I was at this show - just stumbled onto it here quasi-randomly (I was grooving to Funky Kingston a link away) - they opened for Santana, if I remember correctly. They stone rocked the house, as is made clear in the recording. All these years later, I've always carried the visual memory of the long curly cords of the guitarist and bassist swaying in unison back to their amps - even the gear was dancing - and I've always carried Toots in my heart with affection.
Boy I'd been listening to Toots and The Maytals since buying my Jimmy Cliff-Harder They Come in the Mid 80s. Jimmy obviously recognized how great these guys are-totally underrated on the American Reggae Fan Scene since then. I love Pressure Drop and Sweet and Dandy as soon as I heard them, but never did see these Greats perform until stumbling upon great uploads like this. WOW! What a Performer, with a Voice and stage presence I've never seen-Toots's interplay and involvement of the audience is second to none. What a privilege to enjoy this. The music just flooooooows forth and fills me with Life!!!! I'm late to the party, but happy to have made it.
I saw toots and the maytails live at the Brixton academy in 1984 with Jimmy cliff and Joe higgs as the support band. Very good gig and a great night out. I when with my brother phill and girlfriends. One of the best reggae gigs I when too. Nice one one love
Bless Bill Graham the promoter for booking &Filming The blessed event.. it's originally from Wolfgang's vault.. Wolfgang was ,"bills" real name.. thanks Bill😛
this man can give a concert i know this one is from the sixties but they had some crazy energy back then. what the heck were they eating i would love to know lol
3 years and 10 days later the Band performed at this same venue. The Last Waltz. If I had a time machine, that is the moment in history I would go back to. Signing of the Declaration? Crucifixion? whatever, I want to see the Band's last gig, but really, that would just be a great era to live in the Winterland Ballroom.
memeexclusive He still is!. I saw him in Edmonton at a folk fest about 10 years ago and he played in a hotel conference room from about midnight to 4am after the show. It would have been amazing endurance for anyone. Sweat dripping off his face the whole time. And he's still doing shows.
and the crowd is just standing there, what! ...this is pure spiritual music for all people more effective then Mr. Marley in which takes no credit from him, but come on people: if I was there I would be jumping-up-down like I was in church. lol
That is my dad on drums. I am very proud of that old man!
that's awesome. Your dad is probably a cool cat.
Quinn Winters Yeah he is.
Dude that's just simply awesome!!
That's so great. Nothing makes me smile like Toots and the Maytals. Peace.

What a wonderful perfection
at 18 min those are some funky dance moves
Thankfully, two years later, The Specials came along and the world was spared from disco breaks in reggae.
They were missing Winston Wright.
Damn for 40 some years I'd mistaken Toots for just a reggae singer, shiiiiiiit Toots was a soul singer if ever there was.

Flop marley?
I believe no one can dance and sing like that on reggae music
