I heard that Obsidian had nothing to do with this new 'enhanced' version of The Outer Words but Take Two and Private Division were the ones responsible. It was a cash grab all along. Truly lives up to Spacer's Choice standards. PS: You can get everything that this upgrade has by downloading a FREE mod that increases the level cap and enhances the visuals, without the drawbacks of abysmal framerate and shader compilation stutters.

So apparently a year later its patched and running great. I picked this up on Epic for free and it runs amazingly on my ryzen 5 pc with a 1070 mini graphics card. I really don’t think this version is that bad… the framerate goes down a little on my Series X, but the visuals do look nicer, there’s a bit more depth to it. Worth the fiver that it cost to buy.
I play with a ryzen 7700x and 3080 ti with 32gb memory and my system was running at about 30-40fps while playing The Outer Worlds Spacers Choice Edition and I have it at 4k and the other settings are mostly at high to ultra settings except shadows but what I found is that if you to to Settings-> Graphics there is an option called 3D resolution. I turned it down to 80% and now my game runs at 60fps or sometimes higher. Hopefully this helps :)
steam reviews say that after the 1.4 update the stuttering issues have been corrected and it is actually a playable game now. im looking forward to getting it from humble bundle at the end of the month (july 2023)
I’m gonna be brutally honest. I liked all the visual changes. The new faces and sky boxes is a night and day difference for me. I thought that most of the characters looked plain and boring. Also it runs fine on my series x I haven’t had much issues.
I didn't buy it or dlc first time around. I bought this for series x. I haven't noticed the frame rate drops or AI malfunctions. Everything looks great and feels great. One thing that is off though, are many boxes are empty when going to loot them... Some bodies are empty as well. I can wander off a bit, and when I come back, the loot would have generated. Hopefully this is fixed in the patch. That said, I'm having a blast playing again and look forward to the patch.
Guys this is a 4 month old review. If you go to the steam reviews now most recent "Mostly positive" and reviews are saying it looks like the game was patched up to fix the issues.
It's probably Shader caching. Which is independent of the power of you machine, even the best graphics cards can't stop stuttering. Usually once the cache is build, in example after you see some object for the first time and the shader cache kicks in, then after it it is cached. Meaning it won't stutter for this particular item anymore. If Shader cache is the problem here, then playing same section another time won't stutter.
Me personally I play on Xbox Series S and I compared the original with the spacers choice edition and it was definitely an upgrade in my opinion, I did have a few small problems but over all it was great for me but that’s just my opinion.
Odd thing is I never experienced any crashes with my current playthrough only time I had a bug was frames dropping when visiting the chairman's office (I forgot the building name it's towards the end game on Bizentyme)

Haven’t played Spacer’s Choice Ed. so can’t speak to performance - but where I disagree with Matty fundamentally is the level cap. I liked this game, in its time...and a HELL of a soundtrack. They're working on "The Outer Worlds 2". The trailer is here on YT. Thanks for your videos, Mr. Matty!
Thanks for jumping on the grenade on this one. I was in a wait and see mode about upgrading for this very reason. I also fall the camp of people who loved Fallout New Vegas but only liked this game. I played it and all the dlc but don't see a reason to go back.
I didn't love the game as much as you did, but I did like it. The thing is I remember the very first Fallout game and.......I kinda felt the same way about it as I do about The Outer Worlds, it was good but not as good as its premise had me hoping. But then Fallout 2 came out and it was everything I had dreamed Fallout 1 would be. Fallout 1 laid the groundwork, it built a solid foundation for the IP and set up the universe the player would inhabit. With all that out of the way the second game came out swinging and it hit big time. More than a few folks at Obsidian came from that development background. They laid the groundwork with The Outer Worlds and I am hoping the sequel comes out swinging now there is a solid foundation established. Anyway, that was a bit of a sidetrack considering this video was about the Spacers Choice edition. Pity its a shitshow, glad this popped up in my feed and I dodged a bullet here. I mean maybe they can fix it, but I already have the original game and its DLC and it looks fine, the whole game is just fine the way it is. Going to just wait now and anticipate the release of the sequel.
The character model change reminds me of the Fallout Character Overhaul mod for New Vegas. Sure it's more detailed, but it really doesn't look any better.
I bought the $10 upgrade, and I really didn’t have any issues past the first round of combat I went through. Just a tiny bit of frame rate drop, but it went away pretty quickly. Nothing like the stuttering he showed and definitely no problems with the AI. And I’m only on the Xbox Series S. And I have to say that if he thinks the combat is that easy, he’s clearly not playing on hard difficulty. That’s what I play it on, and while it’s not dark souls level hard it’s definitely not easy. Honestly I’m glad I paid the $10, and I have no regrets.
Hi, I want to try the Outer Worlds, but I cannot choose between the original and this one. Did the fix the spacer's choice edition or it still has the same issues?
