The bane of my existence in Diamond was that Lucario - it type-trumped anything I threw at it until I made it Struggle itself down (thanks to 99 Revives).
It is incredible planning using features that weren't intended to be used this way. There's a video of a full sweep using a level 1 Aron in my favorites, if you want to see more Sturdy-induced WTFness.

Okay, I just found out the answer to the question I just asked: Serebii's wrong. Cynthia DOES have only one Full Restore. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but check out Giancarloparimango's video of the fight. Spiritomb, Eelektross and Lucario ALL end up hanging on with nearly nothing left, but only Spiritomb got the Full Restore treatment. And Giancarlo's guilty of a LOT of bad stuff, but trying the same fight over and over until Cynthia uses only one... what would the point be?
@Slowflake Yeah..Vaporeon might get better with this as well. I'm worried about this sturdy thing... Doesn't Donphan learn Ice Shard and endever?? A nice way to suprise something that would normally KO it in 1 hit. This combo with Wish/Bliss may be a problem.
In Undella Town, which is a post-game area. Don't worry, it's not mandatory, it's one of these super-hard optional fights, though technically the E4 rematches are harder because you have to run a gauntlet of FIVE trainers with levels in the 70s.
That was truly, truly impressive. To even be able to come up with such tactics, which allows you to beat the whole team of a trainer with such high level pokemon, only with level one pokemon. Even though I just saw it right here, it is hard to believe. I bow to you AeroValkyrie, you are truly a genius among geniuses.
@buckie92 Flail is constrained by the user's attack stat. At 1 HP remaining, it would be a very strong attack with 200 base power. However, since it's only a lv 1 pokemon using it, the damage done by the attack would be very little.

To be fair, "ru" is how the letter L is pronounced in Japanese (see: Diaruga > Dialga). Besides, romanization can make names a little easier to pronounce. Which would you prefer, Boruterosu or Boltros? Besides, romanizing legendary names usually gives their names in English, only 5 of the 34 previously existing legendaries changed names from Japanese to English outside of romanization.
I take it you don't breed Pokémon too much then, eggs hatch at level 1 in gens 4 and 5. Fun thing is, I just explained why in my newest LP video (a flawed experience formula would make some Pokémon have negative experience at level 1, and it was only fixed in gen 4 for some reason).
@LastActionCowboy Bulbapedia's breeding article, under "Passing moves down" : "The Pokémon will start with any moves that it would learn by leveling up only if both parents know the move." This information is very easy to find if you take just a couple minutes to actually go look.

The difference is that Leftovers and ingrain heal based on the user's total HP (1/16th) whereas leech seed heals based on the seeded pokemon's total HP (1/8th). It's a full heal in this case because the seeded Spiritomb has so much more HP than the lv 1.
@buckie92 Counter would only work if it's a physical attack. It does twice the damage done to the user, which would NOT be massive given how little HP a lv 1 pokemon has. Or does counter return damage that WOULD have been done? It might work in that case, but afaik it wouldn't do very much damage.
To be fair, it was never purely a kids' game. The competitive aspect was so deep from day one, there was something for everyone even back then, even though that aspect of the game only really became mainstream with D/P's release and the possibility for battling anyone in the world through Wi-Fi (even though simulators have always beaten the pants off of cartridge battling, and probably always will).

There's just one problem with that idea, though. Opponents' items are programmed to be used AUTOMATICALLY when certain circumstances are met. There's no ifs or buts, an item WILL be used 100% of the time when that happens. So how do you explain what happened now? Either Serebii's wrong, or something in the strategy is bypassing the Full Restores - which would happen all the time, since because all the damage done is indirect, there's no danger of low or high damage rolls occuring.
@Slowflake wait a minute... So when Blissey uses wish, the receiver heals 300+HP??? What happens if Pinceo/foretress get's Blissey's Wish bak to full health?? Well..I'm not to knowleged with this new generation yet. I'm just Glad that Ninetails got a boost. She's my fav pokemon.
@ubershyguy8 Not 100% sure on this, but it looks like it can Froslass and Probopass (Nose pass evolve) can be tutor'd to learn Pain Split, and both are in the same egg group. So maybe if you put them both in day care, a Nosepass that knows pain split can be born? In Soul Silver and Heart gold anyway
@Doublethree1 A "nuzlocke" run is a challenge run that some players choose to do. There are a few rules.. you have to catch the first Pokemon you find in a new area, and that's the ONLY Pokemon you can catch in that area. And if any Pokemon faints even once, you have to release it and raise a new one. That's about it, but it's pretty ha rd.
@eeHalcyon Won't quite work. Trainers replace Pokemon *after* all the moves go through, so in this scenario Pain Split would 'miss' due to no target, and then Cynthia replaces the Lucario.
No. The only thing that's kept when you switch in or out is permanent status, such as burn or sleep (except for Natural Cure users, obviously). Temporary statuses like Leech Seed or confusion go away when you switch.

