    The best spot is live... You go to your local casino on Friday/ Saturday nights to start out... if you can't beat mainly drunk people then you need to massively improve your game. Play tight at first then work bluffs into your game.

    In Texas you can literally grind tournaments for profit daily if you think your good enough. To be able to profit for a living however is a whole different beast. Not only do you have to have the bankroll to play the stakes required to profit enough to live comfortably, but you also have to handle the swings.
    Long term is it feasible as a full time job? No unless you want to play 5/10 or play 50+ hours a week.
    Can you profit consistently and use it as a dangerous side job? Much more likely.

      @pokercode This is really inspiring to hear. I have recently returned to poker after not playing for 10 years. I was a winning small stakes mtt player but moved to the US from Europe in 2011 and live in a state where poker was illegal so I never had any opportunity to play. The game has evolved soooo much since I last played but the small stakes mtt’s lately seem to be very beatable. I am trying to study poker a few hours per week as I work full time and life is hectic these days so don’t have the free time I used to have when I played before.
      It is my goal to try to be able to get to playing mid stakes and beating those games. This may take a while with the limited time I have to study the game however but I really enjoying learning so as long as I am progressing I don’t care as I have a good stable income with my day job. I am trying to make poker my supplemental income. Do you think this is a good way to think about it or does it require much more time to really advance to beat mid stakes in 2022? Many thanks, loved this video!!!

    Especially in the micros you can make easy money... For example play a 2.2 BB on PS and after 6 hours bust on FT 9th place for 9 dollars. And since it is so easy to make 9th place in a field of 6000 ppl you will climb that buy in ladder rly quick

    • @Melvinvanharn
      @Melvinvanharn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So lemme see, 6,000 times 2 is $12,000. And you got 9th place which was $9? That is.... Wrong? Fn a 600 person field, maybe. For reference, I'm playing in a $1.65 tournament with 361 entries and 202 re-buys. 9th place is $10.31. Either you're exaggerating, made a typo, or don't know what you're talking about. I might add that playing $2.20 tournaments is not exactly a "get rich quick" plan. A good ROI on tournaments is something like 10-30%. So even if your ROI is 100%, your hourly is still terrible playing $2 MTTs. Which I personally am okay with, because I'm still building my bankroll.

    • @manuelmillautz3319
      @manuelmillautz3319 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was exaggerating, still it was a bb tourney and something gets added to this pool also(lets assume you are not lucky making bountys - also exaggerating) . But then let it be 20 or 30 dollar for 9th. It is rly terrible because in a field of 6k+ you can be so much better than your opponents and still will make that a ft very rarely.

    • @Melvinvanharn
      @Melvinvanharn 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@manuelmillautz3319 At this point, I basically don't think you know what you're talking about. In a 6,000 person tournament, for 9th place, you should be making somewhere around 100x your buy-in. In a bounty tournament, obviously that goes down because part of the prize is from bounties. If you failed to knock anybody out and didn't get any bounties-well, that's pretty rare, especially to make it as deep as 9th place. I cannot possibly imagine the prize structure at Poker Stars is THAT skewed where 9th place in a 6k person tournament gets you $30, as opposed to something like $100-200.

    Overall if you take the best lawyers, agents, surgeons, real estate, stock market etc it’s much easier to make a LOT more money than playing poker. My advice is make a ton of money in your profession and then take the time to really learn poker and play semi professionally. I lost my Bar card for a few years and became a house player in some big games in Texas before the opening of legal poker clubs. I made $ but it was such a grind. Now I have my Bar card back and it’s much easier to get 20k for 5-10 hours of work, rather than playing 12-15 hours a day to win 3-5k a session and there’s nights you’re not gonna win. Since then poker has really changed and I relearned the game. I finish pretty regularly in top 10% and have multiple top 2-8 finishes but still haven’t won a big tournament. Fedor is 1 my favorite players and I believe that IQ plays a big role. Over 140 is going to beat the 110 95% of the time imo. I’d bet Fedor is between 140-160.

      @FizzyToni 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      For cash, I would say 2/5 can easily be enough for 30k a year even if you play only every weekend as long as you select your games well. 150k is obviously then five times bigger, but can be a lot tougher to achieve. For tournaments, probably around 250-300k in buy-ins per year for 30k profit, so if you play daily, around 1k in buy-ins, if you play once a week, maybe 5k or so. 150k requires again a lot bigger buy-ins

      Anchoring on specific dollar targets is not the best approach.. you should just be playing the game that allows you to win the most money. It’s entirely possible that a smaller game can be more profitable than a bigger game in certain circumstances. Game selection is crucial.

    Washington State ruined their poker industry in 1995 when they allowed poker rooms to switch to employ dealers in their poker games. Previously self-dealt games employed a time collection rate of $3/half hour per person, $106/hr for the table. The new dealer paradigm collected collected an average of over $300/hr from the same table of players between the house rake and dealer tips.

    Live cash will always be profitable to great poker players.
    Massive Tournaments are the worst thing to happen to poker.
    Say you work for living. The money you make will be taxed before it makes it into your pocket. Now you decide to use that TAXED money to buy into poker tournament. Whether you make into the money or not, the entire winning pool in the end will be TAXED. Lets just give it a nice round number of 20%, which we all know the taxes will equate much much higher. The money that was taxed will not be put back into poker via, other tournaments or cash games, unless the IRS and TREASURY decide to sit down and play some cards. So from the time Moneymaker won the championship, everybody kept dumping their money into these tournament games not realizing POKER'S COMMUNITY OF CASH was being taken out of the game. This in the end really destroyed poker.
    Im sure a lot wouldn't have thought of such things. Before the Tournaments were a big thing, think about how packed the cash games in poker rooms were.
