Using Hard and Soft Returns Correctly

I'm learning so much from your videos, they're great. What drives me crazy is that when applying heading1 and I do a hard return, the next line sometimes doesn't go back to Normal. This happens as well as when I enter a hyperlink. The hyperlink format continues on the next line. I have to clear the formatting in both instances. I don't understand why this is happening? Have you come across this issue? Thanks.
