Big cities tend to be more liberal just by the nature of being big. To understand why, you have to understand the fundamental biological differences between liberalism vs conservatism.
Liberalism is driven by a desire for novelty, nuance and complexity. They have larger anterior cingulate cortexes, which is the area responsible for emotional regulation and processing social interaction. They tend to do better in large cities because of the diversity and novelty of experience that you find in bigger cities.
Conservatism is born of a desire for security, predictability and authority. They tend to have larger amygdala, which is the area of the brain that regulates fear and dealing with threats. This is why they tend to stick to smaller, rural areas - the homogenous communities feel safer.

I live in Boise and most are not liberal. You have a couple of Californians who talk a big game, but they are harmless. If you compare Boise to the rest of Idaho then it is liberal, but if you compare Boise to any city in California, Oregon, etc. It's not liberal at all.

One reason Idaho is so great is because of all the public lands. You can still enjoy the outdoors here. The *reason* we have so many public lands is because Idaho was a blue state when all that happened. Conservatives have moved here and now many of them want to sell our public lands. We'd have been much better off if Orange County had stayed in California instead of colonizing Idaho. It won't last long. They'll sell off our public lands to billionaires and then there will be nothing special about our state.

Great video! Thank you for your honesty, just what we needed to know. We too are in Colorado, have been here almost 50 years, husband born and raised here. We are conservatives to the core which is very rare here. Our state has been liberal a long time and it's been worse since the exodus of some from blue states to CO and why we are ready to pack up and retire elsewhere . That's another thing for the life of me I don't understand why people who say they don't like the way their cities being ran, then they move and vote the same exact way from where they left! Makes no sense at all!! We were highly considering Boise but not so sure now, certainly don't want to head to another liberal city. Might as well just stay here! Shifting our thoughts to maybe Twin Falls which I know is conservative and Pocatello or Idaho Falls might be a consideration but they are little too cold and snowy. Thanks again for making this video it really helps for people like us decide on where we want to have our final landing place🙂

I gotta say, I personally think Boise is pretty conservative, but regardless the biggest poblem the entire state is having is the massive influx of people moving here, regardless of political status, local Idahoans cannot afford to live here if they do not already have a home, apartments have been crammed up against every main street in the area, the rent per month is almost double the typical monthly morgage from 5-10 years ago, the only way to afford housing in the area is rent with friends, already have a house, or move here with money
I don't understand the appeal of moving here besides greed, it legitimately screws up the lives of the people who have lived here their whole lives

Boise is a “purple” city. Red and blue together. It’s almost 50/50, with conservatives leading. I don’t believe Boise will go downhill like other cities because of the Idaho legislature, which is overwhelmingly Republican. I think Boise is an excellent example of checks and balances. Yes, it is liberal, but the Idaho legislature makes sure that the left doesn't go far-left, and the city makes sure they don’t go far-right. I see Boise as a truly American city.

You cant run away from an "illness", you just bring it with you or on your person. @@loretta6089 Say what you want but the number one thing that creates an unhappy society is when the mass of people is agitated. I have lived here my entire life, about 15 years ago it was incredibly peaceful. There was no traffic, there were no lines, there were no all day trips to the DMV, tickets to things never sold out and if that was too much, all you had to do to be left alone was leave pavement. Now, you can't go anywhere without being surrounded by a bunch of idiots ruining everything. First of all the majority of people moving here are sociopathic levels of rude and impolite. Traffic is insane now all day long, people drive like the worst assholes I have ever seen in said traffic which is fairly new, anytime there's a demand for something stores and local businesses can't keep up, the winter months have become outright deadly at this point because so many people can't handle basic winter driving conditions. Im sure its only a matter of time before the East Coasters demand the State to start dumping metric tons of salt on the road every winter so nobody can have anything nice, just clapped out rust buckets driving around. The worst thing now is you can't even go to the mountains without running into groups of outlanders "recreating" and pretending to be outdoorsy. The type of people that get uneasy when they see a firearm in its natural environment; the forest. By far the worst people are the ones that reenact the action scenes from the MadMax franchise on a convoy of obnoxious side by sides and make it impossible for anyone outside of their group to have a good time, while simultaneously destroying public land and unpaved roads so people can be pissed at them even when they arent there. You're DAMN RIGHT were bitter about it and you would be too if you had what we had! It wasn't about politics here until people started showing up, Right and Left were private affairs in Idaho and now its completely toxic with people like Lauren McClean. Shes not even an Idahoan shes from BOSTON! As far as Im concerned she shouldve been ineligible to even enter the running. Sorry, let me get back on track here... The point Im trying to make is that when theres too many people in an area, it creates a condition where NOBODY gets what they want and EVERYONE is experiencing maximum agitation. When everyone in the country decides to move to "small town", it stops being "small town" and becomes just another "big town" with the same problems as the one they moved away from. I know it's not your fault and as an individual you are no more culpable than anyone else. It doesn't change how we locals feel though. I hope you get to experience what little is left before its all gone...

