I feel this in my soul right now in Texas. We aren't literally on fire like other states but this year has not been nice and it's not over by a long shot.
I love Matt's ability to turn these adults into little kids screaming "NOOOOO!!" just before the break, because they were so engaged with the story. I forget that they are just as much an audience member as we are sometimes.
The secret is that Matt is an audience member too. He genuinely has no idea what the characters are going to try, let alone succeed at, and hence, he doesn't know where shit's going either.
He is one of the greatest storytellers of our time. I’m so grateful for technology, and that I’m able to watch him and see the magic he weaves as a DM.
Didn't she roll real well the other time she was charmed, too? during the fight with the two succubi and the larger demon under that well that got beau her gauntlets?
Even worse she fell into the mental trap many of them have in the past where they're happy they rolled high in a situation where they forget or don't realize they want to roll low.
@@doctorbath-o7 I could be wrong, I often am, but i think the reason Ashley and Laura responded the way they did was due to the way Liam voiced it. He came off as a boss or parent scolding children for not paying due attention to the situation..lol.
@@risksandhope1849 Shouldn't be too hard to balance, there's plenty of anti-fear stuff that takes a round to put in effect - you could essentially treat chocolate as a rarity in the campaign, and mechanically use it like you would potions
Caleb: I'm nervous to come close to this thing, but are there writings on the stone slab? Matt: You know Celestial language, right? Caleb: I do. Matt: There are huge letters scrolling across the sarcophagus: " *FCKIN DON'T* "
'Look Archchancellor,' said the Dean, 'this door was nailed shut with planks across it, hidden behind a bookcase for years, and has a sign on it saying 'DO NOT OPEN UNDER ANY CIRCUMTANCES, THIS IS IMPORTANT!' So why do you want it to be opened so badly? Archancellor Ridcully looked at the Dean and the other wizards, and then back to the sealed door. 'To see what all the fuss was about that they wanted it closed so badly'. he stated. He nodded to the dwarf handyman standing by with a crowbar. 'To work Mr Modo, open the door.' This exchange from the Discworld book 'Hogfather' tells you all you need to know about human nature.
RPG parties man, the DM can throw an angel at them saying "the thing down here cannot be killed, only sealed, and oh you're in the last defence room right? Hear me out: stop, don't continue" and they will continue because "we're basically gods". I mean, the spell says that the creature must be a in state where it can speak, the skull had no muscles nor lips, he made a stretch with Cad's magic to give them the warning that they're doing a mistake and they responded "nah I'd win".
Because we all know Liam loves to get back at people in weird ways. Either one shots or in the pranks as vax. This? Oh there is a sadistic glee to be had.
We all laugh now, but what if it was one of its weakness? It really is a shame Nott didn't keep stole all the canes she found... Any of them could have been "The One." (That is all flavor wise, obviously mechanics wise it was basically an excuse for him to buff Bo.)

That. But also the tomb was there from the beginning, and they were inevitably going to release the evil that laid within... this episode had my heart racing the WHOLE FUCKING TIME
At 3:46:03 when Taliesin passes over Ashley for bless, and she gives Matt the sad face, and he gives her an acknowledging wink, thats about the time my heart broke.
I don't get the jail thing. They tried to stop Obann, they just failed. Their only crime is sucking at combat. Had they not gone, or not even found out anything about this, Obann would still have done what he did. It did suck that they didn't talk to him more when they had the chance before combat though. They could have told him why they were pursuing him and he might have told them something about his connection to the Empire or the purpose of the rifts.
The heart breaking moments everyone is talking about.... (mostly) 3:05:09 Nott giving Yasha a flower 3:25:06 fjord, "Why?" 3:25:31 Yasha (response to fjord), "I heard you." 3:43:40 Jester, "YASHA!!!" *The rest should be marked by Flando whom is pinned because they're a saint ☺*
@@JaxonBurn the funniest thing is he had to create a undying creature just so that he can be a villain in the Mighty Nein story. Just in case they do end up bringing the creature down to 0HP and he also had to create multiple encounters just to make sure the players burn their spell slots and have limited options for final encounters, as well as having creatures at flying abilities just so not everyone especially the monk from reaching them. He also gives them dimension door, teleport...etc Its just ways to ensure the story has a reason to keep going. Obann wasn't even suppose to die, I will bet he was suppose to awaken Yasha, then dimension door out, but because they killed him, Matt made the encounter a bit harder with the constant attacks, which in turn made it way more interesting. He was flying, he didn't even really made any attacks that much.

