this one still better, because the culprit have an equal position and strong murder sense even they dare to challange the detective to uncover the trick whereas in case closed, every culprit tends to hide under the hood to keep the suspicion off. i am not good at putting it into words but let me just give you an illustration.. Kindaichi vs culprit -> they both neck on neck if it's race or kindaichi gives punch and the culprit will punch back meanwhile Conan vs Culprit -> Conan gives some punch and the culprit only just evade but never give reaction by hit back for him.
Until now i have almost all translate 1 - 138 .. full episode 144.. Best detective anime.. And now with kindaichi 37 years old its best if they put those in anime..
I watch this when I was 8 and I was so scared that I can't even sleep. But now turn 16 and it was awesome to see back and not scared anymore... But still a bit....
I've only started reading the Kindaichi manga this year, however it has already become one of my favorite series! Even though I didn't watch it during my childhood like many people in the comments, the 90s graphics make me very nostalgic! I grew up with Detective Conan, so maybe I'm reminded of the first seasons that were drawn in a similar style. I enjoy the darker atmosphere, I think it's a very fun (and creepy!) show.

While Kindaichi's pattern is that 7-8 people are trapped in an secluded place with a killer on the loose, so there are 5-6 suspects, and everytime the case is different. But I would say that the main story line of DC is very good, and Kaito Kid is like the best rival. Kindaichi's main story line hasn't even begun, the 13 spiders (something like that) were introduce recently in 37 year old kindaichi.

It's not that it's extremely dangerous, but some scenes are definitely scary , sometimes even blood curdling and between cases, there are sexual contact made (VERY VERY RARE) so of course I would have also freaked out if I were younger. 😨😨😨Moreover, I used to watch it at night around 12am as I wouldn't get free time at 14 years of age. 😐😐😐
I also read Kindaichi when i was 7 years old. Some cases can get me traumatized and get me a little too deep in the case for days. Even this song is really fitting for detective story. It can get a bit nostalgic, creepy, and haunting
Ironic that back in the 90s, everyone were saying that Detective Conan sucks in comparison to Kindaichi due to lack of interesting killers and motives, inferior and less art style as well as maturity of characters. Everyone expect Kindaichi to KILL Detective Conan and put them out of the board completely. But look at today....
One thing Conan win bcs it has thousands episodes, but the case is mediocre in comparison of Kindaichi. The murder motive somehow kinda shallow & predictable. And one thing which is not make sense how the hell Kogoro Morie still okay after being tranqulize for thousand times, and as detective why he don't feel suspicious at all for solving case while sleeping.

Too high into the top in fact that while the case is interesting, it's felt too out of this world that no one can relate to the murderer at all. Kindaichi's murderer are always some kind of high class specialist of some sorts. While Detective Conan murderer are ordinary people like us, simple folks that become too angry and lost themselves in the emotion. Even better, Detective Conan crimes are expertly crafted and very detailed to the point that you could even solves it before Conan does even. Even the simple one. The fact that Detective Conan stills manage to be relavant until today despite its age, not to mention that even with the remakes of Kindaichi, proves how successful Conan's simple formula is to the audience.

Conam doesn't have that level of mystery but sometimes it does because it is closer to reality. In real life, people do kill for dumb reasons. Conan is better as it is more realistic than Kindaichi.

@@cuetzen712 u are right but when u say about the popularity and the profit the difference between both are quite huge Kendaichi manga sold over 60 million while in it's peek in 90s anime was ok detective Conan manga sold over 250 million while anime anime always top rating plus every year movie become super hit. The difference in profit and popularity is quite big