Obviously theres the outliers like the kids who were on Jersey Shore, which Im certain the majority of which were characters they were acting out and not their genuine selves... You are correct saying that it didn't get truly bad until the Californians started their mass migration here, I actually read an article the other day saying that Californians were the rudest people in America and that their kids were having an affect on other kids in Idaho schools. This was from a major local news outlet, I think KTVB or Channel 2 maybe. Californians I have noticed are culturally the most selfish and obnoxious, self-centered people that we are dealing with in Idaho. I have met very few whom I enjoyed speaking with and even they required some coaching to make them self-conscious enough to modify their behaviour. Its as if they believe that being from California makes them just as important as Hollywood celebrities, when the actual way in which we equate them to Hollywood celebrities is with the same level of disgust and disdain. They have zero respect for nature or other people, its as if they think they've moved to some lawless place where nobody will hold them accountable and sadly for the time being they're not wrong. It's obvious that our local Law Enforcement is unable to handle the volume of humans in the Treasure Valley now. Driving on I84 now is either a congested standstill or a life and death contest when its moving, if Law Enforcement was still efficable in that capacity it wouldn't be this way. My Wifes parents live in a subdivision out in Nampa, they are the only Idahoans there and every single person around them is like bougie trailer trash, all Californians. Their next door neighbor intentionally trapped an Owl in his barn. The neighbor across the street came over and tried to physically assault my Father in Law because FIL asked him to stop mowing his field of weeds down and creating a dust bowl every summer. He asked this because the dust was causing them property damage. My description of the Californians moving here is that they're like Vagrants who wear nice clothes and have a home to return to after a long day of harassing the public. They truly behave in much the same way as the mentally ill or substance abusing homeless that plague their home state. Must not be too far off from true because they tolerate them down there and pontificate others to tolerate them elsewhere.

But before they came here, Idaho was the 2nd state to have female suffrage (right after Wyoming, which was also liberal before the conservatives moved there). The thing about liberals you might not understand is that if you're going to tame a land you have to not be the type who gives all your labor and sweat to billionaires by paying taxes to a govt who gives your money to billionaires. Because if you care so little about your sweat and labor that you'd hand it over to billionaires you probably have never really worked much. That's why union members are generally more liberal. Maybe the OP is worried about those failed ways of governing haunting their traditionally conservative state? 🤷‍♂

Boise Idaho native 50+ years. Boise has gone more purple but not by much but Idaho as a whole is deeply red just so you know. In Boise proper, you have the North End that has ALWAYS been liberal but that is about the extent of it. Yes, downtown Boise is definitely more liberal, but If you do any significant research on Boise, you'll know we've ALWAYS had a strong LGBTQ community, look up "Boys of Boise" from the 50's". The pride flags you see are mostly in the North End and along Harrison Boulevard. As far as the Mayor, calm down, she isn't going to turn Boise into Portland. And as far as legalizing drugs like Oregon, it won't ever happen. Idaho will be the last state to legalize any drugs including cannabis, this is why we have a very low homeless population. Our State is still very rural, very conservative, quite LDS (Eastern Idaho) and strongly Christian. I will say, that as a native you will ruffle feathers if you come up here and try to drastically change to fit your lifestyle if it runs a fowl with Urban vs Rural ideologies. If you come, you need to be able to adapt to more rural ways. - i.e. gun laws. But from what I'm finding out, a lot of people from blue states like California are actually political refugees and aren't interested in fundamentally changing the landscape but to blend in. Boise has a LONG ways to go before we'd be a Denver or Portland or Seattle. Whenever you legalize drugs, a certain demographic will flock to be part of that scene. Boise doesn't have that.

My comment was to refute that belief and state that there is a vast difference between traditional conservative Christianity (ie Calvinism) vs general religious freedoms.
What I have seen from MULTIPLE “Christian” churches out here is Christian light. It is not biblically based and very progressive. I would even go as far as saying I have seen firsthand traditional Christianity mocked openly by these churches.

