Im picturing back in the day when loads of people come together n congregate at the malls. Xmas trees, decked out decorations, Santa Claus. It was magical! I dont recognize or belong in this era anymore.
The interiors of Lakeside and Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn are indistinguishable with one subtle exception. The floor at Lakeside is all square and rectangular tile. The tiles at Fairlane are all six sided.
Lakeside was off the chain back in the day, what in the world happened that they’re closing that beautiful place ? I was there one time and absolutely loved it
Yeah, it’s kind of sad to see this mall go down like that when I was a kid we always shop there but hearing this place is going to close down what is sad case of this situation
It seems like one of the design elements of this mall was the ability to get intentionally lost while not being really lost or unsafe. The constant shift in sight lines making it hard to know what you have already passed is interesting.
I remember you couldn't even get into the parking lot back into the late 80's, and early 90's during Christmas time. The last weekend before Christmas? FORGET ABOUT IT!!!
Gosh I miss the days of the busy mall. Those places seemed magical when I was a kid.
Its only like this in USA. Europe and South America they are all still very very busy

Birchwood Mall in Port Huron is still busy though
I used to play ice hockey there back when they first opened there was a nice ice arena . . Everything has a life cycle 40 + years is a good run ..
I met my wife here in 2001.
The mall is now closed as of July 1st 2024. Macys and JC Penney are remaining open.
SO sad....place looks nice still

Are JCPenney and Macy's staying as freestanding after?
Yes they are
me and friends would hang out at the arcade there, or walk around trying to "pick up girls"... but eventually everything dies =(
Crystal Mall in Waterford Connecticut isn’t doing much better.
