    Remember the saying, “No good deed goes unpunished.” Cracker Barrel is not the only restaurant that doesn’t allow employees to give away food. Thank the people who brought us a litigious society; as well as, some people trying to make a quick, easy, dollar from someone’s kindness. No more giving away the left-overs.

    As a person who has worked at a Cracker Barrel for 3 years, it’s as ridiculous & anal as it’s portrayed. They cut hours just to save money, make you do tasks that were not in your job description, and will try to prevent you from trying to protest. The turnover rate is stupidly huge, the pay isn’t worth it, and management is not only inconsistent, it’s also degrading towards all of the other employees below them. Would never work there again!

      The issues stems from the fact that it's usually the leftovers or the end of the shift items that are given out to the homeless. That's why most of the rules/laws were made, so that when given moldy or older items that could make someone sick it becomes exponentially worse when that person doesn't have the means to help themselves get better, leading to a whole mess of accountability issues legally and ethically

      My location broke their own policies and also laws all the time. I reported things to corporate and eventually they fired me for "insubordination" after continuously giving me contradicting orders from different managers. This didn't happen until a new GM showed up. After my firing, i followed up with some of my favorite coworkers who said they tried to transfer but each one got fired the day after asking. My regulars found me at another restaurant and started telling me about how awful the service and food had become, especially when the managers were involved. Manager at my new restaurant had an underage niece start working at the cracker barrel and told me about how they changed her clock out times after she left so as not to break child labor laws (or have proof of it). The few good managers that location saw would heavily hint at wrongdoing among the other managers, but couldn't outright say anything to me, and very quickly transferred to other locations.

    The Food is consistent every time you go there as it is in packages that all they have to is just heat it. Service is service - sometimes you get a good courteous waitress who checks back often for refills etc. doesn’t happen all the time. They normally don’t write down the order requests and this is an issue- the real bummer is they sweep the floors while your eating - not a good practice- I’ve mentioned it to the local Mgr but falls on deaf ears - They also no longer give 10% discount to Vets - they told me last night that I had to be on Active duty and in full uniform to get the discount- even Arbiy s gives Vets a 15% discount with no uniform or active duty requirements- finally.. the stuff they have for sale in the lobby is way out of line! I doubt seriously that they sell much merchandise-

    The last time I went to a Cracker Barrel I ordered sausage and eggs. The eggs were extra small and the sausages looked like quarters. Since I was a guest I didn't complain at the time but my wife and I did have to go to another restaurant because we were still hungry. They have a very nice souvenir shop but I will never go there to eat again.

      I agree with you. I was in Salt Lake City visiting relatives and took them out to Cracker Barrel’s for dinner and went away disappointed in the size of the servings. Don’t plan to put them on one of places to eat anymore.

    Be aware that when they had a gift card of $10. at thanksgiving time when you purchased a family dinner , they wouldn't give it to you, saying its on a e-mail, its here, its there. Won't go back. Sorry there are too many places in California that need our help with food.

    I ate some roast beef with gravy at our Cracker Barrel Restaurant today and last week and it was so tender it just fell apart and was really delicious. But I decided to order what I thought was the same roast beef to go. it took nearly 20 minutes to get it ready considering it was being served in the restaurant already. Something didn't seem quite right because what I ate in the restaurant isn't what I brought home and ate. The roast beef I ate at home was very tough and obviously wasn't baked for 12 hours like they claim. I should have gotten the same meat that I was served in the restaurant and it sure in hell wouldn't have taken 20 minutes for me to get either, since all they had to do was take it up and add gravy. Never again will I take roast beef home if Cracker Barrel is going to pull that on me.

    A few other things everyone should know about Cracker Barrel:
    Be aware that the portions are minuscule, especially the sides. I hear that used to be different, but for the last few years at least, they're really stingy with the food. My Mom ordered country ham and got something that looked like half a slice of deli ham. 5-6 small french fries in each of our orders and a single mouthful of their hashbrown casserole. The trout fillet was tasty, but paper thin. We both went away hungry.
    If you're a vegetarian or vegan, you won't find a meal here. Even most of their vegetables are cooked in animal fat.
    Cracker Barrel isn't handicap friendly. You have to pass through the shop, full of gaudy, overpriced junk to get to the restaurant. It's so overcrowded that it was a real chore trying to get my wheelchair through. The food wasn't worth the struggle.

    • @johnharrison6745
      @johnharrison6745 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. That hasn't been my experience.
      2. Couldn't care less about vegans.
      3. True; but the staff and customer have been very helpful and friendly toward me and my wheelchair-bound father.

    I tried a ham steak breakfast once, was disappointed with the size of the ham. Small, thin & had the bone in it . The multiple sides that came with it weren't my choices, they came with it. I tried them but didn't like them. So i left there still hungry.

      I wonder if they know if they would bag the food individually, tie it up and place it on top of the dumpster then if someone got it they could not be held accountable for it...I talked a Dunkin donuts into doing that with their leftover croissants and donuts and bagels they tie them up individually.... a bag of bagels, a bag of donuts and a bag of croissants and set it on top of the dumpster and people do come and get it but that way it takes the liability off of the company... maybe you could try to run it by them and see if they would do the same.

    • @tarandajones2154
      @tarandajones2154 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Michele Theriault it really is sad.... but what's even sadder is that most of the people that are waiting in the dark in the bushes for the food aren't even in shelters they are on the street...i have seen whole families waiting for them to close....but i have noticed mcdonalds in some places do it also....the bag their buns and they bag the burgers and place them on the side of the dumpster...law is if its "at" the dumpster, it is considered trash and are no longer liable for the product.
