Ok, Did I miss the Bravia 9 review or what?
It's coming. B9 hasn't been out for long in the UK and Sony released new firmware last week. So he's working on it but it takes time to do things right
@@444chromathe 75" version has been out for months. Many assumed Vincent hadn't reviewed it due to there not being a 65" version in the UK, which Sony has relented on. But yes, the new firmware has fixed the previous bugs they introduced from the firmware update before, so hopefully he'll be reviewing it soon.
@@444chroma He's had it for more than 3 weeks now, but yes it's the FW update he was waiting on. I'd bet the review is about 3 weeks out from now, or 1 month since the update (and close to 2 months since he received the 65" sample).
Just got posted a couple hours ago FYI
I am sorry I didn't really get any thing for my self to understand to choose the right TV for 85 inch display with great picture with great colors for streaming videos on TH-cam 2k 4k and 1080p upscaling videos ☹️
Yes, THE man is back :)! Why the long hiatus (hope nothing bad had caused it)?
Did we get the B9 review next 8-) !?
@PietroPizzi: Yes, the Sony BRAVIA 9 review is in progress.
You could probably answer than by noticing his red nose and stuffy sounding voice ;)
Still have the TCL 75" C835 from a prior recommendation here and I'm still blown away at how good it is for the price.. Even today I'd choose it for watching TV/movies over basically anything that's double what it cost me 1.5yrs ago, and over many OLEDs too
First time I've ever had proper local dimming and I am more than sold on it
Bravia 9's local dimming >>>>>>>>>>>> TCL C835's local dimming
@@vgnvideogameninja2930of course and you’re paying a premium for the Sony. Bang for buck the TCL isn’t a bad choice in fact it’s a great choice if you’re on a budget.
Hi, can you change aspect ratio on that tv? I hate the cinema aspect ratio on movies. Samsung does it. I AM wondering about Tlc
@@ishlothbrok8430You can crop the black bars but it deviates from the creator's intent.
Does this mean we might get a Bravia 9 review soon?
@ericroberts7380: Yes, it's in progress.
Reported officially by TCL. The TCL QM8/C855K is receiving an update at the end of the first week of december that will bring performance improvements in upscaling and EOTF tracking inline with the QM7.
Wonderful, any news about local dimming input latency?
@Callum-tm6xo I have no idea. I just read this on avs by some tcl spokesperson.
so no overbright dolby vision or hdr?
Keep in mind that the QM8 and C855K are NOT the same TV's due to Europe's energy usage restrictions!
Can some one help me understand tcl crazy model names! I am new to tcl and I’m so lost to all these different region names . I bought a t8b after seeing a TH-cam video on the model and looksee great to me, when I got it home turns out it was not the same t8b in the video😊 anyway I guess I want to get this model in the video now, can anyone please tell me wha the model name is for Romania or is it the same for all Europe ?
Are you going to review the TCL C805, wondering how this will compare to the C855 model?
worse , much worse
I firmly disagree with the principle of crushing black levels to achieve higher contrast.
When you have more than 2,000 zones I say let it bloom, I want every pin of light to be fully represented at source image brightness.
I firmly disagree, rather have mild black crush to achieve better contrast, than see even mild blooming and haloing.
Go back to the first 5 second of the video to see what is considered most important aspect of picture quality by professional calibrators.
@@KryssN1 yes but ordinary people buy TV's
You guys do know you don't have to have either con? like literally in between the two that matches what the hardware is capable of?
@@StevoHDA Here's the kicker, you cannot defeat black crush by calibrating the display.
When a Mini LED is crushing black levels it does so dynamically based on how much intensity is coming from any given area of the screen, if you try to raise brightness for dark content it blows out everything at normal brightness.
Totally agree we should have a toggle between "prioritize highlights" and "minimize haloing".
Is the C655 review coming?
I am no Vincent Teoh, but as an owner of the Bravia 9, there is not much today, if any Mini LED that can beat the Bravia 9.
Sure Samsung top tier TVs might boast more saturated color, but in terms of perfect balance of everything the Bravia 9 is a near perfection.
Hmm isn’t perfect with luminosity dropping low when black background present and isn’t perfect with angles - 30-40 degrees and you see color shift/loss. As all rounder perhaps is a mini led to beat. But some competition is getting very close and pricing is very enticing. With mini led I would consider bigger sizes that oled can’t provide - like 98”. Unfortunately Bravia 9 is not available at that size though
@@M1710 thought the B9 is having problem with this software glitches.
@@whitecrowuk575 This doesn't actually happen on an 85" Bravia 9. At least mine isn't after the most recent FW update.
@@amitavraja3385 It's not having these problems.
@@vgnvideogameninja2930 which part? Luminosity?
