  • Prelude - Ryan Rackley, Organist
Leader Christ himself bore our sins in his body on the tree - that
we might die to sin and live to righteousness. He entered
into the valley of the shadow of death where evil awaited in
savage glee. He submitted to the worst the powers of earth
and hell could hurl against him. He suffered in twisted
torture as he bore the weight of our sins; and yes, the
weight of your sins - and my sins.
Prayer Almighty God, your son was lifted high upon the cross so
that he might draw the whole world to himself. Grant that
we, who glory in his death for our salvation, may also glory
in his call to take up OUR cross and follow him - through
    Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
    Isiah 53:3-5
He was despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and
acquainted with grief: and we hid our faces from him; he was
despised and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our
griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we thought of him as being
punished and hurt by God and made to suffer. But he was
wounded for OUR wrongdoing, he was crushed for OUR sins.
He was punished so we would have peace. He was beaten so
    we would be healed.

    Psalm 22:1-44 - (1-2, 7-8, 14-15)
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so
far from helping me, and from the words I cry inside myself?
Oh my God, I cry in the daytime, but you do not hear me, and
in the night but find no rest. All who see me make fun of me.
“He trusts in the Lord. Let the Lord help him. Let the Lord take
him out of trouble because he is happy with him.” I am poured
out like water and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is
like a melted candle within me. My strength is dried up like a
piece of a broken clay pot. My tongue sticks to the roof of my
mouth. And you lay me in the dust of earth.
    John 19:16-ff
Then Pilate delivered him to be crucified. And they took Jesus
and led him away. And he, bearing his cross, went forth into a
place called “the place of the skull” which is called in Hebrew
Golgotha: There they crucified him and two others with him,
on either side with Jesus in the middle.
    Message: (Pastor Mike Brown)
    Prayer
On this night we pray for all in the world who know the
trauma of death’s ever-stalking presence. We pray for
those in grief whose loved ones have been lost and those
who might be and those who will. We pray for all who scoff
at this cross, this love, this sacrifice, because they haven’t
yet been touched by it, or because they don’t understand.
We pray for ourselves, who choose to stand at a distance,
afraid to enter into the mystery of love that will not let us
go. In this trembling hour of terror, grant us faith, in this
sad hour of dread, grant us hope. In our moments of doubt
and darkness help us to turn toward the light, even if it is
barely shining right now so that we can see.
The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy
name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is
in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the
kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
    *Benediction
May Jesus Crist, who for our sake, became obedient unto
death, even death on a cross, keep you and strengthen you
    now and forever. Amen