Three years late, but that's exactly what I did today. Came back from a horrible day at school to unwind and finish the episode after stopping halfway last night. Then this happened. I think I need to take a break lmao
What i love about Taliesin is how much he himself seems to change for his character. I dont remember him ever getting this flustered as molly. He was always so confident. Now as cadeuces he tends to hesitate a lot and question his choices.
Jonathan Frederick nothing against Molly but I love Tals playing of Cad way more. It feels bad because I kinda liked molly but was glad he was gone the moment Cad came into the picture. Tal plays him so well.
Can we please go back to when Yasha just heard thunder and was like: "UHHHH gotta go guys the stormlord is calling me" to shoot her TV show? This was so emotionally draining and I am sobbing over here. Jester's reaction and the fucking flower ARGH fuck me. Damn all of you for getting me so emotionally attached to these characters. Guy already lost one character on stream. I can't imagine how red my face would go if I fumbled a beloved fan favorite character in front of a crowded Twitch audience. And if it already happened to me once, I would be extremely careful with my next fan favorite character.
I honestly would've loved if Jester used Sending to contact Essek or the bright queen like "Out of depth, send help asap, tomb below Bazzoxan. Teleport if possible. Fiend reawakening dark god, really bad."
The message would have been more like, "Omaigod omaigod! We followed this guy into this tyoomb thingy with these Angels crying icky blood and now Yasha is attacking us and we need--!
Exactly what I was thinking the whole time haha, help *probably* wouldn't have come in time, but definitely would have been a good move to make if anyone had sending prepared
Same... It's the exact thing I was doing. Worst part was knowing I was hurting my loved ones, and not wanting to hurt them, yet still doing it. People think we have ultimate control over ourselves, but we don't. The first step for me was admitting I don’t have control over it, and relinquishing some control to my family, so I could get help. Keep it up, buddy! It's a tough road.
I’m sorta glad that when Nott was drunk and morphed into Veth upon seeing Luke, Luke didn’t make a comment like “mom you smell like beer”. Nothing is more heartbreaking than a child trying to cope with a parents alchohism.
As a DM, let me explain why: Because it's so pure and fun. When players engage with one another and help shape the story, you as the DM feel this little giddy feeling a bit like a fan-girl squeal. It's just so nice.
Can we all take a moment to appreciate liams gorilla breath when he saves caduses that was some serious voice actor perfection. These guys are so talented!!!
Meanwhile at a brothel in Tal’Dorei Grog chilling as there’s a loud crack and the door bursts open and an avatar of the Stormlord bursts into the room: WAKE UP YOU BIG HIMBO!!!! We gotta go save your adopted sister. COME ON!!!!
this would be amazing to see and great to have grog back even for 1 ep although after that search for grog 1 shot, i dont think that there is much that could stop grog short of the deck again

Honestly that applies to every episode and if you read the comments before watching any episode. You have no right to complain about spoilers. The comments section here exists largely for that exact reason. To discuss the crazy shit that happened
It seems logical that comments on a show would be about the show. I don't get why anyone would read comments before the show. It can't hurt to warn people anyway I guess.

He also cheated with no concentration checks. The laughing dude hit his ape form like what? 3 times?
Meanwhile at a brothel in Tal’Dorei
Grog chilling as there’s a loud crack and the door bursts open and an avatar of the Stormlord bursts into the room: WAKE UP YOU BIG HIMBO!!!! We gotta go save your adopted sister. COME ON!!!!
this would be amazing to see and great to have grog back even for 1 ep
although after that search for grog 1 shot, i dont think that there is much that could stop grog short of the deck again
He’s being a pirate with Pike. The closest they came to meeting any of VM was during Fjord’s arc
I mean eventually the world is gonna open up with caleb having teleportation circles. We'll probably see a few familiar characters that are really old and wizened in like a year or 2 IRL time
@@mycenaeangal9312 Most of VM will be around 45-50. Scanlan will be in his early 90s.
