De 'Schienenbus' | The 'Schienenbus'

Een Railbus (Schienenbus) is een kleine en goedkope trein voor personenvervoer, die wordt ingezet op buurtlijnen. Zij zijn vaak gebaseerd (maar niet in alle gevallen) op structurele elementen uit de bus- en vrachtauto-industrie. De oude railbussen lijken ook op bussen, vandaar de naam.
In de spoorweghistorie zijn allerlei lichte goedkope treinen ontwikkeld om rendabel vervoer te kunnen aanbieden op minder drukke baanvakken. De bekendste vertegenwoordigers van deze categorie zijn de West-Duitse "Schienenbus" (DB-type VT95, VT98), en het Oost-Duitse equivalent de "Ferkeltaxe" (DR-type VT2.09)

A railbus is a lightweight passenger railcar that shares many aspects of its construction with a bus, typically having a bus (original or modified) body and four wheels on a fixed base, instead of on bogies. Originally designed and developed during the 1930s, railbuses have evolved into larger dimensions, with characteristics similar in appearance to a light railcar, with the terms railcar and railbus often used interchangeably. The most famous ones are of course the ones from Germany.

My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚈🚂🛤🚅🚄🚉🚊🚝🚞🚋🚃🚇 especially railbuses like those he thinks that here in North America 🇨🇦🇺🇸 they are highly underrated rail transportation vehicles and that Siemens, Progress Rail, or any other company that builds railroad equipment should build clones of these and the departments of transportation should restore and rebuild railroad lines that were abandoned and/or removed and run these on them and on lines that are not used anymore or at least don't get passenger service.