6:37 seems absurd. I can barely see anything on the TCL and the Sony is definitely closer to reference. Is the camera not picking up the image correctly? Cause I can't even see his legs moving all that well on the TCL
Wow! The Bravia 9 just looks like a Big Sony HX3110!
The HX3110 is visibly superior to the B9, but that's to be expected since it is a reference monitor which costs at least 10 times the price. The B9 does get very close, though.
Any review of Bravia 7 incoming?
So glad you made this video, I tried 5 diffrent 55 inch TV's for computer use (good ones, two from Samsung, TCL, LG, and HiSense.) Local dimming seems to cause more harm than good when I edit textures. The white point on all of them (except the oled) goes all over the place with the dimming, and creates shadows on large white objects. I'm a hobbiest so value plays a big part in picking a display. I have a 7 year old 50 inch Qled, and it's still "the right" display for my needs even without the vvr and local dimming. The s95c almost stayed in the house, but the HDMI issues, and then longevity on top of it made it a no go.
Are you going to review the tcl qm851g?
Thank you for this rare review of a non-US variant of TCL! 👏👍
This tcl c855k is from what country? And what version would it be for the US?
Thank you
Did you review c755?
Please also review the C755 and C655
Thank you for this review. I ordered this tv almost 2 weeks ago and it will arrive at the end of this month. It's good to know it was a good purchase. Can you share the best picture settings for this tv?
What about the Hisense U8NQ model. Will there be reviews?
Neutral sharpness on tcl tv is 0 ?
Please can you do a review/picture options overview for Hisense u8n/u8nq ?!
Will you review the X955?
Will Bravia 7 review come ?
it will be interesting if Vincent mentions the poor motion processing on the Bravia 9
Vincent, we need your help, C855 owners from europe are facing brightness limitations due to the EUs energy limitations, could you please check your C855 menu and provide us the Project ID? By copying the UK Project ID to our TVs we could work around the limitations. I bough the 85C855 after watching your review and after it arrived I was sadly disappointed to see that the peak brightness was limited to no more than 2200-2500nits and we are missing many settings in the picture menus.
Thanks in advance, I know you tested the 75" so your project ID could help those with the TV with the same size, if for any reason you came across different sizes, and could briefly check their project IDs in settings -> system -> about -> product information -> software -Project ID
We would greatly appreciate it
I honestly do not believe the input lag test is correct with the local dimming off vs on and is probably an artifact of the dimming zones trying to keep up with the blinking test box. I use the little brother of this TV the 50" C805 as a computer gaming monitor with HDR and game mode turned on always. I have dicked around with the local dimming setting and I detect no other change in the picture other than the changing contrast. If there is a change in actual processing of the image, an increased delay or such, the screen should blink black, just like turning game or pc mode on or off, before resuming but no such thing occurs when changing local dimming off to on. Or if the screen doesn't blink then there should at least be a slight hitch or microstutter as the speed of the arriving image resyncs between the slower and faster modes. It should be visually apparent in the famous Test UFO monitor. test.
It just occured to me that another test where a sudden change in lag should be apparent is the Blur Busters Frame Skipping test. In the moment of the local dimming setting change and suddenly going from bigger lag to smaller lag should result in frames being skipped IF there is actually any change in input lag and the screen doesn't just blink for resync. I have to give this a go when I get home from work.
A follow up, I did try the frame skipping test but unfortunately the TV has an annoying habbit of constantly warning you about energy efficiency with a popup, which makes the test impossible. I would need to switch the local dimming modes back and forth to see if any frames are skipped but because the popup comes every time you change the local dimming setting it makes it very hard to visually notice any potential changes. Damnit TCL, all other TVs that I have seen only show the warning once when finetuning some setting, we do not need to see it every time you change directions with the slider. 🤦♂️
Hi I own a c805 (a review would be appreciated, you are great :)) I noticed with the two latest firmwares v401 and V412 the problem you mentioned in the Xbox calibration at 900 nits (it stops at 850 for me) with the previous firmware, the V143 the calibration is correct, on ps5 it marks me 1500 nits first screen (18 clicks) second screen 1300 nits (17 clicks), while on Series X 1350 nits. I downgraded the firmware to be sure.
I would also like to know from you if you have encountered problems with specular lights in hdr by setting the local dimming to high.
I noticed that the high function tends to flatten (almost completely eliminate) the specular light, can you investigate this? thanks.
Can you tell me how is 720p and 1080p content?
I just bought a TCL 75C855 and a Samsung 75QN90D, had them side by side, and even though my Soundbar is a Q990D and I'd benefit from Q Symphony, I've decided to return the samsung, the local dimming around small objects on the TCL is far superior, but really the cherry on top is the worse panel in the Samsung, I come from a 65" QN90B and the color gamut on the 90B is better than the 90D. And man it does make a way BIGGER difference than I'd have ever thought, I could have lived with more blooming around small objects in exchange for Q Symphony, but the colors on the panel are just not up to the challenge.
