in!
Cheers mate! 😎
Great Video again. More BMWS please. 😀👍
Great video, thanks.
Strewth that Abbot Farnham V4 Estate is as rare as hens teeth love the colour too my late Father Norman owned a 1963 Crossflow Corsair Deluxe in the same colour under a white roof
Very rare, it was great to see one survived! 😁
Nice video. Interesting to see what's on offer and you have kept it right to the point without hours of waffle!
Glad you enjoyed the video! No waffle here 😆
Good to see the Auctioneer still going strong, liked him at anglia car auctions.
Yes, Jim is a great bloke 👍🏻
Do you know why he left ACA..?
Parents did a great job getting footage, couldn't even tell! If you spot any classic Polo's would be very interested to see
Thank you, they did a great job! I’ll keep my eye out for classic polos 😎
Great video mate. I am not far from Letchworth so might have to pop along to one of these auctions one day. I absolutely loved that Bedford truck.
Enjoyed that 👍👍👍
I’m glad you enjoyed 😁
Believe the words of an old fart, Mitch, a Sunbeam Tiger is seriously worth saving, it's the Sunbeam equivalent of an AC Cobra. If I'd had the money to do it I would have made damned sure that Corsair was coming home with me, that was a stunning car.
I’ve since learnt how rare the Sunbeam tiger is and also seen the prices they go for 😮 I agree the Corsair was lovely!
@@Mk2Mitch That's what I love about cars, no matter your age, you're young, I'm around your Dad's age, there's always something to learn or something you didn't know which keeps the subject fresh.
Hi never seen your videos before, I watch many but yours are brilliant. Keep it up
Thank you for watching! I’m glad you enjoy the videos 😁
My Corrado spoiler went up automatically at 40mph but I believe some go at different speeds. There is also an override switch to manually do it
That’s interesting, thank you for sharing 👍🏻
Another great video Mitch , talking about the no holds barred interiors of old fords I used to own a mk 1 Granada it was metallic green with a matching green velour interior carpet and door cards too ,would be interesting if you ever found another one of those
Thank you pal, that sounds bold 😎 I will keep my eye out!
Thanks for showing a Stag as i asked mate, appreciate it! Top vid as always! (And you're still punching lol)
Your welcome pal! Always happy to film cars the viewers want to see 😎
Fiesta was a steal at £1700. The Corrado was a bargain just under £6k too!
I agree, lots of steals 😁
Hey Mitch I haven't seen my favourite classic car in any off your videos yet my favourite classic car is the Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1 I love them cars.
Hello mate, I will note this down and try to find a Mk1 golf GTI at auction 👍🏻
I owned 2 back in the 80's ..one had been sprayed pink by the previous owner ,but it was in such good condition that I bought it anyway and got it re sprayed black ..it's original colour was silver ..great cars
Great auction video, the Corsair was really something. Best wishes.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed 😁
Awsome again 👍 more mini footage please being picky 😂
I’ll try to record as many minis as I can! 😎
Love your VIDEOS 👍👍
Thank you! 😁
Interesting to see how Saab does in future auctions
Thanks mum n dad
The Corsair looks good, it a shame it’s got a stick change gear leaver, much better with the ‘three on a tree’ column change leaver!.
Really liked the V.W. Thanks Mitch.
I’m glad you enjoyed! 😎
Nice very rare Tiger
Hi Mk2 mitch... please keep up the great work...
Will do! 😎
I'm not sure that the Sunbeam Tiger was a Sunbeam Tiger or an Alpine with a V8 ie a Sunbeam Alpger. There was no side trim and no documents is a bit naughty. Care needed where authenticity is concerned with Tigers.
this boy makes very good videos and the camera man is professional too.
Thank you! I am the camera man 😎
@@Mk2Mitch ok. well that's good. you need to try and go to the Morris Leslie classic car auction at Errol sometime . got some good cars there too.
Looking forward to you being on 100k will happen!
Thank you pal! 😆
Been at that auction many many times, snapped a couple of bargains also
It’s a great auction and ran well 👍🏻
I do love the front end on a corsair.
Do you see any hillman imps at the auction?.
I’ve not seen any Hillman imps but I will keep my eye out 👍🏻
Tigers are fetching £50 £60000 restored
Someone’s bought a great investment then! 👌🏻
Corsairs are beginning to climb in value, a 70's ford that you dont have to sell a kidney for !!
I'm very surprised that the Corsair didn't fetch much more than £12,000. I'm sure that rare cars of that era were fetching silly prices not long ago.
