The “dark secret” story sounds implausible to me. If Hugh was not a willing participant in the untoward behavior, why would he tolerate it from BK, at all?
The book can accuse but unless there is proof, shut up and don’t destroy good memories. Bob never did anything bad in front of any kids or the camera for 34 years of the show as far as we know or can prove.
There's always somebody that wants to tarnish someone's name, Mr. Green Jeans could of went to the head of the studio if this were true...Lies, it's all lies...
You never raised the possibility that Hugh could have been lying. I'm not saying Bob wasn't guilty...but did he ever admit to this behavior? Was there any proof? I met Keeshan, once, in the late 80's. He was very kind...and he didn't flash me.
Right, this story assumes that story told by Hugh is true. For some reason, this story is presented as if it's an absolute cold fact. My family and I regularly vacation in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. Hugh owned a home and lived in the area of the Shawnee Inn and Resort. We have gone on a few guided tours, and anytime they point out his house, all they will say is that by reputation, he was not a very nice guy. So, you choose who to believe.
I grew up (?) in the 1950's and the "Captain" was there along with: Howdy Doody, Boom Town, Mello Tunes, Big Brother, Bob Emrey, etc.... Also, "Warning! If you see a Big, Bright Flash, Take Cover Immediately." Watched Pinky Lee go down on live TV. Before they had the "Three Second Pause" (?). Remember Ding Dong School? Those were the Days. Thanks.
Hoagers, wow, who peed in your Corn Flakes? This person was a fan of the show as a small child and expressing their love for the shows they grew up with. What could be possibly wrong with that? Attacking someone for a positive comment, reminds me of a famous gop person. If you got out and received some fresh air and sunshine on occasion, it would help your outlook on life. Good luck. Have a nice day.
Everyone seems to forget that these two were two Marines/war-veterans. After everything they’ve seen (as Marines) this was probably crude horse-play. It didn’t involve anyone else & didn’t have anything to do with the children or show. This sounds like a hit-piece.
It was a great show. He was a great, gentle, ans kind man who had a positive and endearing influence on entire generations. Glad I was a kid when I was with shows like this. I cant say that adult humor off set, even with children's shows, doesn't go on, and much worse today. You also have to consider the times 60's-70's. People were VERY different than today. Things weren't taken so seriously and men were king and got away with all kinds of things. Its not for me to judge with today's cancel culture phase. I still love the man. He was a Dad and Grampa to a love of kids that didnt have one and had a great show. Children's shows today are terrible! If that's the worst he did, wow. It doesnt take away from what he did and gave to us. I am 53. I was born when they were setting up the stages for Wooodstock. I was raised thru the 70's and a teen in the 80's. We were the last of the best of times for kids. I know, because I am also a Mom of 3. I think my childhood was AWESOME. I wish kids today were so lucky. 🧡🙏
The 80's? Captain Kangaroo ended in the mid 60's. Keeshan tried to keep the concept going by rolling into another children's program, called "The Town Clown". I loved watching the program, when I was a child in the 50's. I don't know if I would believe the "flashing" thing without more corroboration. One thing your video didn't bring out was that Bob Keeshan was in the Marines, in WW2. Lee Marvin was on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson". They were talking about Marvin's being on Iwo Jima for that famous battle. Lee Marvin (also a Marine) said that Bob Keeshan was his platoon sergeant and "was the bravest man he'd ever known". One thing that the Capt. Kangaroo show was known for was that they wouldn't hire anyone who didn't love children.
@@moriahfeatherrae8265 You're welcome. I was also shocked when I heard Lee Marvin say this about Keeshan on national TV. All we ever saw from Capt. Kangaroo was his gentle nature. It's hard to imagine him as a Marine NCO.

As a parent Idgaf what the people entertaining my child do behind the scenes. They’re human too. If you’re going to judge someone on the worst thing they ever did than I shouldn’t be a mom then because I did illegal things before I had my daughter. The only thing that matters is that they put on a good show that teaches the children something valuable or makes them smile. This is the same thing they tried to do to Pee Wee, make him look like a huge weirdo for doing something human. Do your own research. Everything is out there, including the court documents about him being accused and found guilty of child molestation. I loved this show as a child, but when so many children come forward and accuse one person of molestation, you kinda have to listen, regardless what good memories the person gave you. Keep in mind all of the priests and pervert uncles and grand-dads from that time that no one knew were pedos and all of the parents that helped to cover those secrets up. As for keeping his legacy for the children of that era, we have all grown up and are capable of getting passed it. He was found guilty and sentenced to more than 60 years in prison back in 1998. Lucky for him he was already old and would soon die in 2004.
