That's friggin' cake! I've got to jerk my transmission this summer sometime, resurface the flywheel, replace the pressure plate, and teach myself how to rebuild the NP435 (it is getting pretty loud and loose - not popping out of gear yet though) .. The handle had me wondering how I was going to get that out, but you have now pleasantly shown me that is isn't difficult at all.
Got mine off! Trans still in truck. Now I am trying to get it back on but I was not in neutral. And cannot get it back on, I think it is in gear. And the rods will not move. Any ideas of how to find neutral?
You should be able to see the slot that the shifter slips into and you don't need to fully set it to shift. Line up the arm of the shifter with the slot and slip it down as far as you can go. Then rotate the input or output shaft a little and try shifting into neutral without the shifter fully seated. It will be sloppy but you should be able to find neutral.
Sorry, but no. If you run into any problems feel free to ask. It's pretty straight forward, the hardest part is getting the transmission lined up going back in. I highly suggest a pair of hands in the cab guiding you as you work from the bottom side.
Awesome! I have an NP 435 in my 71 F100 4X4 and couldn't work out how to remove the stick, now I know. Thanks😊👍
Thank you. This will make life much easier during removal.
“An eighth of a turn” was all I could think about fighting that thing out of a 62 dodge

F#*k, wish I knew this ahead of time. We pulled the aluminum cover. This will be a gig help when we put it back in.
Thank you!The FSM doesn’t describe this process very well.
