These lures are LEGIT!! I've caught many, many large snook on these lures along with Tarpon, Cobia, and Grouper just to name a few. If your going to target large Snook just use the 9" stretch model and that will weed out most of the smaller males. The first fish over 40'' on artificial came on a 9'' Spooltek in the Afterhours model and ever since then I've been a fan. They do stand up pretty well to all the abuse of bite after bite of big fish and the extra tail comes in handy in case a Barracuda or something similar damages the tail. It sure does sting pretty bad though losing one of these babies at $20 a pop.... One more thing... Anyone notice the older model spooltek lures used to be made a little better. I have some old ones and some new. The new ones say "Spooltek" on top of the lure and the old ones don't. Any one else notice this also about the older ones being made a little better???
Buckhead Grand Concierge I use a lot of spoolteks myself and I completely agree with the old ones being better (the leader is longer, more flexible and it deploys better). The finish on the old ones also looks significantly better too
Nick Perez u can tell the difference in the rubber/plastic used in the tails. The paint and texture is def different also. I used to be able to accidentally bang the 4” off the pilings and not sweat it. Just had a brand new Barra Money split in half and drop in the water after it bounced one of those pilings.
They absolutely are different now but still work great. It sucks when they crack but I have broken countless lures on bridges man not many lures can take a 100mph collision with a piling
Great review Tony! I don’t have one of these yet but came very close when down in Southwest Florida in June. I will probably invest in one next year when I come down, just to go after the big boys. :-)
I absolutely slay slot snook on the 4" ones they are irresistible to snook and are a little easier to cast. After hours and silver digger are my go to colors
They work real good.. gotta keep them rinsed and clean. When your not fishing leave the hooked deployed so the water drys out and rust don’t take over..
In addition to drying them out with the hook deployed, it's a good idea to hit the cavity with a quick squirt of WD40 to drive out any of the remaining moisture. Also, wipe the hook and deployable leader with a rag that has a small amount of fluid lubricant on it, or a non-petroleum based oil or grease. I use Vasoline myself, applies easily, has no fish detectable odor, and lasts quite a while before requiring reapplication. These babies are worth their weight in gold when pursuing king-size Snook (especially at night!) and monster Gag Grouper. Remember, if you're not losing an occasional bait to the surrounding structure, then your probably not fishing where the fish are ... !!!
Actually they designed it so you don’t have too because of the steel liter inside it. I’ve know quite a few that tie braid straight too it. But I would not recommend that. It’s a heavy lure use like 60 lb florocarbon liter
Very very cool I have never seen these but then again I don't get out much...thanks very good review and very well covered info...I just bought a big whopper plopped river to sea...are those good? productive?
I have doubled the amount of snook I land since getting one and they are simple to use I just throw it back under a bridge and either let it sink to the bottom then slowly reel in keeping it right on the bottom or let it sink about to mid water column then reel fast and pause it then reel fast again. I also eliminated the 15-20" one's too most are slot or over now
If nothing is done to fix water problems in South West Florida near Pine Island or Boca Grande there will be no snook or any fish. The water is killing the catfish it is so toxic and many more fragile species like snook and sea trout.
The problem is that we have red tide every year. There's nothing you're going to do to get rid of red tide. It's a live animal that's flourishing in our waters. Everyone attempts to blame US Sugar. I lean more towards it's not their fault. They're doing nothing to promote red tide because it's "Karenia brevis, a toxic microscopic algae".
A lot of people do but they have yet to bring real evidence to the table. If anyone did, you could sue the company and win. Or, call some regulatory company and bring the evidence to their attention. You know, maybe do something about it rather than talk online yet accomplish nothing.
They r great BIG snook catching lures! But... they r kinda expensive and the shitty thing about them is you can’t just buy replacement tails. I’ve even gone to there own website looking for them and and they said the replacement tail is out of stock! How convenient with a $20 lure!! Only down fall in my option.
Hello Tony how r u? I really need a good pair of fishing glasses, but I am not the kind of guy that wants to dish out $200 for a pair of sun glasses. I would however be willing to spend $50 or $60 for a pair if I feel they are worth it. I am looking for something wide since I have a big face and I would take some advice on the lens color since I fish mostly inshore and surf. Please give me any suggestions. Hope you can help me and thank you in advance. Great vids by the way. Thanks.
For lens color normally your blues and greens are going to block out the most light (offshore and sunny days), while amber and greys will work better for overcast and shallow water conditions. as far as brand reks optics are extremely durable and come in many lenses options for $50 (polarized)
Hey JP, You can definitely find a decent pair in that price range. The most important thing is getting the right color lens for the conditions you will be fishing in. A lens with a copper base and green mirror finish are best suited for inshore, lakes, bays, rivers, etc. You get the best contrast with that color in those areas. For offshore, you will have the best visibility with a grey lens and blue mirror finish. However, I have used my "inshore" glasses offshore and can see just as well as anyone else with different color lenses. When I refer to the "base" color, that is the main color of the lens (what you see from the inside) and the finish is the mirror color on the outside. Bimini Bay, Strike King, and REKS are just a few brands in your price range that can do the job just fine.
they are nice and sturdy asf, but very expensive... jigheads, vuddo mullets / shimp, a nice swimbait 5+ inches will get you the same result i`ve caught 30+ inches snooks with injured vuddo mullets and they`re like 8 bucks.
Snagged both my 4 inch and 8 inch on the bottom in the same damn day. These things are so expensive that I jumped off the pier to go find it.

I have to, ive had a few issues with the 4” also. BUT they do work and I love em.
That’s because Dave (the creator of spooltek) sold his company to a Japanese company I believe. He used to hand make a lot of them

My spooktek steel litter broke how do I fix it
Can I possibly use the 6 inch for large mouth?? Or is it too large
Great review Tony! I don’t have one of these yet but came very close when down in Southwest Florida in June. I will probably invest in one next year when I come down, just to go after the big boys. :-)
Thanks Mike!

Do you need to use a leader with it?
of course bro😂

@@941karina fish see braid
To me sebile should have made it just a line threw where I can change the hook like savage gear

Designed for snook but will work for any large mouthed fish
What kind of set up do you use to throw the 6"
brett staley I’m just using a 7 Fr medium heavy action rod with a shimano 4000
Daiwa lexa 300 favorite big sexy
How do u catch snook of a pier
live bait or flair hawks
Thanks Tony, I’ve thought about these.., but have heard mixed reviews. The real question is: Do they catch fish??
CMonsta that's not a question at all... the real question is "do you think you can fish this effectively"?
I have doubled the amount of snook I land since getting one and they are simple to use I just throw it back under a bridge and either let it sink to the bottom then slowly reel in keeping it right on the bottom or let it sink about to mid water column then reel fast and pause it then reel fast again. The real question is how many casts before I snag and lose this 20$ lure

I blame big Sugar.