Also I take it back, the closest they came across to meeting someone from VM was in and around Zadash. Tary continued his adventures after C1 in the central part of the Empire.
also keyleth was an elf in her 20s so she will be there somewhere still
Rewatching this and Laura screaming "Yasha!" gets me EVERY TIME
There's really amazing fan art of that moment that they show one one of the breaks of the following episodes, broke my heart. 10/10
Almost as bad as "Fix him!" From C1 :(
She should have had advantage on her attempt to hit her with the whip too. Yasha recklessly attacked beau the turn prior.
@@Rannek19 i scrolled all this way just to find this comment
There is an animated video of that scene: Critical Role Animatic - C2 E69 "The Betrayal"
I've watched it like 10 times it's so sad
Can we all just give Matt a round of applause for how he deals with an actors busy life sometimes and just weaves their schedules into his story.
When Laura said “just ride and cry” I almost teared up myself picturing jester just on the moor bounder crying
As the Laughing Hand begins it's turn 1:58:22
Laura: He's made of cheese. (People chuckle, Liam looks concerned)
Liam: Guy's this is a fight characters die in.
AJ: Oh we know...
You couldn't write a better foreshadow into a screenplay than that interchange. It summed up the rest of the night, events, and mood change.
Red demon guy: You killed people for us
Yasha: I don’t even know who you are
Obana: Oh, you will soon~
2:47:50
Matt: " You've killed fiends in previous campaigns"
Sam: "But not in this campaign tho"
MAY I ASK WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING THESE PAST 3 MONTHS???
Literally THREE different encounters before this one
She was hella drunk during those times it's Nott.
I think Obann actually died - the others they “killed” were simply returned to “hell.”
No they also turned to sludge. But maybe they forgot because hes more like a Person?
Wasn't the first ever boss a fiend, all the way back in Torstenwald?
Awww, Liam going “duck duck duck goose” when he gets back to the table at 3:15:07 is so precious haha.
Chevie Oh my heart, I couldn’t hear him the first time around. ;4;
When Jester and Nott reaches out and calls out...jeez...Laura actually started to cry XD (me too ;w;)
same
this was a truly cruel episode.
I was at work when Laura’s voice broke, calling out for Yasha, and my hesrt physically hurt from it.
Everytime Laura breaks out the screams of desperation it hits so hard
3:46:07 them running back acorss the bridge was AMAZING lmfao. First Matt asking Ashley for her save despite being not there, Nott running in the same direction and then "oohh self crits, those are rare"
If you haven't watched this episode yet, *DON'T READ THE COMMENTS!* This is a huge episode and the spoilers in the comments are much bigger than typical.
Upvote this so people won't be spoiled while skipping the break by going to Flando.
I've read like 2 comments and now I'm suuuper scared to watch... 😬😬😬
@@Desdemona-XI I prefer to be nice and warn people. Ain't no harm in being nice. :)
Poor Ashley as she watches in horror as Yasha cuts down her friends.
Just... how Laura screamed "YASHA!" made me just fucking break down and cry...
I'm so proud of Beau this episode, at the end when everyone else is freaking out and super hopeless, she's the one who reassures Caleb and Caduceus and reminds everyone why they went in and that Yasha makes her own decisions
except yasha didn't make any decisions, she was mind controlled and she wanted to go first to protect the rest of the group. beau is speaking from a place of hurt feelings not truth.
yasha’s being mind controlled, that’s the literal opposite of “making your own decisions” lol
@@transmatized Beau was saying that Yasha made the decision to go in knowing that it might be a trap. That was the decision she spoke of.
"Bla...burg...Bulgaria!"
The different names they gave the barlgura were hilarious.
I really wanted someone to come out with "Jarl Balgruuf"!
It's easy just say "ball girl" after taking an oversized bite of a French Dip sandwich.
“The creature is not willing” is one of my fav fav campaign moments. 😔😔😔
Episode 69
Me: YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THE CHOSEN ONE!!!
IT’S SAID 69 WOULD DESTROY THE FEELS, NOT JOIN THEM! BRING NICENESS TO THE SHOW, NOT LEAVE IT IN ANGST!!!
I can't like this comment because it's at 69.
we were rooting for you. we were all rooting for you
