These were at the very least really intriguing and unusual screenplays--ones too wild or challenging for Hollywood. The end credit director reveal is fun when you go into a movie blind and it has you wondering "what the hell is even that" and then you see the director credit and it's like a missing puzzle piece clicking into place. I've had this experience with M Night Shymalan and Luc Besson a couple times each.
