- Dr. Ron Glasberg discusses "Learning for Liberty" at TEDxYYC 2011.
Ronald Glasberg has been teaching history of ideas courses at the U. of C. for the last 22 years and garnered about a dozen teaching excellence awards along with the Presidents Circle award for teaching. He also delivered the 2009 "Lecture of A Lifetime" sponsored by the U. of C. Senate and will be delivering another one March 22nd, wherein he explores the interface between science and spirituality.
To foster community in the classroom Ron has adopted the tribal approach to life discussed by Daniel Quinn in Beyond Civilization. An explosive creativity is fostered by allowing students to articulate how they learn best and harness thereby their inherent talents to get through the course material. To the extent that a classroom is a kind of mini-community, to that extent is it an opportunity to develop the discursive skills necessary for the larger community to develop a culture of freedom.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

I took classes from Dr. Glasberg in the late 80s. He is an amazing thinker and I can say that no one opened my mind like he did. The world needs more people like him.
This man changed my life
He really has changed my life. I feel so grateful for all the knowledge he has shared with me and for being able to spend time with him.
me too. This man made me who I am today
This man changed my life. So thankful I had the honor and privilege of taking a class with him.
Me too. He made me the man I am today
he teaches life.
there's no more profound statement than that!
"Classification" = putting people into classes.
Nice.