The Focus Sash ALWAYS disappears. In-game it's lost forever, but in the Battle Frontier or against a human player it comes back after the fight. Same as berries and other consumables.
I'm not done with White yet, I just got the ability to surf, so right now I'm going back to all the places I couldn't go to before. But so far it's great... three minor complaints would be the apparent lack of length of the main story compared to RSE and DPP, the bland map layout and yet another 150-Pokémon regional Dex, but otherwise I'm blown away. Prior to this I considered Platinum to be the perfect Pokémon package, but B/W dares to go where Platinum didn't in many departments.
@sonicheroable Actually, it's possible to catch Trapinch in the White Forest. It might not be available on your game because only 5 or 6 Pokemon will appear, and it's kind of random. But if you visit Black City through a Pokemon Black player's Entralink, you can change the wild Pokemon that appear in White Forest. At the same time, you would modify what trainers the Black player could find in Black City. It's kind of weird.
If you ask me, it's amazing that he thought of this. It doesn't take the same kind of skill as most stuff in the game (or any game for that matter), but I think the ability to plan everything like that, exploiting every weakness the AI and game mechanics have, is a skill of its own.
That wouldn't be possible, because several Pokémon are required to beat some of hers. However, it might be doable on an unpatched ROM, since you can't gain experience on that due to an anti-piracy measure.

Spiritomb stops all FEARs, whether it's Rattata, Phanpy, Cleffa, Aron or anything else, dead cold. Garchomp and Lucario also mean the end of any variant that relies on sandstorm.
Because Sucker Punch only works if the opponent uses a direct damage move, and off the top of my head I don't think one was used throughout the entire battle.
Okay, please answer me this. If you Baton Passed Ingrain to a level 1 Pokemon, would that strategy then work because of Sturdy? Pokemon gets attacked. Sturdy keeps it at 1 HP. Then you could have it use Counter or Flail to get massive damage. The, Ingrain heals you back up to full health.
One question, does Sturdy in Gen 5 work when the user uses explosion? Like when a pokemon uses explosion having sturdy in gen 5, will it still kill it or will it remain with one hp?

Actually, I like what they were going for from a competitive standpoint. It would've actually been pretty awesome had it not been for entry hazards, and the only immunity to the most common one comes from Magic Guard - and obviously you can't have two abilities at the same time.
That makes sense, because this strategy revolves around the fact that his Pokémon have incredibly low HP. Medium-HP Pokémon wouldn't be able to pull this off.

It is indeed, but beating a team in the mid-70s with level 1s is more impressive on paper. Besides, someone pointed out the main game portion of my Platinum LP was a heartbeat away from being a Nuzlocke, and it wasn't even intended as one

AeroValkyrie is a master at using troll-licious techniques to defeat cynthia. toxic, spikes, toxic spikes, leech seed; these moves and protecting moves as well as the pokemon being level 1 (and it being better to heal that way) make this an amazing feat
Hey, Skarmory needed something, it partially got its throne usurped by Gliscor. Besides, someone improved a lot more on the grounds of old moves being changed, namely Blissey. Now that Wish is based on the user's HP instead of the receiver's, and that Explosion and Selfdestruct no longer temporarily halve defense... you do the math.

@Biglasers Magnemite is in the mineral egg category. The only pokémon in the no egg category are babies and legendaries.

But the Focus Sash disappears after one use, so it doesn't work.

No, because Leftovers only heals a tiny fraction of your HP. Sturdy only kicks in if you're hit while at full HP, just like the Focus Sash.

Apparently they tweaked the experience system a bit to reward fighting with a level disadvantage.
It'd be the same damage you used to do with a single one, but over two turns, since they removed the defense-halving subroutine.

@shadowscrap666 Yeah but you are going to have to make sure the pokemon you want to have entry hazards on have them from the previous game since stuff like stealth rock isn't a TM anymore in BW and not alot of pokemon learn it at all in the game.
AeroValkyrie is a master at using troll-licious techniques to defeat cynthia. toxic, spikes, toxic spikes, leech seed; these moves and protecting moves as well as the pokemon being level 1 (and it being better to heal that way) make this an amazing feat
Hey, Skarmory needed something, it partially got its throne usurped by Gliscor. Besides, someone improved a lot more on the grounds of old moves being changed, namely Blissey. Now that Wish is based on the user's HP instead of the receiver's, and that Explosion and Selfdestruct no longer temporarily halve defense... you do the math.
Does anyone know what moveset Ducklett had?
how are they getting to cynthia with just level ones? wouldn't they have to fight the other elite 4? which would make them level up
