The general focus these days is on annual vaccines or short term drugs that reduce symptoms. It seems an immediate revenue stream is far more important a business model than a long term, far more beneficial solution like gene therapy.

Please think about this for future preparation. It will make a world of difference.
Why do we have an epidemic? Lets forget medicines. Why can we not contain today when we easily could have contained this in any one area of the world in the 1950's with little loss of life. This is with no medicines to cure we could do this.
It is one simple fact. Local economies. A local store had your account. He bought from local farmers. The economy could all be shut down in a five mile radius with the food supply uninterrupted.
Food and other supplies were all bought from local farmers that would now be within the containment area. People would drop food off in your driveway if you were sick, and most people had a well, and an outhouse. There, food , water, and sanitation all at home uninterrupted. This is how we could contain.
Not today. Making large centralized corporations, and the centralization of water, food, and medicine has killed a lot of people. Why, well its because transportation of goods must continue, making contain a joke.
Remember when this is over, if any store is local and buys local for its shelves, keeping it open by purchasing there goods regularly, could be the difference between life and death.
Keeping small ma and pa stores open instead of shopping at large chains, is a real defense against any epidemic, because it will ensure a continued readily available food supply, inside any quarantine area.