When side by side, the TCL makes the samsung colors look washed out, it still looks great, but for the price I paid, I expected a straight up upgrade compared to my QN90B on every regard, only to find a downgraded picture. It looks like samsung is trying to ask for 8k display prices if we want their best picture. Specially since the QN95D is not readily available.
The price difference is even steeper when comparing the 85" models, and I'm even thinking of returning the TCL and getting an 85" that's just how much I liked the picture when the black level is properly dialed down.
Edit: Of course the B9 is better but it is completely outside of my budget, it costs like 2x what samsung is asking for the QN90D where I live.
Don't you think these manufacturers should simply implement a true 24 frame playback with very slow pixel response?? I think it leads to the most cinematic feel...I have an ultrawide monitor that I run at 24Hz...it's smoother than when I run it at 72hz. We just don't need 120Hz fast pixel response for movies, or do we?
Hisense and Tcl always nurf models in uk compared to usa models and charge us more for the privallige . They have been doing it for years no matter what they claim every year at launch . Same as last years tcl and hisence u7k
Fun fact, the tcl tvs are not the same at the USA models hence different model names. The c885k is in fact not nerfed in the uk, the European models outside however are
@@Callum-tm6xoits European C855 different from the UK version?
Great TV. If I didn't have an OLED this is the only Mini LED Tv I would consider. Price to Performance ratio is unbelievable.
What is the price, I havent heard yet😊
@@vickigonya9432£1500 it says in the description for a 75in TV is incredible value.
Currently 2187 AUD (1424 USD) here in Australia. An amazing price!
@@chucknorris8704 65inch c855 is only $1600 AUD, i bought it for my living room, since i got 77inch OLED in hometheatre
1:35 the TCL looks like a budget low end TV next to Bravia 9. The Bravia 9 is utterly superior to it. For a miniLED. The crushing and haze on the TCL is really bad. The level of shadow detail on the Bravia 9 and still suppressing a lot of blooming is pretty darn spectacular.
True. The Bravia is superior in every way, including price, which is why I won't be buying one.
Cope harder Sony Fanboy ^^
But still most people buy TCL nowadays.
" Utterly superior " lol dude you utterly exaggerate, side by side there's a noticeable difference that's all, nothing more nothing less.
@@KeiLin11 In my country a Bravia 7 costs just 100eur more compared to C855 in 65". I wouldn't even consider the TCL if the price difference is so small. Even LG B4 is cheaper than the C855.
I’m a bit disappointed we had a sneak peak at new Philips Oled but no review came out :(
TCL C855 vs Hisense U7NAU? Same price where I live.
Im deciding on buying a new TV this year for christmas. My original choice was to get the LG C4 OLED 55" for $1330, however came across the TCL C855 65" for only $1270!!! I have been leaning towards the TCL now due to the huge price difference for the size. A 65" C4 would put be back $2000 😂 Any thoughts?
If you're going to watch it mostly in dark room then go with OLED otherwise for bright rooms Mini LED wins.
You can watch the C4 in a bright room no problem.
I have an 85” qm851g. Struggling to decide if I can live with the inaccurate colors/hdr and soft processing.
What would you replace it with?
@@Jodez23probably the bravia 7 or if the hisense 98” ux comes down a bit more in price. I’m not paying over $3k unless its 98”+.
At that size I had to go with the Bravia 9 it’s very crisp
Why not go for a Samsung mini-LED? Is the lack of Dolby Vision a dealbreaker for you?
@@vikingsfan2218don’t like samsung unless its qdoled. Personal taste
Before test you need to unplug everything . And power cycle what you will use .
Due to price to performance ratio both Sony and LG loses market share to TCL.
The sunniest "UK" living room ? So still very dark ? Lol
Is there any way to STOP system update on TCL smart Tv?!
Pls answer
Thanks
Would also like to see a review of the more affordable c805
Thank you, for this review.
Hi Vincent, how is the off axis viewing with this tv?
Other people have reviewed the viewing angles, and they are absolutely terrible. They removed a viewing angle filter from the screen to give it less blooming, so it has worse viewing angles than a typical miniLED, which are already bad at viewing angles.
have one, it costs 2/3 of a Bravia 7 in Australia while competing with a Bravia 9.... best deal in TVs by a huge margin
So if game console hdr calibration screens clip early at 900 nits, does that mean that games using this calibration will not get as bright as they should? In other words: Should one ignore the clipping on the calibration screen and go higher?
@whosnick6506: No, going higher than 900 nits will just blow out bright highlight detail in HGiG-compliant games.