I got it on epic games for free like a week ago(im guessing you missed it :( ) and it runs good, im using rx 5700xt and have most settings in high with some medium. Some fluctuactions here and there but overall fps hasnt bothered me
I've played through the main game and most of Gorgon on my series X. I can't say performance has been perfect, but the frame rate has been pretty consistent with occasional stutters. It definitely looks better than the original game on xbox. I did find the AI enemies standing still a few times though. So seems like it might be a bigger issue on PC.
Can we all just admit that the Outer Worlds was Mid and that the people currently working at Obsidian had nothing to do with the success with New Vegas. Essentially the same thing what happens to Pixar.
I dunno about the rank and file or guys that were slightly lower on the totem pole but the head guys are still there Urquhart, Sawyer, Cain and Boyarsky, Avellone is the only notable absence. It's why it's a headscratcher this game was aggressively average.
Awesome game. No need for this version, since the OG version with DLCs runs perfect 60FPS on the Series X. My only complaint about the Outer Worlds is that it isn't truly "open world".
I really haven't seen any issues on the XSX version, to be honest. There are a few shutters here and there, but overall it runs and looks great. If you have the DLC, this is only $9.99 on Game Pass.
Ya honestly there is always a “bad game bad” train everyone hops on even though they haven’t played the game. I don’t doubt there is issues but I highly doubt they are as bad as people claim and they will eventually fix it. I bought the game last night on sale.
The big draw for me with this upgrade was the dynamic weather, but I haven't seen anyone mention anything about it. I'm guessing it's just as disappointing as the rest of the package?
My understanding is that Obsidian didn't have anything to do with this, that it was Private Division making a cash grab. Missed opportunity here. I really don't think the graphics needed an overhaul due to their "AA" stylized look, which I liked. As far as the level caps, not only are they unnecessary, but you get diminishing returns on higher levels anyway, since your skills start costing more, as in you can only increase 1pt at a time. But yeah, I don't think I hit the level cap when I beat the game, and if I did, I definitely didn't feel like it was restricting me. The original game is so great. The story, the world building, the rich, rich atmosphere. That moment when you open the doors on the Groundbreaker and just see a FLOOD of neon signs. I was smitten.
You're correct that Obsidian had no involvement here. Unfortunately it seems that hasn't been made clear and people in the comments here are complaining how MS and Obsidian screwed up.
@@CrazyxEnigma Oof, not the first time for them either. It's too bad because I think they're a great studio. At least they have Microsoft giving them $$ now. I would love to see them get the Fallout IP back. Just to come full circle, and so we'll get the game this decade heh.
@@sydhamelin1265 I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Avowed and OW2. Budget has always been an issue for them and now that isn't the case anymore.
Never gonna change to finish this game. My save file got corrupted and then the disc disappeared somewhere. I was going to buy it on Steam when it was on sale, but I missed it by a day.
I bought it about a week ago. Been working great after the most recent updates! I've been enjoying it alot. Didn't notice any AI issues since most game have their goofy AI moments lol. Also the environments look a good bit better IMO. The faces come down to preference I think. I looked at comparisons and didn't really think either looked better. Anyone considering spacers choice id recomend giving it a try, also FSR 2.O doesn't look bad and really helps performance (I keep it off on my 3080 tho). Hope some new people can enjoy the game, new or old!
Upgraded for £5 but never played the original or downloads though I bought them on release sale a while back. The Series X seems fine so-far about 3hrs in . FPS is not an issue, it does look better too.
This is sad cause I played the switch version when that came out, and it was so muddy but I still pushed through the main game and enjoyed the experience and the story. So naturally after getting a Series S, and hearing about this upgrade I was ready to dive in with the “best version” of the game and finally play the DLC. Sadly, I get to wait longer for patches on this version before I drop any money on a broken product. Unless I hear otherwise about the Series S/X version I suppose
To me this just the game to knock the proverbial dust off for obsidian. I was just looking for if they still could make an rpg with choice and in that aspect they did pretty good
Y'know the fallout background music is perfect when I dont even realize you've had it playing for 5 minutes. Man I wish Fallout wasn't in the state it's in...
So sad hearing this.... Does anyone know if things got better with patches? I just got spacers choice in my humble choice subscription and I've been wanting to play Outer Worlds for awhile....
Y'know what would make it an instant _Buy now?_ MODS. Fallout 4 and Skyrim have mods on Xbox, Games like Conan Exiles, Valheim, Bannerlord 2, Outer Worlds, ALL would be made better, and there're already pre-existing modding communities on PC. Like I still keep going back to Skyrim and Fallout even now!
