  • Made up a set of adjustable log tongs to move some logs around and onto a trailer. Could have went out and bought a set, but where's the fun in that?
If necessity is the mother of invention, then cheapness must be the one paying child support...

Nice, I use a tong for this, and tie a rope to one leg so I can control/release tongs from tractor seat.

Great "scrounger" DIY fab, will copy depending on what I find in scrap heap(S):)

Right on, those log tongs have gotten a lot of use and are still going strong.

Im building a set of tongs atm. Im making mine without chain n using 2 bars up top to keep even. Im toying with a heavy duty pto cable and spring to open. But like the build. Seems very stout

Cool, sounds like it should work well. I've used my tongs quite a few times since I made them, so far still going strong. Had to open them up a bolt hole once for a big stump, tractor was running out front weight, haha.

Some lousy craftsmanship there, but fully functional. Just the way I'd do it! Crappy looking but works great!! Nice going!

I need something like that here. Any chance you could make me a set?

Wish I had the time to get into production, but unfortunately not. There's a few styles available commercially, I'm just a cheap bastard, haha.

Probably didn't need the pipe over that bar. It's probably real strong.

I like over building things sometimes, have used those tong to move some pretty big logs!

@@toocheaptosmoke I have a touch of overbuild myself. It's gonna take a bunch to bend that bar all by itself.
      Good show

So you take car parts you say handle 2 ton loads and "beef" them up to lift a 1 ton log?? You might have been too many beers in when you were over thinking this.
But what the heck. You had a good reason to hang in the shop and drink beer so maybe you should've beefed it up more 😀

It's all about leverage, those car parts were never intended to be used that way, haha.

    Diminishing returns...
I love making things from scrap. But I build things that are hard to find, expensive to buy or the ones sold are garbage. Stuff like this is a waste of time.
