Mendelssohn was a great admirer of Thalberg, and it is noted that Felix heard him play this particular piece. He was very intrigued by the novelty effect of the Chromatic Octaves towards the end of the piece and spent at least half an hour replicating the passage the following day. More on this anecdote can be read online by Charles Horsley, a musician who had dinner together with Thalberg and Mendelssohn sitting on the same table.
@@Chorizo727 Yes, Thalberg Hertz .... was admired, but later on they suffered from being overrated in youth (king Liszt took over - he has bad manners but great music soul).
Wow, he really transformed the source material in to a piano masterpiece on this one. I'm in love. And omg the passage at 6:30 perfectly captures that beautiful blend of lost, melancholy & wistful that the likes of Chopin, Benoît Jutras and Danny Elfman (and his orchestrator) all do so well.
Œuvre splendide et virtuose d’une pièce lyrique très connue magnifiquement transcrite pour le piano par Thalberg et ressuscitée par F Nicolosi ! On est proche du divin .
Thank you for uploading a score video of this great paraphrase!
Yes!! Great seeing this excellent Thalberg piece on here. :)
Great seeing Andrei here!XD
Indeed
Wonderful piece!
Замечательная основа Беллини ❤❤❤
Suena a Liszt
Adorably bad.
In Leipzig they loved it, including Robert and Clara Schumann.

Non mi fanno impazzire le trascrizioni di thalber
6:07 this part sounds like an opera singer and pizzicato strings to me.
I have listened to this about 20 times now. It must be one of my favourite pieces. The writing for piano is amazing.

🎼🎹❤️💐
Didn't LIszt say of Thalberg "I wish I had his velvet paws"? He must have been a great pianist.
That was about Henselt, an influence on Rachmaninoff. Of Thalberg Liszt said that he could "play the violin on the piano".
@@marcorval Thanks - still a great compliment.
@@charityshopguitar8790 it also shows how Liszt respected his rivals and acknowledged their strengths.
@@marcorval Liszt seems to have been a really great person as well as a great genius.