Definitely got a little overhyped as part of the “Bethesda Bad” narrative at the time but now the pendulum has overcorrected and swung to far the other way in terms of public sentiment
This game benefited greatly releasing not long after Bethesda's blunder with FO76. It's the least memorable Obsidian game and aggressively average. Though Obsidian had nothing to do with this garbage blame falls on Take Two and Private Division.

I love how you have been using songs from KH in the background on your videos, man.
Should the final verdict come before any patches or final “ updates “
Playing this on the PS5 and having no issues
Some fluctuactions here and there but overall fps hasnt bothered me
Yeah, I missed it 😢 I am thinking of buying it though@@BOSs-1313
Spacers Choice has gotten 4 or so patches. Is it fixed? The visual changes are still there though.
The color and visual changes are ...interesting? i've been playing it on stream these past few weeks. The stutters are pretty much gone now.
«It's not the best edition, it's Spacer's Choice Edition»
love the twilight town theme in the background
The kingdom hearts background music brought back so many good memories
Another issue I have is that my save from the original does not transfer over....
I've played through the main game and most of Gorgon on my series X. I can't say performance has been perfect, but the frame rate has been pretty consistent with occasional stutters. It definitely looks better than the original game on xbox. I did find the AI enemies standing still a few times though. So seems like it might be a bigger issue on PC.
im playing this 6 months later , i got the spacers choice edition , it runs awful . it crashes the amd drivers . i don't get it
What is the music in this video from its late and I can’t remember 😢
Can we all just admit that the Outer Worlds was Mid and that the people currently working at Obsidian had nothing to do with the success with New Vegas. Essentially the same thing what happens to Pixar.
Preach
I dunno about the rank and file or guys that were slightly lower on the totem pole but the head guys are still there Urquhart, Sawyer, Cain and Boyarsky, Avellone is the only notable absence. It's why it's a headscratcher this game was aggressively average.
Awesome game. No need for this version, since the OG version with DLCs runs perfect 60FPS on the Series X. My only complaint about the Outer Worlds is that it isn't truly "open world".
I don't know why there's Kingdom Hearts 2 music playing the background, but it certainly made me keep watching the video
Just because you didn't have the issues described doesn't mean other people didn't.
@@CrazyxEnigma I don’t think he is suggesting that
i got the base game for 9$ recently and i love it so far i would like to get the complete edition in time
Soacer Choice Edition:
Got a 42(+) GB update last night - wonder what has been fixed or/and updated ?
And your genius brain decided to go under a youtube comment section to seek answers, instead of testing?
The big draw for me with this upgrade was the dynamic weather, but I haven't seen anyone mention anything about it.
I'm guessing it's just as disappointing as the rest of the package?
This dude is extremely to positive to his favorite company in the world
My understanding is that Obsidian didn't have anything to do with this, that it was Private Division making a cash grab.
Just play the old version on Series x/s. The only upgrade you need is a hardware upgrade.
What song is that in the backround of the video? Love it
That obsidian seal of quality.
Only putting out better under Xbox.
Charging full price for a nearly 4 year old game is insane. I know it has visual upgrades and includes the dlc, but it shouldn't be more than 40$
Sony has entered the chat lol
I hear you, but companies keep doing it and getting away with it because they know people will still buy it at full price.
I am just now getting back to TOW and the DLC and oh boy do I love it. Just wish it performed better on PC.
To me this just the game to knock the proverbial dust off for obsidian. I was just looking for if they still could make an rpg with choice and in that aspect they did pretty good
Patch 1.1 has been released for PC and PS5 as of 10 am CST , Friday March 17. Xbox Series patch to be released by Wednesday the 22nd of March
Y'know the fallout background music is perfect when I dont even realize you've had it playing for 5 minutes. Man I wish Fallout wasn't in the state it's in...
Almost 5 minutes, the KH music next was also very welcome ❤️
This was more than likely a Strauss Zelnick (Take two) call not Obsidian
So sad hearing this.... Does anyone know if things got better with patches? I just got spacers choice in my humble choice subscription and I've been wanting to play Outer Worlds for awhile....
Nice Twilight Town theme in the background there 😉
Ty so much for the Twilight Town music!
The background music is very distracting and far too loud.
Great taste with the kingdom hearts music Mr. Matty!!!! Kh2 has my favorite ost 🙌
1:00 Those look like before and after a remaster images. But which one is the improved? They go from crisp to dark and blurry?
Definitely got a little overhyped as part of the “Bethesda Bad” narrative at the time but now the pendulum has overcorrected and swung to far the other way in terms of public sentiment
Two things can be true at once. Bethesda can be bad and this edition of a game is bad.
This game benefited greatly releasing not long after Bethesda's blunder with FO76. It's the least memorable Obsidian game and aggressively average. Though Obsidian had nothing to do with this garbage blame falls on Take Two and Private Division.
They should be held accountable for lying to the ones that pay their bills. Great video. Thank you.
