Hello, I am a Costa Maya official tour guide. Chacchoben is the most popular archaeological site in Costa Maya, and due to its closeness to the Port compared to other Maya ruins, it gets a lot of visitors. Chacchoben is a recently discovered site and the ancient city is not as big as others, so the monuments have to be preserved. In the past, many Mayan ruins were wrecked by irresponsible visitors, so we would really appreciate that when you come, you see more the historical relevance of the site rather than the 'cool-awesome' side of it.