I feel as if £12k was a lot! Double over the lower estimate! 😮
Do you see many toyota mr2 mk1. Still miss mine….. one day …
I’ll keep my eye out for a mk1 mr2 at the next auctions I attend!
would you in future videos look more at asian cars? there was a very nice white Mazda 323 F 1st generation right beside the Corrado
Yes of course, I will note this down and try to include some in the next auction video 👍🏻
Land rover please.Great video
I will add land rovers to the list! 👍🏻
those stags loved to blow head gaskets, the only cheap fix was to put a rover V8 in...
sunbeam tiger - poor mans AC cobra
those corsair V4 engines are crap, steer clear or chuck a V6 in
used to PDI all those minis, full check-over, retorque the head, reset the tappets, reset dizzy + carb, you young'uns get spoilt these days... [doubt you find missing shockers or washer bottles on modern cars...] keep them coming young man
Make it a Cologne V6, the Essex is impossible to get some spares.
cologne has siamesed ports + distributor at back, poor choice
what parts can you not get these days for the zodiac/transit/capri/granada engine [i have grown up with essex engines always in my dad's garage]@@foxstrangler
I am SO glad the Tiger got a special mention! You ARE a funny fucker - you sort of go off the boil if it's not a Ford🤣🤣 My ears perked RIGHT up the second that so distinctive roof line hoved into view! I love them and a friend of mine who I used to shoot target rifle with at Bisley during the July NRA Meeting had the Sunbeam Alpine 1725 on which the Tiger was based - and maybe you'd have been a bit more enthusiastic if you'd known the Tigers came in two engine sizes, I forget exactly but I think 260cubic inch and 289 - 4.2 and 4.7litre Ford V8s respectively!!! 🥰🥰 What machine the 289 was in the early Sixties, well you can imagine cant you, everyone driving Ford Anglias and Hillman Minx and Austin 1100s and MGBs - that was something really exotic back then!! That's made my day seeing that and it tickled me how the second th "bloody old boring stuff" was out the way, and you got to talk about a 999cc Fiesta, you instantly perked up😂😂 That made me laugh.... nice one Mitch🤩🤩
Haha, I’m trying to look at other classics and I do find it interesting to learn about them! Although as my voice clearly let on, I’m a sucker for a classic Ford 🤣
If you can find a fiesta supersport they are my dream car after owning one back in the late 80s
Very few genuine ones about now.
They had great graphics & trim
There was a super sport in my Manor Park classics auction video earlier this year 😎
The Mk3 Fiesta was definitely the best, also do you know if the fog lights were aftermarket, I swear those ones were only on the 1.6S?
Yes the Mk3 was very nice! I think they were Ford fog lights but not from factory 👍🏻
I have an M3 Evo needing full restro but 100k miles. have you seen any recently cos I don't know what it's worth. I have keys and v5.
I’m not too sure mate, if you contact Letchworth Motor Auction they would value it free of charge 👍🏻
I bet that Tiger is something to drive it will weight like a few bags of sugar
A friend had one. With three up (I was sideways behind the seats) 70 in second, and wheel spin in every gear! Bit thirsty though.
What’s happening with the mk2 Mitch ?
I’m currently removing the underseal off the escort. It’s a long and monotonous task but it should be done soon! Then I can paint the underside and finally fit the engine 😁
What no escort videos
Escort videos will be coming soon. I’m currently removing the underseal and it’s a long job! 😅
One cheap tiger…
I know the world has gone mad, but a corsair estate making more than a a sunbeam tiger at auction just proves it...... does nobody know what a tiger is. How can you call yourself ford enthusiasts!
The Sunbeam tiger needed a full restoration and still made 10k I think that’s good going! I don’t think it’s fair to compare that to the Corsair as that was a MINT example and a one off 👌🏻 both great cars in their own right 😎
@@Mk2Mitch Dont get me wrong, I liked the Corsair and thought it was a great value buy. However its like comparing a mint late sixties Fiat 124 with a De Tomaso Pantera. I know the Corsair was really tidy but the rough Sunbeam tiger is only a short step in auto genetics from an AC Cobra. I have been a petrol heead since the mid 70's but know brands and models from many years before I was born. Having a late sixties car for example is going to be a massive committment in mecanical maintenance, paint, bodywork, welding, blood, sweat and tears..... a sunbeam tiger would be appreciating in appeal, value and rarity before you even lay a spanner on it, some cars were born desirable but oters, no matter how well peserved they are, will never have that same level of appeal or interest. I love the blue oval too but cars like Mk 1 Escort 1100L will never hold the same appeal or value as a genuine AVO Mk 1 TwinCam or RS1600 even if built as a recreation (immitation). I am very glad that you showcase and appreciate cars built long before you were born, but there is a huge pool of fantastic machinery from many varied manufacturers, spanning many decades to be aware of too. Really appreciate the work you are doing on your pinto powered Mk 2 escort. Take care!
It goes on condition, but if that corsair gets a less careful owner, or gets used a fair bit it will determinate rapidly and go down in value fast.
The Tiger is at a residual value and the work needed scares people who have neither skills, funds, or tools to restore it.
The tiger was for nothing
That Fiesta is almost too good to be a daily driver, but to do anything else with such a fine example would be a waste.
I agree, very clean & genuine example!
Love theses vids mitch ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cheers mate!
