10.- Interpretation.- your own voice, your own expression.
11.- Knowing Music History ( Styles, instruments, etc).

      Very good! And what about:
      23. Enhancing Fingering Speed
I personally find it challenging to play fast passages and achieve equal speed with my ring finger and pinkie. It's no simple feat to get them up to par with the rest.

Having a sense of rhythm can also aid in everyone's piano playing

Robert -such great guidance - totally agree about playing for others. We practice and play for 100's of hours - to play for others is such a huge step - intimidating the first few times, and then liberating and motivating.

Last week went to a Christmas gathering. Half the people there are musical who play instruments or sang in a church choir. There was a piano in the room. I played a version of "Have Yourself a Merry Christmas" that my teacher got for her students.
A few decades ago when the Apple iPod came out, "downloading" music became popular. People are keen on squeezing 1000 songs into a portable device they can listen to all day.
Today there are people like myself who are eager to "upload" music. People would record pieces using a phone, camera or another recording device and share their playing with others. Last week came across a video of a young man (around age 10) playing a beginner piece out of Faber-1 book. Probably his first recital, first time in front of an audience of parents. His performance video is online. 2 years ago many places had COVID lockdowns people would make homemade recordings and share them on social media. You can't always get people in the same room to listen to a performance but you can share your recordings.

I love playing the piano and learning new songs. I use chords and learn melodies by ear.

Yes, obviously his perspective is a very abstract, Eurocentric perspective.. He didn't mention rhythm, how to play scales in a musical way, how voice lead your progressions, playing by ear as you mentioned.

The first item on this list was really helpful for me. I have been trying to learn to play pieces while reading from the music and it wasn't much fun so I didn't practice much or learn pieces well. But memorizing them makes it a lot more enjoyable. I used to play the guitar and I didn't understand why I enjoyed that but I wasn't enjoying playing the piano and now I realize the reason is when I played the guitar for fun I wasn't reading music. So thanks for this video I think it has made a big difference for me.

Excellent video (and a great advertisement for the channel 😊).
On memorization: I'm in a choir where we memorize everything we sing, about an hour and a half of music every year. It's a lot of work but it makes a big difference because we can pay more attention to the choirmistress and to each other. The piano equivalent is simply that you can listen to your own playing better.
On playing for other people: this is all true. But "other people" can be yourself - you can record your playing (preferably in video) and play it back. You may well discover things about your playing - they may be bad things, but it's bettern to know about them - that you never noticed while you were busy reading and moving your fingers... Of course a teacher will help you in the same way, but not everyone has a teacher available.

Learn the main scales and arpeggios first ie a flat, a, b flat b major etc then a minors etc. Then learn easier pieces with one or two more challenging and the fingers and wrists etc will fall into place naturally as will reading by sight and memorisation.

How much time should you devote to new material versus your existing repertoire? The more songs I learn the less time I seem to have tackling new material. Should it be 50/50, or 70/30, or 90/10 in favor of existing material being practiced versus tackling new material? Many thanks!

I don’t think the link is working. It’s not going to any specific title as the link suggests. As for other essential skills, playing chromatically as in scales helps and maybe not essential but some pieces have you play on 3rds or 6ths as well.

That’s my main practice instrument that I destroy with the Liszt and other composers! It’s a losing battle, keeping my main practice instrument in tune. Fortunately, I have showrooms full of fine instruments that I play on a regular basis, as well!
