I love how the first half of this video is listing the bare minimum features like coming with a cable to plug it into a wall socket and an audio jack so you can plug in any kind of dumb device. Most devices now don't even bother with any of this.
I have an alarm clock that's probably 5 years old now with similar features like keeping time after power out, a line in and multiple alarms with weekday awareness. It's also toggle-able between 24-hour and 12-hour time, I could go on. It's survived multiple moves and the only sign of wear is the buttons become unresponsive if it's not touched for several months. The plastic housing is thick enough that it feels like a brick and it has survived countless falls off my bedside table onto hard floors with no cracks. It also has a visually interesting shape with some curves and a stylized speaker grill. It's going to last me a lifetime and this is saying a lot - It's very comfortable to use, I feel fortunate to have it in my life so long. Unfortunately, I've delegated my alarms to my mobile phone because of random personal idiosyncracies, so for the time being, it's my reliable wall clock on a shelf.
I wish more digital devices were built like this - there is no excuse anymore for this fully matured class of digital device to be unreliable, fragile or uncomfortable to use, I need more reliable technology like this in my life! Thanks for showing this product

This thing is an absolute lifesaver, I just this morning had a power outage and nothing was on, not even the lights but my alarm beeper went off??? It turns out if you have the backup battery installed it will beep the buzzer at the right time even though it looks to be dead
Still got me up for work and on time for my bus, fucking brilliant

The delay you get when you use a newer speaker, like for example the mentioned UE Boom 2 comes from them doing DSP based EQ inside, they usually digitize the signal, feed it into a couple filters to compensate for either the speakers resonance or it's lackluster low frequency response (can't easily beat physics with small drivers :P)

I recently took a yard sale Panasonic crt, hooked it up to a vhs player, hooked that up to an amp, and hooked that up to speakers from an old boombox adapted to have an rca connection. It’s great for NES Tetris and other retro games, but I’ve recently fallen in love with using the TH-cam app on my ps3 and casting from my iPad as a way to enjoy music and such. Anywho, nice video, very cool.

I had one of these. Probably still do somewhere. My biggest issue with it is that the screen, even on the lowest brightness, is WAY too bright for an alarm clock. Like you could probably read a book off it if you let your eyes adjust first. There is a reason you turn the lights off when you are going to bed.

i had the same alarm clock from when i was born to 2009 when i started using my phone as an alarm the clock it was way older than me it was from the 80s it had bright green numbers that looked like they were radioactive and were so bright i didn't even have to turn on the lights it was supposed to play the radio when the alarm goes off but it usually just played both a horrible buzzing sound and static .when i got a cell phone it would also start making weird sounds when i got a text massage or call but it would start a few seconds before my phone started beeping so i knew i would have an incoming message .how handy that they had this feature 10 years before the first sms and 20 years before it was mainstream i think it was the best one ever

10:25 Most bluetooth speakers do DSP (digital signal processing) to increase bass (or fake it) and tune the drivers, and most likely the audio input gets routed to the bluetooth SOC with an ADC with I2S support first, not directly connected to the speaker amplifier.

I wonder if after a full calendar year, it would slowly creep faster until it was 15 minutes ahead and then mysteriously stop like the current Sony alarm clock I have.

Sony still sells phones with audio jacks so technically it still works with modern high end phones

I have an ICF-CS10iP which has an iPod dock, no CD player, but it has aux in. Also has a radio and stereo sound, and you can dim the brightness of the screen to where it doesn't blind you when you're trying to sleep. By far the best clock I've ever owned!

I have a black sony cube clock that glows orange, but it's just AM and FM, plus it requires a 9V backup battery instead of a button cell. I have a radio station that I like enough that I don't care enough about other audio inputs when I am going to sleep or waking up. When I am up, I just use a different device. My favourite feature is the sleep mode, where it plays radio for 30, 60, or 90 minutes and then shuts off automatically.

I have a Dream Machine from 2012 with no CD player, but the iPod dock uses a Lightning connector instead of 30-pin and it still works with my iPhone to this very day. Fall asleep to podcasts using the sleep timer and wake up to the radio using the alarm. And it charges your phone overnight 😎
