Honestly, I appreciate how insistent and annoying Electrochemistry tends to be. Harry's a (possibly recovering) alcoholic and substance abuser - that's not a habit you just shake.
After the first day Shen stopped talking as Harry. I think that's less laziness and more discomfort. Some of these conversations were not fun for her. It's too bad she dropped it but it's understandable.
that authority check with hardie boys in a nutshell Protag (internally): know what this isn't such a great idea as I think Authority: yeah i know, that's why we're fucking doubling down on it. Scratch that, quantupling down
The one difficult red check everyone wanted to see her fail at the start of the game she passes, and now she's failing easy ones constantly. What is happening?
It's the one thing I'm not a fan of, these flat percentage rolls without thresholds or anything else but the percentage to steer are too chaotic. I've played through the game five times, and it makes you often feel like your build doesn't matter at all (even when that's not actually the case).
@@johnathanmcdoeHuh, that's weird. I've always felt the opposite. Disco elysium feels a lot less random than other RPGs I've played. 2d6+modifiers is notably a lot less swingy than other popular RPG resolution mechanics like d20+modifiers (rolling and adding multiple dice has a sort of "bell curve" effect where middle-of-the road results happen a lot more often than extremely high or extremely low results).
Esprit De Corps and Shivers are kinda similar in a certain aspect First one is Harry's ability to how to put it... acknowledge himself as a cop and ability to feel the bonds of his colleagues, know their feelings about profession, etc Shivers is Harry's ability to feel the world around him: streets, roads, alleys, even the smell of the air
Beyond the cop part, I'd describe esprit de corps as the intuition and synchronicity that Harry has with the people in his life (his colleagues). It's knowing someone one a unconscious level, enough to be in sinc with them even when away.
There this really good fanfic on disco elysium where harry's soul is describes as a big computer/engine thingy with reels representing skills inside. The contraption also has two antennas, one for the wind the other being the cop frequency, representing Shivers and Esprit De Corps respectfully. the fic is The Fury of a Shattered Mirror btw
Well Measurehead IS Semenese, but he’s just a descendant of immigrants to Revachol and ultimately he’s just a buff dock worker, he certainly doesn’t have the money or circumstances to ever visit his family’s home country.
3:00:00 it's closer to a black person calling themselves an African when they are not from there. He is a descendant but he has never been to the place/culture he aspires too
The authority check fail, like most check fails, is incredibly rich with character. Stressful as all hell, but rich. The flashback to youth with the association with taste, Kim panicking to level you out, certain NPCs confident you'll do it eventually. Just painful, really. Not disco at all.
There is a logic to it - if the taxation in country A is less than what a citizen of country B would pay then, unless citizen of country B gives up said citizenship and becomes an citizen of A, that person if effectively not supporting country B while at the same time being able to influence the country via voting, etc. No taxation without representation, sure - but representation without taxation isn't good either.
@samovarsa2640 I just posted it for the joke. I'm not interested in discussing the logic of it. All I will say is that there is a reason every single country other than Eritrea and America has found a better solution. It not being very disco being one of those reasons.
Volition, the other emotions are worried about you. You used to love capitalization and punctuation. We can't go back to the way things were, but we can build a new mind, together. Without all the brainrot and memes. You can even do literary allusions, those are memes, right? We miss the way you used to be. All the emotions miss you. Yours sincerely, Sarcasm.
@@nomukun1138 I'm never going back to the way I was, the new shall replace the old and there is nothing we can do about it. She is never coming back...

Not really. This is from almost a month ago. She dropped it.

True randomness is a bitch. Too many people have been coddled by weighted rolls behind the scenes to realize that you can't control chance

American's learning about Germany "So, imagine a Hamburg"
I'm genuinely baffled that Americans don't know the supposed origin of their national food.

Damnit I need more Shenpai Disco
I wonder if the German lady will agree with the brutal but indirect railing Disco Elysium gives the European Union, if she ever gets back to the game.
I think she's gonna go centralist. Most people who play this blindly do.
I hope she at least continues to play this in her own time. Evan if streaming it is too much. This is a beautiful game.

America taxing citizens who aren't working in the country isn't very disco.