Input Lag for Local dimming in game mode deal breaker for me ...
Wow thats a steal at that price honestly
Is this much better than the c845 ?
Tldr when comparing against Samsung 's?
I don't know why we don't get these models in the US 😢
because you get the superior QM8
Could you recommend a calibrater I could use please ?
Can you do a video testing if a 8k tv can display 4096x2160 true 4k for console, computer or Panasonic 4k Blu-ray player? Thanks whether or not you do a video.
I got my mum to buy a C845 (last year’s mode) a couple of months ago and it’s fantastic for the price. My only problem with it is, to my keen eyes, the built-in apps are a stutter-fest. Would I get one? No I’ll stick with my LG CX. But for the average consumer it’s so much TV for the money.
My 4k LG TV is starting to get a dark zone in the middle area of the panel Its Only 6 years old and the second LG 4K TV i have bought in the last 10 years damn. i might need a new TV shortly. Thank You Mr Vincent You the man .😉👍
Great review! Many thanks. I have this tv as well, and its strengths really are the contrast and brightness. Its not quite so good with motion and accuracy, but i do enjoy the brightness. Interesting to hear about the panel uniformity.
Definitely good value. Though, i saw last years X95L for cheaper the other day and felt that would have been a good choice as well.
when did you replace your HX310 with 3110?
@davistaishi: We bought the HX3110 in January, but still have the HX310 sitting in a corner...

I bought this TV recently and i was pretty happy with the TV. I upgraded the living room tv which was a X85j sony which is now in bedroom and this 65 inch in living room.
Is it good compared to the X85J? I have the sony and I too am looking to get a C855.
I just bought my sister a C805 mini LED full array dimming, 85", for £1300. Comparing to my LG C3, I'm honestly so impressed with it, makes the extra money I spent seem daft
turn tennis on and see ball trail, or soccer, ghosting, c805 sucks at motion handling.
@@keewee23literally
I use C805 50" as a computer gaming monitor and yes, compared to the Panasonic OLED that I have in my living room I was also shocked how good the TCL looks. In some color and contrast combinations I can detect some overshooting trails if I turn 144hz mode on behind the moving mouse cursor but in 120hz mode no complaints about motion handling. Everything looks perfectly clear in motion. And regarding the input lag test that was done here I believe that is just a measurement artifact of the local dimming trying to keep up with the flashing test box. Because I detect no change between local dimming Medium and Off. If something were really changing in the processing the screen should flash black before resuming but no such thing occurs when I dick around with the local dimming options.

I bought the 75c855 for 1600 euros in The Netherlands. What a steal. Coming from a LG55B6. I see no difference. I really love this tv.
Is black crush a big of an issue as compared to OLED?
@r3tr4d Not something I noticed that much. And for a qled the blacks look really good. I do think the shadows on my oled look a bit better. But for this price i find this tv perfect.
I'm really enjoying my Bravia 9 85" .. I thought it would never happen due to owning 3 oleds for the upstairs rooms .
Same here, am loving my 85" Bravia 9. I also have other OLEDs in the house (three 77" A95Ls, three 83" LG G4s and three 77" Samsung S95Ds).
I just want a review of the Panasonic W95A
I would argue motion handling is the most important attribute of picture quality.
Nah lol
Amen brother
Nah. Eotf tracking, contrast, brightness, color accuracy, etc are all equally important
As I watch a lot of sports events This is the attribute I'm interested for my next TV .
Detail!
I have trouble understanding why contrast is measured this way in TVs. I feel like the word contrast is misused. If black is zero nits in OLED and it is done by dividing the brightest nit by zero and getting infinity then that means a screen with 1 (one) nit of brightness has the same contrast as a screen with 1,000,000 nits of brightness. But contrast should refer to the difference between two things (two numbers). In other words, high brightness mini-LEDs should be considered to have higher contrast than OLEDs (even MLA), even if their darkest black level is higher. The difference in number comparisons (contrast between darkness and light) is higher in the mini-LED.
If you had a LCD next to an OLED you’ll have no trouble understanding the difference in contrast between the two. Even how the measurements are done with patterns is misleading with LCDs. Hint, understand how local dimming works in practice.
This TV must sit somewhere between the QM7 and the QM8 in the US. The QM851 has 5000 zones while this only has 2000+.
I feel jealous of TCL in your country because they can give cheap prices. In my country, tcl positions him on a par with sony samsung and lg. Even Samsung and LG here are cheaper than TCL. Last month the Samsung S90C 65inch only sold for $1000 and a free Q700C soundbar, while TCL only got the C755.
Thank you for reviewing this TV. It's the one I plan to buy early next year.
Although not perfect, based on a combination of price and performance, it's more than good enough for my needs.
