I love that you mentioned discussing how they want to be styled during your consultation. I forget about that during my longer color services

How is a Marcel iron different than a traditional curling iron? I googled and dont see a difference.

It’s a pro-tool that allows for a lot more customization, but it’s unlike any other curling iron because of the position of the handle/how it flows with the wrist. As she mentioned though, they’re not easy. It has the clamp but also can be used as a wand, and it allows the stylist to have more control over every curl/overall look because it’s so flexible where the base meets the cord. The freedom of its style allows the stylist to work quicker and create a bigger variety of curls, switching back and forth from clamp to wand mode without having to change attachments.
I find it way too difficult to use on my own hair because the handle placement on the wand is far away from the handle and a bit tricky to whip around on my own hair, and really it needs two hands - which is limiting when doing your own hair if you’re also sectioning/testing temp/pulling curls down etc. Old school stylists like my Mom or people who prefer just one tool to declutter like it; it’s still a classic. It just really requires practice to get the hang of but some people swear by it and I love the curl smoothness and versatility it allows when someone else uses it on me, I just struggle to handle it on myself :) If you see a stylist using a Marcelle, you can generally trust that they’re interested in their craft at least... It’s a weird part of cosmetology lore that’s hard to explain lol but it’s been a staple forever