"I was a stranger in Egypt," he said, "and however you treated the least of these is how you treated me." Wanna give any more lectures about how its progressives, not conservatives, who "do not adhere to strict biblical teachings?" I mean, the *only* place in the Bible where Jesus threatened to kill us, *should* be the part we all read and are super strict about, right? Because Jesus didn't make a lot of threats. But conservatives just laugh that off because they'd rather be a racist in hell than with Jesus in Heaven. As you said: "It is not Chipotle where you pick what you do want and leave what you dont." So stop harassing immigrants if you aren't some Chipotle Christian. Technically, you're supposed to *invite* the foreign strangers in. So merely tolerating isn't enough. You have to find room in your heart for immigrants, even if they're not your same skin color. That or its Hell for you bub. If you don't hate all that stuff, you should know that it was liberals who organized it all. And we are Idahoans, not Californians. The Californians are the Orange County republicans who colonized Idaho in the 1980s, turning it into a red state for the first time in our history. It was conservatives who moved here and changed it for the worse, not liberals. We were doing just fine before Cali moved here and started banning books and so forth. We actually *like* having rights here, at least we liberals in Boise like that. The rest of Idaho doesn't like rights so much anymore, which is why they always vote for the party who takes all our rights away. But lately they gave special rights to rapists so they and their family can have visitation rights to the rape babies they raped into existence with an assist from the state legislature who also gave them the special rights to visitation. Freedom should not include the right to rape someone and then get to force your victim to endure your presence for the next 18 years on the regular. That should still be considered a crime. It is, but after the rapist leaves prison they are then free to "be in the life of" the woman they raped, whose life they ruined by knocking her up and then the state forcing her at gunpoint to bear the rapists' baby and then endure his entire family and their claws all over her baby.

      @LTRegulate 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

I'm not Craig, but yes all those towns he mentioned are much more conservative than Boise. Boise is close to going down a slippery slope, but have not fallen to the levels of Portland, LA, Seattle etc, and I completely agree the downtown area and parks fell very safe and are for the most part clean with very little homelessness evident. Boise PD will take care of business, they are doing their jobs, not hampered yet completely by politicians who tie their hands behind their back. We moved from CA to the Eagle/Star area and love it! Should have done it years ago. Lots of conservative transplants that have fled the left coast.

Boise is a cultural paradise. If you don't like homelessness, tell it to Reagan who closed all the mental hospitals. We've had homeless people ever since. I live near three homeless shelters and my neighborhood has basically zero crime. The only time a bike has been stolen from my yard was after a big BSU football game when some drunk jock decided he needed my bike more than I did.

As someone who was born here, I have to say, it is more conservative than liberal.
I'm 60 now. When I was in the military, I was stationed in very conservative states that had more of a homeless population and higher crime than Boise.
And that was during the Reagan administration.

The city will grow…… eventually the Boise population will out number everyone else in the state (see Colorado voting history), and everyone is F#%^^%^*…… will happen about the time Eastern Oregon merges, hopefully delays that inevitability…..

Ideally Boise, like so many other historically more conservative cities, won't become liberal like the cities everyone is fleeing to move to places like Boise, Utah (where we currently live), Tennessee, Arizona, Florida, Texas, etc...hopefully people leave their politics behind in the places they're fleeing and take a long hard look at what has happened to once great states like California (my home state where I lived 30+ years), Washington, and Oregon and learn from the mistakes made of allowing extreme liberalism to ruin them in just about every way you can imagine (lack of safety, homelessness, dirtiness, extreme cost of living from over taxation, etc)

@@livinginidaho Idaho in general is more aligned with my political beliefs. Most important to me is a state that isn't infringing on my second amendment rights. The Boise area in general appears to be a bit more affordable than Kootenai County in the Panhandle, and I can't afford homes in that area. Ideally, I would be able to find a place that I could buy outright after I sell my house in Washington State. Looking to be able to own with no mortgage. However, I would consider mortgaging a workshop on the property with the house. Areas surrounding Boise would also be fine, I do want the schools to be decent. BSU being nearby is a plus for my kids for college.

If you've ever read the constitution then you know its supposed to be congress writing the laws not judges. But hey, conservatives have never really cared about principles or anything, let alone the constitution. And our current supreme court writes a lot of laws, vetoes a lot of laws. They do a lot of stuff that the constitution forbids.
